[Bug 1912827] [NEW] package oscar 1.0.1-r1 failed to install/upgrade: installed oscar package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2021-01-22 Thread Carl B.
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 20.10
Release:20.10

oscar:
  Installed: 1.0.1-r1

 *** 1.0.1-r1 100

This machine is a fresh install (groovy gorilla, amd64) with "minimal"
packages - so LibreOffice was not installed by default. I attempted to
open an .xls file by clicking it in the file manager; responded to the
resulting pop-up dialogue with "find an app to open this" and (from the
list of three suggested apps) selecting LibreOffice Calc. The "Ubuntu
Software" app popped up; I clicked "Install" - it sat at "0% completed"
for a minute or two, then failed with the prompt to report this to
Ubuntu as a bug and with "Unable to install 'LibreOffice Calc' as not
supported.

An attempt to "apt install libreoffice" as root from the command line
also fails, with:

# apt install libreoffice

[Bug 1905522] Re: Error in fresh install of Ubuntu 20.10 package grub-efi-amd64-signed 1.155.1+2.04-1ubuntu35.1 failed

2021-01-21 Thread Carl B.
I'm seeing something similar on an ASUS desktop PC (AMD socket FM2,
DDR3) which already has a few dual-boot options installed. I'm trying to
install groovy 20.10 using Ubiquity from the live CD/DVD/USB. The
installer goes through most of its paces, until it tries to install
GRUB. It then dies with a pop-up box:

Error installing grub-efi-amd64-signed

installed grub-efi-amd64-signed package post-installation script
subprocess returned error exit status 1

Attempting to install the package manually from a live desktop terminal window
also fails, with:

$ sudo su -
# chroot /target
# apt install grub-efi-amd64

giving:

Setting up grub-efi-amd64 (2.04-1ubuntu35.1) ...
Installing grub to /boot/efi.
Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
grub-install: warning: Cannot read EFI Boot* variables.
grub-install: warning: read_file: could not read from file: Input/output error.
grub-install: warning: vars_get_variable:
read_file(/sys/firmware/efi/vars/Boot000C-8be4df61-93ca-11d2-aa0d-00e098032b8c/raw_var)
 failed
: Input/output error.
grub-install: warning: efi_get_variable: ops->get_variable failed: Input/output
error.
grub-install: error: failed to register the EFI boot entry: Input/output error.

The workaround seems to be, while the installer is stopped at the error message
box but still open, launching a terminal window from the live desktop and
mounting efivarfs manually. At that point, apt may be used to install the
package, install grub, apt upgrade everything to the current release...
whatever.

 sudo su -
 chroot /mount/target
 sh -c "mount -t efivarfs efivarfs /sys/firmware/efi/efivars; grub-install;
update-grub;
 apt install --reinstall grub-efi-amd64-signed

After that, I was able to reboot into Ubuntu 20.10 (groovy) from the
internal SSD.

Without that, I could try the installer any number of times and it would
always fail the same way.

bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=933523 looks to be related

bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2-signed/+bug/1874315 might be as
well?

[Bug 1767361] Re: 4.6.6deb5 not working on Bionic as PHP 7.2 is default

2018-07-23 Thread Carl B.
The latest version is
https://files.phpmyadmin.net/phpMyAdmin/4.8.2/phpMyAdmin-4.8.2-all-
languages.tar.gz - just grab it from phpMyAdmin's site and drop it in
your /var/www/html tree.

I'm disappointed to see that Ubuntu18 (Bionic) is shipping with multiple
outdated packages which have PHP 7.2 compatibility issues (I'm having
the same or worse issue with php-tcpdf, see bug#1781000) but the
quickest solution seems to be to go upstream for current versions of the
affected code.

[Bug 1781000] Re: php-tcpdf installs outdated code which breaks with " Deprecated: The each() function is deprecated." on PHP version 7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2

2018-07-22 Thread Carl B.
According to https://github.com/elibyy/tcpdf-laravel/issues/37 this
might be as simple as editing /usr/share/php/tcpdf/tcpdf.pdf to replace
every instance of:

   while (list($id, $name) = each($attr_array[1])) {

with:

   foreach($attr_array[1] as $id => $name) {

Nonetheless, it would be preferable that the distribution install up-to-
date (or at least compatible) versions of all packages so that users
don't need to make these sort of patches.

[Bug 1781000] [NEW] php-tcpdf installs outdated code which breaks with " Deprecated: The each() function is deprecated." on PHP version 7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2

2018-07-10 Thread Carl B.
Public bug reported:

I just installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS Release: 18.04 and the TCPDF packaged
with it doesn't work properly with the PHP 7.2.7 which came with the
same Ubuntu release:

# apt install php-tcpdf
php-tcpdf is already the newest version (6.2.13+dfsg-1ubuntu1).

# php -v
PHP 7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 (cli) (built: Jul  4 2018 16:55:24) ( NTS )
Copyright (c) 1997-2018 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v3.2.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2018 Zend Technologies
with Zend OPcache v7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2, Copyright (c) 1999-2018, by Zend
Technologies

gives me this when I try to download a PDF from a website hosted on Ubuntu
18.04 LTS:

Deprecated: The each() function is deprecated. This message will be suppressed
on further calls in /usr/share/php/tcpdf/tcpdf.php on line 16542
TCPDF ERROR: Some data has already been output, can't send PDF file

TCPDF was generating a valid PDF for download before the "upgrade" from Ubuntu
16 to Ubuntu 18 replaced PHP with a newer version that deprecates a function
which is needed. A forum post at
http://www.chronoengine.com/forums/posts/t105654/tcpdf-broken-on-php-7-2
suggests that TCPDF version 6.2.17 contains a fix for this issue, but Ubuntu
18.04 LTS is deploying an older version php-tcpdf 6.2.13+dfsg-1ubuntu1, which
simply refuses to play nice with the PHP 7.2.7-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 bundled into
the same release of Ubuntu.

 Status: New
