[Bug 1957730] [NEW] Clean install from USB NVMe drive, including disc erase

2022-01-12 Thread Don Chase
Public bug reported:

I chose "Erase Disc" with no advanced options.

Additionally got the message "Installation Complete: Installation is
complete. You need to restart the computer in order to use the new
installation."

I will attempt another clean install. This time I will try the LVM
advanced option.

[Bug 1452641] Re: Static Ceph mon IP addresses in connection_info can prevent VM startup

2021-10-08 Thread Chase Peterson
We are also experiencing this issue with Stein.

We are deployed using rook-ceph as our ceph deployment and the monitors
IP address will rotate if any of the monitors are down for more than 10
minutes. Which means anytime we do maintenance on a node running one of
rook-ceph's monitors the ip address will change and we have to go into
the database and update all the mon_hosts for the VMs just so they are
able to start up again.

[Bug 1919256] Re: Upgrade failure does not provide adequate next-step info

2021-03-16 Thread David R Chase
I.e., you have an error message about foreign packages.
Great. I don't know what they are.
I did not install them, as far as I know.

Does the upgrade process not know what they are?
Why not name them?
Looking in a log file is an EXTRA STEP FOR ME.
I COULD MAKE A MISTAKE.
I DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM DOING.

Next, given those names, is there a process for constructing a command line for
ppa-purge?
If not, what do you think the chance is that I will, by myself, be able to
construct this command line? Pretty darn low, I'd say. I do not want to ask
questions. I do not want to join a commmunity. I want to upgrade my OS.

So there had better be a process. Can it be automated?
Fine, then automate it.

This is not a question. This is a bug. Converting this to a question
would not eliminate all the upgrade hurdles for anyone else.

That you would think that "you can turn this into a question" is a
reasonable response to this bug report, is itself a problem.

[Bug 1919256] [NEW] Upgrade failure does not provide adequate next-step info

2021-03-15 Thread David R Chase
Public bug reported:

I am presented with this.

"An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

 This was likely caused by:
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu
Please use the tool 'ppa-purge' from the ppa-purge
package to remove software from a Launchpad PPA and
try the upgrade again.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the command
'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If you want to
investigate this yourself the log files in '/var/log/dist-upgrade' will
contain details about the upgrade. Specifically, look at 'main.log' and
'apt.log'."

ppa-purge is a command with "mandatory options" and I do not know what
they are, and the upgrade error message does not tell me either.
Therefore, I am stuck. I do not know how to find those options, etc, if
there is a mechanical process for doing so, I think it would be super-
excellent to, uh, mechanize the invocation of ppa-purge. And if that is
actually not a safe thing to do, do you think it is wise to hand it off
to this ignorant primate instead?

I see here that maybe I could get more information at
http://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/ -- a little too late to put that
here, after all the time I put into creating an account etc, if that's
is such a great idea, PUT IT IN THE ERROR MESSAGE INSTEAD. Each hurdle
between me and my goal raises my blood pressure and makes me think
snarky thoughts about Linux and its developers.

[Bug 1078165] Re: zram-config fails to start/install on a system with more then 30 processors

2020-09-15 Thread Chase
This was tested in a VM running Ubuntu Server 20.04 with fewer than 29
cores dedicated to it, so I didn't run into the bug. Unfortunately the
production server wasn't available for testing (especially since each
benchmark took over an hour!).

Yes, custom zram-config means the sram-config but with the patch
applied.

Be sure to click the last link, as it will show you all three tests
side-by-side.

Overall, I would say that the custom zram-config doesn't much matter to
the performance.

[Bug 1078165] Re: zram-config fails to start/install on a system with more then 30 processors

2020-09-09 Thread Chase
It's worth noting the multiple streams Oibaf mentioned are currently the
default. On my system, there are the max number of swap devices each
with 32 streams. I propose we only have one device and use the default
behavior of max_comp_streams = number of CPUs.

It's my first time creating an apt patch, hopefully I've done it
correctly.

[Bug 1895002] [NEW] zram-config attempts to allocate more devices than permitted

2020-09-09 Thread Chase
Public bug reported:

Using zram-config on a system with a sufficiently high count of CPUs
causes the systemd service to fail. The reason being that there is a cap
on the amount of swap devices that can be allocated. Zram is properly
allocated, but the systemd service fails since some devices cannot be
allocated. Below is the output of the service.

The fix should be simple enough (but I'm not proficient with git patches
yet). The script at /usr/bin/init-zram-swapping currently takes the
number of CPUs and creates this many devices to enable parallelization.
The simplest fix would be to set a max number of devices.

An alternative would be to use a smaller number of devices, but enable
multiple threads on each device. My understanding is that this is now
possible, but I'm not sure which method is more performant.

I just updated to KiCad 5.1.6 on Windows 10 1909 64bit and noticed that
some of my models are no longer rendering.

Specifically a USB-B , RJ-45 and a right angle push button... They are
rendered in the properties preview of the footprint but not on the board
in 3d viewer. I can attach some of the other models if needed. It
doesn't appear to be project specific as I can open another project and
drop one of these on and it won't show there either.

** Affects: kicad (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Attachment added: "One of the files that doesn't show up in the 3d Viewer."

Yup, that's the trouble. Good sleuthing. Knowing that (and, indeed,
`ssh-add -X` reports success regardless of password entered), I can
start a real ssh-agent anywhere I want agent locking instead of gui
integration.

Thanks!

2015-02-12 Thread Richard Chase
No. This has been going on ever since I purchased the laptop, about a
year ago. From what I gather on the web, this is a problem everyone with
a Tishiba Satellite, switching to Linux, has had.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
 v3.19 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
 Confirmed.

[Bug 1229886] Re: Grub2 cannot bring Win 7 out of hibernation - error 0xc000009a

2013-11-22 Thread Chase Zheng
I have the same problem, too. Windows 7 cannot return from hibernation
if I try to boot it from grub. However, if I boot it from refind, the
error doesn't show up. What's interesting is that both refind and grub
points to the same bootmgr.efi file in the ESP partition. I generate
grub.cfg with update-grub, so the entry is similar to what others have
provided here.

[Bug 879950] Re: pidgin not showing up

2013-07-18 Thread Chase Sandmann
This seriously needs to be fixed ASAP. It is ridiculous the hoops that
users of this software have to go through in order for it to function
basically. If a user logs in and is sent a message, clicking on the
tray icon only flips the message and there is no way to even access the
Tools Preferences menu. Only the conversation menu is accessible
which only has Conversation and Options (neither of which supplies any
help in opening the Buddy Menu)

[Bug 1047596] Re: Geisv1 gesture class IDs are wrong

   Status: New = In Progress

** Changed in: geis (Ubuntu Precise)
   Importance: Undecided = High

** Changed in: geis (Ubuntu Precise)
Assignee: (unassigned) = Chase Douglas (chasedouglas)

** Description changed:

- When the old grail architecture was removed, the geisv1 gesture IDs were
- updated to have new values that were not dependent on the old grail
- architecture definitions. Unfortunately, the gesture IDs were only
- updated in one location of the source code, but not in the public geis
- header file. This causes geisv1 clients to fail to operate, and will
- require them to be rebuilt in order to function properly.
+ [Impact]
+ The Geisv1 gesture IDs were changed when the old grail architecture was
removed, since the IDs were based on grail v2 constants. Unfortunately, the
gesture IDs are part of the GEIS v1 ABI. The change caused all geisv1 clients
to fail to work.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Log into the Unity desktop and attempt any Unity gesture, such as three
fingers to move a window around. If it works, then this bug is fixed.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Small. The fix will actually help the code and the public headers stay in
sync going forward. There is very little chance for a regression if the issue
is fixed.

[Bug 1046592] [NEW] Dependency on gesture stack must be updated due to rename

2012-09-05 Thread Chase Douglas
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The gesture stack has been renamed to Open Input Framework. The dependency on
grail must be changed to libgrail-dev.

[Test Case]
Ensure that the package continues to build and function as normal after
installation. Nothing specific needs to be tested.

[Regression Potential]
Practically zero as long as the package builds. If any issues arise, they will
likely be noticed immediately in the form of crashes due to unresolved symbols.

[Bug 1037621] Re: [Needs-Packaging] geis (project name change)

2012-08-30 Thread Chase Douglas
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The new geis package is a rename of the utouch-geis package, due to the
upstream project being renamed. This package is a branch of upstream 2.2.9, the
last version to be released on precise.
+
+ The XCB backend has been removed because it was dead code and the only
+ alternative would be to excise references to uTouch for no gain. The
+ backend has already been removed upstream.

  [Test Case]
  Build package in pbuilder chroot.

  [Regression Potential]
Very minor. The upstream merge renames files and symbols. A number of bugs
were also fixed in the upstream merge.

following bug fixes:
  * removes XCB back end
  * removes overlapping events when a gesture is accepted (lp: #1001365)
  * avoids trying to start a DBus session if there is none already (lp: #997630)
  * detect added devices properly (LP: #1009270)
  * fix crash when accepting a gesture (LP: #1015775)
  * fix result value of geis_subscription_deactivate() (LP: #1021448)
  * upstream project renamed to just 'geis'

[Bug 1029643] Re: [Needs-Packaging] grail (renamed from utouch-grail)

** Description changed:

[Bug 1042827] [NEW] Crash on gesture subscription

2012-08-28 Thread Chase Douglas
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification
=
[Impact]
OIF-QML crashes on gesture subscription due to a missing NULL terminator for a
geis function. Adding a NULL value onto the end of the variadic arguments fixes
the issue.

[Test Case]
Attempt to run a qml program that uses OIF-QML, such as one of the examples
that are provided by the project. If it runs, then the bug is fixed.

[Regression Potential]
Practically zero.

The fix for this issue may be found in revision 111 upstream:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~oif-team/oif-qml/trunk/revision/111.

[Bug 1042832] [NEW] Use default Geis backend

2012-08-28 Thread Chase Douglas
Public bug reported:

SRU Justification
=
[Impact]
The oif-qml geis initialization specifies the usage of the XCB backend. This
backend no longer exists in upstream geis. The backend does not need to be
specified, in which case geis will pick the best one available.

[Test Case]
Attempt to run an oif-qml example against geis in Ubuntu 12.04 or later. It
will fail if the XCB backend is still specified.

[Regression Potential]
Minimal. As long as oif-qml functions, everything is good.

The fix for this issue can be found in upstream revision 110:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~oif-team/oif-qml/trunk/revision/110.

[Bug 1009270] Re: Unity fails to use multitouch gestures if magic touchpad is connected after Unity has launched

2012-08-16 Thread Chase Douglas
** Description changed:

- If I connect my magic touchpad after Unity has launched - in this case,
- by clicking on it to wake it up and re-pair it with the desktop - then
- it works fine as a touchpad but Unity fails to receive multitouch
- (three-finger move, four finger swipe/tap) gestures. Restarting Unity
- gets those gestures back.
+ SRU Justification
+ =
+ [Impact]
+ Without this fix, new multitouch devices connected to a computer after the
user has logged in will not be recognized. They will continue to work as normal
pointing devices, but they will fail to work for gesture handling.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Obtain a detachable multitouch device, such as an Apple Magic Trackpad. Leave
it disconnected at first. Log in to Unity. Connect the device. Attempt to
perform a gesture, such as a four touch tap to open the dash. The gesture
should work.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Small. The code change is fairly trivial and should not cause any regression.
Any regression that may be seen would involve devices not generating gestures
due to mismatched gesture subscriptions. If gestures continue to work for all
devices, then there is likely no regression.

[Bug 1020315] Re: quick, single-finger, taps not correctly processed

[Bug 1020315] Re: quick, single-finger, taps not correctly processed

2012-08-10 Thread Chase Douglas
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- TBD
+ Proper usage of grail gestures requires processing gestures only after they
have finished construction. Software, such as Unity, waits for this event in
order to handle gestures properly. When the event does not occur, a grail
gesture may be left unaccepted and unrejected, which may cause the touch
interface to hang and become unresponsive to future taps. This bug causes
grail to not emit a construction finished event under certain circumstances.

  [Test Case]
  Preconditions:
    - Activate a subscription for single-touch gestures of class Touch.
    - There should be no other application with higher priority for getting
ownership over the touches.

  Steps to reproduce the problem:
   1 - Perform a quick tap on a touchscreen.
  - That will produce 3 utouch-frame events
    a) a frame begin with owned == false
    b) a frame update with owned == true
    c) a frame end

  Expected outcome:
The following slice events should be sent by grail:
     1. Slice Begin, construction finished == false
- 2. Slice Update, construction finished == false
- 3. Slice End, construction finished == true
+    2. Slice Update, construction finished == false
+    3. Slice End, construction finished == true

  Actual outcome:
The following slice events are sent by grail:
     1. Slice Begin, construction finished == false
- 2. Slice Update, construction finished == false
- 3. Slice Update, construction finished == false
+    2. Slice Update, construction finished == false
+    3. Slice Update, construction finished == false
+
+ There is currently no code released that performs these steps. However,
+ there is code in development for Unity that causes this behavior. One of
+ the gesture stack developers will need to verify this bug is fixed.

  [Regression Potential]
- TBD
+ Small. The source code changes are minimal; a couple function calls are
reordered so they behave properly. The rest of the changes introduce a test
mock framework and a regression test for this issue. All previous functional
and regression tests cases continue to pass.

- A new regression test case has been added for this issue. All previous
- functional and regression test cases continue to pass.
+ Areas of concern for testing is whether gestures continue to operate
+ properly, and whether touchscreens become unresponsive after gestural or
+ pointer interactions.
