[Bug 1807119] [NEW] Cannot load/save settings

2018-12-06 Thread Brian McNeil
Public bug reported:

Envy24control.
Version: 1.0.3+svn13-6 (bionic)
Section: Multimedia(universe)
Ubuntu version: 18.04 LTS

Issue present from at least 16.04,

Whilst envy24control creates and maintains ~/.envy24control/profiles.conf
mudita24 fails to do so. This is the case even when the profiles.conf file is
explicitly pointed to using the -f option.

In order to capture stdout/stderr messages, I start mudita24 from the
command line, thus:

$ mudita24 -c 1 -f /home/fawkes/.envy24control/profiles.conf

On the profiles tab, I can see the named "Card-1" profile previously
created using envy24control. Should I click to load the settings from
this, the following output is displayed in the terminal window:

Cannot find program '0'.
You must specify path for '0'
Cannot restore settings for card '1' in profile '2'
Use current settings.

Likewise should I adjust settings and click "Save active profile", the
following is displayed in the terminal:

Cannot find program '0'.
You must specify path for '0'.
Cannot store profile '2' for card '1'

This behaviour is consistent, regardless of the value of the -f
parameter. Setting ALSACTL_PROG to explicitly point to the installed
alsactl also has no impact.

As a result of this issue, mudita24 only serves as a control for the
currently loaded profile. It cannot be used to create or manage saved
profiles.

** Affects: mudita24 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1285440] Re: xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin Switch Users functionality

2014-07-12 Thread Brian McNeil
Following comments elsewhere from Toz (which turned out most-helpful),
I've effectively copied the gdmflexiserver file
(/usr/lib/lightdm/lightdm/gdmflexiserver) from a 13.10 install of Ubuntu
Studio into a 14.04 environment. That resolves the issue without
resorting to locking the screen and selecting 'New Login'.

It not only resolves the issue with whiskermenu, the standard 'Action
Buttons' panel no longer shows Switch User as greyed-out.

The relevant command in gdmflexiserver doesn't make reference to gnome,
being as-follows:

dbus-send --system --type=method_call --print-reply
--dest=org.freedesktop.DisplayManager $XDG_SEAT_PATH
org.freedesktop.DisplayManager.Seat.SwitchToGreeter

[Bug 515153] Re: Ubuntu One gave error attempting startup

2010-02-04 Thread Brian McNeil
I managed to get this fixed.

I tried following the faq/930, that failed for me, so I stopped
ubuntuone, deleted every directory I could find relating to it,
restarted it, and was able to successfully get it online.

[Bug 444493] Re: evolution does not decrypt cited message in reply

Please do not rank this bug as low-priority!

I will file upstream immediately as this is very, very important to me -
as is an option to force encryption where I have relevant keys.

I found a fix for this bug. See Bug 440589. The issue was use of the
realtime kernel.

I can't see what I think is an appropriate status to set this bug to. It
needs to be closed due to obscure OS-related bug

2009-10-02 Thread Brian McNeil
That's the wrong bug number. The bug I was trying to refer to is on the
OpenOffice forum.

Summary is: parts of OO install and update procedures fail and cause the
machine to crash when running on a realtime kernel.

Fix is: boot using a standard non-realtime kernel and Add/Remove...
under applications will allow updates to be installed.

My reason for using the realtime kernel is to use packages from Ubuntu
Studio.

I would not even begin to know how to report this to the right place -
as a bug with the realtime kernel.
