[Bug 1915568] [NEW] lessfile is broken when using ~/.lessfilter
Public bug reported: If ~/.lessfilter exists and is used by lesspipe/lessfile, then lessfile will make the filename of the temporary file visible in less. The attached patch fixes this. (The filename is echoed to less after the subshell exits; trying to do it inside the subshell means it ends up looking to less like part of the file being viewed.) To test this, you can place the following file at ~/.lessfilter: #!/bin/sh echo foo exit 0 Then opening any file in less (assuming you have lessfile set up) should show "foo". The bug is that, currently, it also shows a filename from somewhere in /tmp. [Bug 1885984] [NEW] "restart required" dialog appears too frequently after being dismissed
Public bug reported: Whenever I run an upgrade that requires a reboot (e.g. kernel upgrade), I get a dialog saying "Please restart the computer to begin using your updated software" immediately after the upgrade; fair enough, I click "restart later". *Every time*, the same dialog appears about 3 minutes later, asking me to restart. Usually it goes away for a bit longer after I click "restart later" for the second time, but every time I do an apt operation it appears again. I would suggest that, probably, three minutes is not likely to be enough time for _anyone_ to have finished doing whatever has caused them to press "restart later" – it's especially bad that the dialog reappears early if you do other things with apt, since you end up having to continually dismiss it if you're trying to fix something broken before you reboot. Would it be an idea to rate-limit the dialog so that it appears, at most, once an hour or so? ** Affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1885984 Title: "restart required" dialog appears too frequently after being dismissed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1885984/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1295348] [NEW] interfaces(5) man page should mention 70-persistent-net.rules for consistent eth* naming
Public bug reported: Currently interfaces(5) says in KNOWN BUGS/LIMITATIONS: Unfortunately it can happen that the kernel assigns different physical interface names to the same hardware at different times; for example, what was called eth0 last time you booted is now called eth1 and vice versa. This creates a problem if you want to configure the interfaces appropriately. See the get-mac-address.sh script in the examples directory for an example of such a mapping script. See also Debian bug #101728. The modern solution, described in Debian docs [1], is to use edit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules. [Bug 1171733] Re: Cannot connect to OS X (Regression)
On 26-Feb-2014 I identified the cause of this problem and proposed a fix. I emailed the maintainer of remmina-plugin-vnc (Debian package) (dktrkr...@debian.org) with a breakdown of the problem and the fix/s. I did not receive a reply, so I will just attach email here instead. It has to do with the fact that when the remmina vnc plugin is built on newer versions of Debian (and/or Ubuntu) the compiler builds against the system package version of libvncserver rather than the customized internal version of libvncserver packaged with the remmina-plugin-vnc source. These days the system package version of libvncserver is the better option, and this is probably intended behavior, but remmina- plugin-vnc looks for certain custom defined flags in its personal version of libvncserver in order to enable Apple Authentication support. It doesnt see these flags, so this feature doesnt work. In my case, I simply removed the #IFDEF checks for these defined flags, recompiled (still against the Debian package version of libvncserver) and it worked correctly. I would prefer to see this bug fixed at the Debian level, rather than just the Ubuntu package. ** Attachment added: Email to dktrkr...@debian.org https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remmina/+bug/1171733/+attachment/4019126/+files/email.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171733 Title: Cannot connect to OS X (Regression) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remmina/+bug/1171733/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1094138] Re: Modem Manager Locks Dual FTDI Serial Ports
Ahh---that makes sense about the USB to Serial adapter--thanks for explaining Alekasander. As a USB-to-serial adapter is a generic device that may or may not be connected to a modem, a manually-launched scan makes sense. In the interim though, it makes sense that distros adjust the blacklist to fit their user base. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1094138 Title: Modem Manager Locks Dual FTDI Serial Ports To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/modemmanager/+bug/1094138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1094138] [NEW] Modem Manager Locks Dual FTDI Serial Ports
Public bug reported: As per Question #217761, I'm submitting a bug report in order to include a patch. Details from question follow: I'm trying to connect serial console to an embedded device and but I'm not able to connect for the first 36 seconds after connection as modem-manager has locked the /dev/ttyUSB1 file (as shown by '$ sudo lsof /dev/ttyUSB1'). By blacklisting the USB ID (0403:6010) of the device in the '77-mm-usb-devices-blacklist.rhles' udev rule, I can immediately access the device. Much like the commonly used single FTDI USB-serial converter chip (USD ID 0403:6001) that is blacklisted in this file 77-mm-usb-device-blacklist.rules, I think the dual version (USB ID 0403:6010) chould also be added as it is commonly used in JTAG debugged boards and embedded devices. ... [Bug 1094138] Re: Modem Manager Locks Dual FTDI Serial Ports
Are there any modems using a FT2232 chip without a custom USB device ID? I suggested the change on the basis that the chip is commonly used in embedded devices (e.g. http://www.tincantools.com/product.php?productid=16134 and https://www.gumstix.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=262) without the extra eeprom used to set a custom VID/PID but expected (perhaps naively) that modem designers would actually want a unique identifier for their particular device. I certainly understand dropping the patch if there are Modem out there that would be broken by this change. This is good to hear that the probe will be shorter in future versions and avoiding automatic probing seems like a good change :).

[Bug 1041883] Re: Recent patch to asus-wmi module makes system unbootable
I was seeing this problem with Ubuntu 12.04 booting off SSD (similar to my earlier openSUSE setup). After a little fiddling around based on the info in this thread (especially about asus_wmi_rfkill_init()) and the asus-wmi.c, I think I've found the problematic module which seems to cause the race condition. It is btusb. I suspect the issue is more prominently seen when booting off SSD since the asus-wmi and btusb's timing overlap but not that easily when booting off a regular HDD. To fix the issue on Ubuntu, this is what I did: echo blacklist btusb | sudo tee /etc/blacklist-btusb.conf echo /sbin/modprobe btusb | sudo tee /etc/rc.local I've just moved insmodding the btusb module from the early modprobe stage to the very last in the rc scripts. In other words you should still have bluetooth working when the GUI starts up. I rebooted at least 10 times without any issues, and I have almost all the Fn key combinations working (except for Brightness and the keys above space bar). I haven't got this high success rate in booting in the past 1 - 2 months. BTW, a similar fix also works for my openSUSE bootup (use /etc/rc.d/boot.local instead of /etc/rc.local) Could others who are having the problem - verify if this at least works around the kernel panics as well as have asus-wmi working ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041883 Title: Recent patch to asus-wmi module makes system unbootable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1041883/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have an UX32VD and I boot a 3.5.x kernel (from openSUSE). I can confirm I have the exact same problem and hang as described in this thread. (with the caps lock key LED flashing). So you can understand how annoying this bug is when the auto shutdown hangs and never completes meaning it never turns back on again to record the next show unless I notice the problem and manually intervene. After doing the steps outlined in comment #41 my machine has been shutting down consistently with out a problem for several weeks now. I'm still running kernel 2.6.38-10-generic and being that this bug still isn't properly fixed I'm very reluctant to update to kernel 2.6.38-11-generic in case the issue returns. With only a month away from the next Ubuntu release it seems like this bug is just being ignored. Does anyone know if the issue is still present with the current development version of 11.10? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/762203 Title: Computer is not turned off at shutdown To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/762203/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 824369] [NEW] ubuntu 11.04 - lirc init script sets invalid ir protocol for imon driver (imon Looks like you're trying to use an IR protocol this device does not support)

[Bug 816987] [NEW] Xubuntu 11.04 installer crashed towards end of install
Public bug reported: I was installing Xubuntu 11.04 on my Intel Celeron M 1.5GHz laptop, and it crashed towards the end of the install process. When I left it before I went to bed, it was slowly downloading updates. Then, when I checked it in the morning, it said that the installer crashed and to file a bug report here. The status bar at the bottom of the install window said checking for packages to remove, so it crashed at or before this stage. I was doing an install only, and I didn't have time to go into live cd mode. I rebooted the with the live cd later (which I'm using now) to submit this bug report. I looked for the files /var/log/syslog and /var/log/partman under the root partition of my hard drive, but they do not exist even when having show hidden files selected. The version of ubiquity is the default one that comes with the live cd. Thanks. ** Affects: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/816987 Title: Xubuntu 11.04 installer crashed towards end of install To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/816987/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 797491] Re: overo lcd43 touchscreen does not work
I can confirm this bug in linux-linaro-2.6.38 master and have tested Andy's patch with both a DVI monitor attached and a LTE430WQ panel attached. Both types of screens worked although the 4.3 panel showed a vertical bar at one point in the image. It was not necessary to add the omapdss.def_disp=lcd43 argument. Note, lgphilips 3.5 panels aren't fixed by this patch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/797491 Title: overo lcd43 touchscreen does not work To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux-linaro/+bug/797491/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
