[Bug 1852016] Re: Applications delayed on launch

2021-09-25 Thread Arno Teigseth
I saw the same behavior as Sebastian in linux mint 20.2.
Tried with apps "flameshot" and "obs-studio" - both behave

QT apps are stuck about 25 seconds. Strace exactly like Sebastian's:

connect(12, {sa_family=AF_UNIX, sun_path="/run/user/1000/bus"}, 110) = 0
… yada yada …
poll([{fd=14, events=POLLIN}], 1, 25000
… 25 second timeout …
(something in strace about … Timeout)

I was helped by (https://www.scivision.dev/disable-gnome-keyring-ssh-agent/)

Edit /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-ssh.desktop to include the line:

X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false

and restart. Not just logout, full restart.

Now all same apps start in 0 secs.

[Bug 1801629] Re: direct dependencies of ubiquity should not be autoremovable

2021-05-18 Thread Arno Teigseth
struck Linux mint 20.4 (focal, right?) - "just" lvm2 was removed though,
not cryptsetup.

I definitely did not remove lvm2 by hand but usually run autoremove.
Maybe I'll actually read the "these packages will be removed" next time
o_O

My setup was encrypted root, encrypted raid5 and none of those of course
mounted since lvm2 was no longer a thing. Easily fixed by liveUsb boot,
unlock+chroot and apt install lvm2

Not reproducible in Linux mint 17.3. Probably OK to close the bug. I see
strange behaviour with screenshots, but it is related to the Host

[Bug 1578589] [NEW] Add support for as inner authentication in PEAP

2016-05-05 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Networkmanager has no option for "none" as inner authentication.

MSCHAPv2, GTC and MD5 are the only options.

The page http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1726522 suggests
adding "none" as phase2-auth, but doing that syslog tells me the config
for that network is invalid.

However, this works fine with the wpa_supplicant config file
~/scowlan.conf:

ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=root
network={
 ssid="PS-XWLAN"
 key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
 eap=PEAP
 phase1="peaplabel=0"
 phase2="none"
 identity="USERNAME"
 password="PASSWORD"
}

and running it like this works fine:
wpa_supplicant -B -iwlan0 -c ~/scowlan.conf

I guess adding "none" as a recognizable option in networkmanager will do
(?)

[Bug 778195] Re: mozplugger/firefox does not open documents/apps within browser

2011-12-20 Thread Arno Teigseth
@Brad - Compiz: I'm starting to think so too.
My tests:
Created a very simple embed-pdf-webpage.
Loaded it in Firefox. Inline PDF. Good. Reloaded the page in firefox and evince
pops up in a new window =???
With many many reloads, it seems entirely random.

2)
Did metacity --replace to kill compiz and reloaded the test page MANY times.
Always embedded.

I'm thinking compiz here, too, cause of these tests.

[Bug 174832] Re: ubuntu gnome-terminal - wrong key mapping in bash with a french keyboard

2009-07-08 Thread Arno Teigseth
I had a similar problem, not with french but with dvorak layout:
SOLUTION IN UBUNTU JAUNTY
I too suddenly got this strange behaviour, but it used to work before.

Behaviour: In gnome-terminal, before I could start typing a command and
then cancel it by pressing Ctrl+I on a qwerty keyboard. That is Ctrl+C
on a dvorak.

Suddenly I could not. In fact all Ctrl+whatever did not work in gnome-
terminal. But they did in openoffice, firefox etc.

After some head scratching and googling I found some hints saying it helped to
delete the US layout. Made me think about that I recently had updated my
keyboard configuration file (http://arno.homelinux.org/dvorak/), and to make
xkb take it into consideration I usually
0) Copy the xkb file into /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/
1) Open keyboard preferences and delete the dvorak layout
2) Open keyboard preferences and add the dvorak layout again
Now I can type my updated keyboard.

-But this time the US Ctrl keys are in effect no matter what I try,
even when choosing the dvorak layout.

MY SOLUTION:
---
1) Open keyboard preferences and delete all but the dvorak layout
2) Add the layouts again.
3) Enjoy.
---

To me this is STILL A BUG, since now when I select US keyboard, I have
to press Ctrl+I to get a Ctrl+C. In other words, dvorak rules the Ctrl-
key. However since I never use anything but my custom layout I'm not
very much affected...

When thinking about it, I probably never saw this bug before because I
chose Norway dvorak during the install process. It is actually the
system default layout, to my cow-orkers' despair. ;)

I'm writing this long story to remember it myself, maybe it will help
you too.

[Bug 307968] Re: ekiga new look missing contact #'s ,call history

2009-05-29 Thread Arno Teigseth
Hi same for me after upgrading to jaunty from ibex:
In Ibex I was surprised to see that ekiga used Evolution's address book. Cool.
So, FROM EKIGA (IBEX), I added a telephone number to a contact.

Opened evolution and saw that a number was stored somewhere.

Recently updated to jaunty and now to my surprise the contact no longer
had a phone number. But in evolution it did.

Added the phone number again, and: Voilá:
-The Jaunty version of ekiga stores the phone number (VOIP URI) in Evolution's
BUSINESS PHONE NUMBER on the Contact tab.
However, the Ibex version of ekiga stored the phone numbers in Evolution's
VIDEO CHAT on the Personal tab.

I think for backwards compatibility the new jaunty version should
definately lookup VIDEO CHAT URIs in addition to BUSINESS PHONE
NUMBER

[Bug 330689] Re: New language: Kichwa

OK After contacting SIL it becomes clear that different orthographies do
not qualify for a new language code.

code to use.

[Bug 330689] Re: New language: Kichwa

2009-02-18 Thread Arno Teigseth
OK I'm writing to SIL since Ecuador now has got new, unified ortography
for all the dialects in Ecuador (Chimborazo, ,Cotopaxi, Bolívar,
Tungurahua, Imbabura, Cayambe, Loja, Azuay, Cañar, Salasaca, Napo and
Pastaza Quichua).

what before was written for example Ñucanchij huahuacuna now spells
Ñukanchik wawakuna, quite different-looking.

But still, I can only choose between Quechua (Bolivia, North) or
--South. (Openoffice)

Can qu_EC somehow be added as Kichwa (Ecuador) in the meantime?

I'm not 100% sure this is the correct package to file the bug under, but
it's as close as I get...

The language spoken by about 2-3 million natives in Ecuador is Kichwa,
not Quechua.

I've made a working dictionary for Kichwa but it's kind of hard adding

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 34813 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/34813

This is also an issue in Ibex; I know there are related bugs but this
one is labeled especifically SSHFS.

The problem is as explained above that on sshfs you cannot rename a file
A.txt to A.txt~ if A.txt~ already exists. Even if the target
filesystem can.

To me this is not gedit specific - all similar operations give the same
error:

a...@arno-laptop:~/jobbpc/var/www/dir$ mv stats.php stats.php~
mv: cannot move `stats.php' to `stats.php~': Operation not permitted

...while it works just fine if you mount with the rename workaround option to
sshfs, like  mszeredi says above:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit/+bug/36091/comments/15

What worries me is that sshfs isn't able to do this kind of renaming
even when the target filesystem is ext3. On my system it's all linux,
and I mount the remote ext3 system on a local ext3 tree via sshfs. OK
maybe the tree isnt ext3 but the filesystems are. Then from a user
standpoint I was puzzled that I couldn't do normal ext3 operations.
Until I found this bug :)

[Bug 258881] Re: Regression: With switchover to CUPS DDK many page sizes got dropped

2008-10-07 Thread Arno Teigseth
This bug also shows up using the driver Generic PCL 5c Printer
Foomatic/cljet5 on a Dsc224, which supports A3. I can add the correct
Papersize/region/imageable area options to /etc/cups/Dsc224.ppd by hand,
and it will print A3.

-When trying to print A3 from Inkscape, selecting the correct tray by
hand, and document properties are set to A3, the printer complains
Incorrect paper, expected: A4.

-Funny enough, if I print A3 from Inkscape using Default tray, the
printer is no longer complaining, but prints instead two A4 pages. One
with half the A3 page on it, one blank.

I don't know what is causing this, but I suspect the printer or CUPS.

A workaround for me has been printing to cups-pdf from inkscape, then
printing the resulting PDF by hand with: lp -d Dsc224 -o PageSize=A3
-o PageRegion=A3 -o ColorMode=Contone Printed_from_inkscape.pdf

This behaviour may or may not be related, but the fact that it is
possible to print A3 perfectly by hand makes me think something more is
wrong with CUPS or inkscape...

[Bug 278919] [NEW] Cannot move mail to certain folders

2008-10-06 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

This looks a bit like bug #215643 although it is not exactly like.

When I try to drag-and-drop mails to certain folders, they will not go
in there. They fly back to where dragged from. Right-clicking the
mail, choosing Move to folder and then clicking the misbehaving folder
also does not work: the folder is simply not highlighted as selected.

I can move mail to other folders both by drag-and-drop and by the right-click
menu.
If I try and create a new folder I can move mail to it.
I tried deleting the folder.cmeta, folder.ibex* files, but this did no
difference.

Permissions on the home/.evolution/* are all read-write.
I have run evolution from a terminal, and no messages appear as I try the move.

Note the evolution accounts, data, etc were migrated from another ubuntu
install (7.04 I think).
Now using 8.04, the Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync bug is
gone :). I get this bug instead o_O

The attachment is a video of the behaviour.

[Bug 123282] Re: LDAP fails. Says it can't find the server, but the server is there and spelled correctly. Works in Windows. Problem is probably with the authentifiaction.

2008-09-30 Thread Arno Teigseth
Remember that sometimes DNS is not properly setup. In my organization
the computer dept has a mixed setup of resolving IP addresses via DNS
and via SMB/NETBIOS/WINS or something samba-related.

I had this exact problem until I tried to ping the address book server
from my linux machine, telling me it couldn't be found. From a windows
machine it was found. One of the internal webservers are set up the
same way - only windows-IP-resolution works, not DNS.

Solutions:
a) Setting up samba and make it resolve addresses for you might help the
situation. If this works it's probably best because it mimics whatever
windows does, and in my case the computer department mostly think windowsy.

b) or, you could add the address book server IP address to /etc/hosts,
like I did and it works like a charm. If you go to Evolution
Prefecences, the exchange account and under Receiving options find
global catalog server name to be nooslse002.sonnico.local, you need to
find out the IP address of that server. I just ran ping
nooslse002.sonnico.local on a windows machine. Now add that address to
your /etc/hosts file:

127.0.0.1   localhost
32.8.8.70   nooslse002 nooslse002.sonnico.local

Bob should now be your uncle. He was in my case; I didn't get the LDAP
authentication failed and when I composed a new message, the lookup
effectively worked. This will break when computer department changes the
IP of the global addressbook server. They probably won't, but we're
aware of Murphy's law.

To developers: Maybe something could be done already in the settings
window, like to see if the server can be contacted at all?

[Bug 250433] [NEW] Clarify Save a copy grayed out

2008-07-21 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Would it be possible for evince to somehow explain _why_ it cannot print
or save a document, instead of just graying out the Save a copy menu
item?

I know I can just right-click a PDF link and Save as..., it's just
confusing when I don't get to know why I can't save the document...

This could maybe be done with a pop-up [dialog], a tooltip, changed
title bar text, some info showing up in the Properties window, an
information bar... ?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/109429 says:

Could it be due to the access/copy rights on specific pdf files you're viewing?
you can override these restrictions by setting
/apps/evince/override_restrictions with gconf-editor.

[Bug 106383] Re: xinput does not remap buttons anymore (SOLVED)

2007-05-22 Thread Arno Teigseth
I finally made wacom setup on feisty work:

did System | Preferences | Session and added to the session the following script
---
xsetwacom set stylus TPCButton off
xsetwacom set stylus Button1 1

# This is tap with the pen on screen. 3 is right-click, 2 is middle, 1 is
normal click
xsetwacom set stylus Button2 1

# This is hover-button on the pen. 3 is right-click, 2 is middle, 1 is normal
click
xsetwacom set stylus Button3 3
-

Now this works much better in Windows - I don't even need to put down the
stylus on the tablet to be able to right-click. I can just press the button on
the pen, hovering it close to the screen!
If you want to disable that function (having to press the stylus button AND tap
the screen, to right-click), specify TPCButton on.

[Bug 106383] Re: xinput does not remap buttons anymore

2007-05-22 Thread Arno Teigseth
there are different approaches.
1) Gaiwecoor points to editing the xorg.conf. That is a system-wide
configuration. Could work, but it didn't for me.
2) I tried and erred a lot with xsetwacom, the biggest problem was to make it
run on x startup time. I use Gnome and therefore made a script and added it to
the session startup list. A personal preference, but it can be made global by
moving the script and adding it to the default gnome session.

[Bug 116073] TravelMate C200 Display rotate key

2007-05-21 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hotkey-setup

Hi.

On a TravelMate C200 from Acer, Inc.

There are a few keys on top. I wanted the swiwel key to work and did the
following:

# Acer Laptops
setkeycodes 0x6b219 # Rotate display

In /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ I created the file 40custom_xmodmap with the
contents

xmodmap -e keycode 219 = XF86RotateWindows

Now in gconf-editor I added to metacity the key XF86RotateWindows to run this
script:
# swiweldisplay.sh
# Arnos dirty xrandr swiwel display hack
# 2007

RANDRSTATE=`xrandr -q |grep rotation |sed s/Current\ rotation\ -\ //`
echo $RANDRSTATE  /home/arno/config/randrstate

if [ $RANDRSTATE == normal ]; then
   xrandr -o right;
   xsetwacom set stylus rotate CW
   exit;
fi

if [ $RANDRSTATE == right ]; then
   xrandr -o inverted;
   xsetwacom set stylus rotate HALF
   exit;
fi

if [ $RANDRSTATE  == inverted ]; then
   xrandr -o left;
   xsetwacom set stylus rotate CCW
   exit;
fi

if [ $RANDRSTATE == left ]; then
   xrandr -o normal;
   xsetwacom set stylus rotate NONE
   exit;
fi

OK it rotates all the way around. Maybe not practical but it is what I needed.

It works!

Now, if someone knows how to get the X server to handle this instead of
metacity command binding, it would be greater. But for now it works very
well.

[Bug 106383] Re: xinput does not remap buttons anymore

2007-04-25 Thread Arno Teigseth
You'd probably be better off using xsetwacom. It will set the buttons
right and you can easily set rotation and other things after you used
xrandr to rotate your display.

I just found out I can even right-click without even touching the
tablet!

http://linuxwacom.sourceforge.net/index.php/howto/xsetwacom

xsetwacom set stylus Button1 1
xsetwacom set stylus Button2 3
xsetwacom set stylus Button3 2
xsetwacom set stylus Rotate CW

etc

give it a try

[Bug 106383] xinput does not remap buttons anymore

2007-04-13 Thread Arno Teigseth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xinput

Right-click with stylus does not work in feisty but used to in Edgy.
This is about a tablet [PC].

I used 'xinput set-button-map 1 3 2' to be able to right-click tappng the
stylus while holding down the button on the stylus. It did work in edgy.
I just updated to feisty. I think it worked actually, in the beginning. Sorry I
can't tell exactly. The first thing I installed was xinput (had my self-written
howto from edgy). But then (update?) suddenly it didn't anymore.

My guess is something bad happened with xinput/wacom cooperation. No
matter what order the numbers after 'xinput set-button-map' has, right-
clicking with the pen always middle-clicks (paste the selected text,
ususally).

The exit value of xinput is 0 (ok) in all possible combinations of the
three values. But the behaviour of the stylus remains the same. Middle-
click when holding down the little button, left-click when not.

I would call this a bug. But I don't know in what package, or what to
test next. Logs doesn't tell me much.
