[Bug 2078494] Re: After upgrade to 24.04.1 LTS pg_upgradecluster fails
On my standby pc, I upgraded today from 22.04 to 24.04.1 After the upgrade /usr/lib/postgresql/14/bin/postgres and the named libraries were all still in place. pg_lsclusters showed the old (v.14) and the new (v.16) clusters, as expected. So I dropped the new v.16 cluster with "--stop", and ran pg_upgradecluster 14 main. That *appeared* to finish ok this time - except that it didn't. The new v.16 cluster was left with the new port (5433), did not have me as an admin user, and didn't have any of the databases that should have been upgraded. I copied the screen output to pg_upgradecluster.OUT, which I will upload; and I'm shutting down the standby pc in this strange condition, in case questions need to be answered. Not quite the same as on my main pc, but the error is probably related none-the-less. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2078494 Title: After upgrade to 24.04.1 LTS pg_upgradecluster fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postgresql-16/+bug/2078494/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2078494] Re: After upgrade to 24.04.1 LTS pg_upgradecluster fails
Perhaps I can be a bit more helpful - I have a standby pc on 22.04 LTS. It has /usr/lib/postgresql/14/bin/postgres I'll upgrade that box to 24.04 as soon as I can, though probably not before next weekend (other jobs needing even more urgent attention!). And when I do, I'll track what happens when I run pg_upgradecluster, with careful reference to 14/bin/postgres. But I also note the last statement but one in the original error message: "/usr/lib/postgresql/14/bin/postgres: error while loading shared libraries: libldap-2.5.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" My standby pc on 22.04 has that shared library in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux- gnu, where it is linked to libldap-2.5.so.0.1.8 The upgraded pc, on which I found that error on pg_upgradecluster, does NOT have that shared library file, but only libldap.so.2 -> libldap.so.2.0.200 So I wonder whether libldap-2.5.so.0 was removed in the system upgrade to 24.04 LTS , and whether that's the true error ?? - I'll track that too when I upgrade the standby pc ...
I'm afraid I can't add much to the original report - it's too long ago, and I can't backtrack to try to repeat the exercise. The Noble upgrade installed PG16 and created the new cluster with a new port number above the normal, and all looked ok until I ran "sudo pg_upgradecluster 14 main", at which point I got the previously-reported errors. I tried to re-install the package, but that left me with the same problem. So I fixed it by manually changing the port numbers for the '14' cluster and then the new '16' cluster; then created myself as a new administrator, then created empty databases; and then remade the databases from the relevant datadumps. All then worked fine, so I dropped the old '14' cluster - which is why I can't backtrack to repeat the exercise. The critical point in the error is 'The program "postgres" is needed by pg_ctl but was not found in the same directory as "/usr/lib/postgresql/14/bin/pg_ctl"'. But in needing to get my database systems up and running again, I didn't check that, and wouldn't have been entirely sure what exactly to do anyway, given versioning problems. pg_upgradecluster should perhaps check such potential errors earlier, and be precise about what it needs. There is a 'postgres' in /usr/lib/postgresql/16/bin, but "14/bin" has been removed in the purge of '14', so I can't check it ... [Bug 2078959] Re: Since upgrade to 24.04.1 LTS login screen shows "23.10"
But on my system, the installed /usr/share/unity-greeter/logo.png shows "ubuntu 23.10", set against a gray chequered background ... The Package version shows in Synaptic as 23.10.1-0ubuntu4, like accountsservice, as noted above (#10). The version number (unity-greeter -v) shows as 17.04.1 (did major development stop then?) The Manual page for unity-greeter says "It is run by the LightDM daemon if configured in lightdm.conf"; the manpage for lightdm says that conf is not used if accountsservice is used - which (on my system) it is - and set by default, not by my choice. [Bug 1955854] [NEW] After update to linux kernel 5.13.0-22-generic, cannot power off, cannot reboot, and cannot sleep PC.
Public bug reported: I'm running Kubuntu 21.10 on a Lenovo Ideapad 320, dual booting with Windows 10. After installing the kernel update to 5.13.0-22-generic, shutting down, rebooting, sleeping, etc all fail in the same manner; the display shuts off, but the power remains on (the LED powerlight doesn't go off if powering off, flash if sleeping, etc).
