I've got that too. It's a kernel issue, it happens only in gutsy's
2.6.22 here; kernel.org 2.6.23 works fine...

Oh and after turning off floppy drive in BIOS I've got this:
udevd-event[2338]: run program '/sbin/modprobe' abnormal exit
and a busybox prompt (that's kubuntu desktop install.) No dmesg there,
unfortunately.

I can confirm that 2.6.23-rc6 + newest libdevmapper fixes the bug for me
(Seagate.)

I've got the same drive and the same problem in edgy. The drive was
reclaimed from an older machine.

I wasn't even aware of Klipper's existence until now. I agree this is
a major (if only from a psychological standpoint) issue. Two of my
friends nearly dropped Kubuntu because of it.

Adding an image in oowriter and manipulating it ends in a crash sooner
or later; after recovery of a document, merely clicking on an image
results in a crash. I'm not sure if other objects (e.g. formulas) are
affected by this, but clicking
forgot to add: this happens after upgrade to edgy.
