Public bug reported:
Any application that results in a period of intense disk activity causes
the mouse and keyboard to become unresponsive. When copying large files
the mouse will respond for a brief period, a few microseconds, moving
across the screen, but then won't respond for 10-15 seconds. After disk
activity has finished the mouse/keyboard respond normally again.
