I am not using spdif. Standard 3.5mm analog stereo to a 2.1 computer
speaker system.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Play any audio.
2. Listen. You can make it out, but the higher frequencies are all distorted,
like a crackly whine.

work. When I run HDA Analyzer as root, I don't see an "enable" checkbox

My X session just crashed under 3.6-rc6. There are no other candidate
kernels to try.
I've just now followed the instructions on submitting a kernel oops,
which I should have done all along.
Does it make sense to continue testing 3.6, or should I be running 3.5
since that appears to be what 12.1
The bug still exists with 3.5.4. My session crashed last night, but I
forgot to report it until now. That's the latest stable kernel. Now
I'll try 3.6-rc6.

When it crashed this time, I was reading in a large database dump,
browsing in Firefox, and playing a video in VLC. Firefox had two
windows open, one of which was hidden behind another window, and when I
clicked the Firefox

The Ubuntu stock kernel, 3.2.0-30, definitely exhibited the behavior
describe above. According to [1] that kernel is based on mainline
3.2.27.

report and say I'm experiencing it too. But when I do that, the bug

FYI, I'm able to consistently trigger this crash by clicking the
NoScript icon in Firefox (which of course requires you to have the
NoScript extension installed). It happens instantly, every time. I'm
only mentioning this in the hope that this test is easier to perform
than the one mentioned in t

Like jimav, I have no intention of ever adding a mail account on this
machine, but I log in and out at least daily. It seems silly that I
should be confronted by this dialog every time I log in.

Lucid: Mail Notification Properties pops up on ever
After applying many updates yesterday and today, I'm sorry to say that
this bug has again reared it's ugly head. In addition to NoScript
immediately crashing X, attempting to play Flash videos does the same.
This bug did not exist in Lucid Beta 1, then appeared in Beta 2. It

@Andy: Under Karmic, I just installed xz-utils and ignored the warning,
and everything worked fine.
I would be surprised if they were to change this is Karmic, since it's
not an LTS, and changing it would impose a huge testing burden to ensure
that it worked with everything. But I'm not an Ubuntu
