[Bug 1015015] Re: Xorg freezes once a day, mouse and SSH still works

2012-07-25 Thread Chris Polderman
The Xorg.log also the same as me (the stack trace bit)? The system has
been solid for me in the mean time.

I am running happily on (relevant bits fro uname -a):

3.2.0-27-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 6 14:25:57 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Chris

BTW: the /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state always says no error
state collected on my laptop.

[Bug 1017825] Re: USB IO excruciatingly slow on NTFS with dell xps15 laptop

2012-06-26 Thread Chris Polderman
Version of ntfs-3g is 1:2012.1.15AR.1-1ubuntu1 btw.

Also, I tried remounting the high speed NTFS as read-only, resulting in
a 5-10% improvement.

Sadly, I must conclude that NTFS is currently unusable for me.

Regards,

Chris

[Bug 1017825] [NEW] USB IO excruciatingly slow on NTFS with dell xps15 laptop

2012-06-26 Thread Chris Polderman
Public bug reported:

(might as well be generic kernel / usb / laptop tools related but i am
especially suspecting NTFS)

Yesterday I was transferring files from an NTFS volume using a high-
speed USB3 Samsung disk.

The transfer rate according to iostat would not go above 900kB/s (yes,
that's not even 1mB/s). The rates for the high speed device should be
over 90mB/s!

A couple of days ago I was using a plain USB memory stick and the
transfers were even worse. It mostly never got over that same rate as
the earlier device.

Running xubuntu 12.04 (output of lsb_release):

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

Some syslog logs when mounting the devices:

[Bug 1015015] Re: Xorg freezes once a day, mouse and SSH still works

2012-06-25 Thread Chris Polderman
I am declaring this bug as solved.

It has been stable for the entire last week (8h/day developing and
keeping it in suspend mode going home).

Thanks!

Chris

2012-06-21 Thread Chris Polderman
After enabling the -proposed repo experienced 1,5 day without hangup.

I will test it for some more days. If everything seems stable, I will
report back!

[Bug 1015015] [NEW] Xorg freezes once a day, mouse and SSH still works

2012-06-19 Thread Chris Polderman
Public bug reported:

About once a day, Xorg freezes on me. Running Xubuntu 12.04 on a dell
L502X laptop.

The mouse is still moveable and I am able to SSH into the laptop but
suspend/resume or using ctrl-alt-F1 and ctrl-alt-F7 does not work
anymore.

I use the acpi_call module to disable the second GPU (nVidia) as it cuts
down the fan noise and saves energy/battery.

I had hopes the 3.2.0-25-generic kernel would bring a fix to this (see
bug 975689) but it keeps occurring. Incidentally but regularly (about
once every 1-2 days).

The Xorg.0.log shows:

existing events are processed.

[Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-05-11 Thread Chris Polderman
I have encountered this one once more even though i had added the
workaround to the X session start sequence.

As I suspect that the GPU is completely reinitialized when suspending (I
do that a lot), I have now added it to the sleep/suspend sequence:

/etc/pm/sleep.d/20_intel_workaround
(do not forget to make it executable)
--

#!/bin/sh

case $1 in
  hibernate|suspend) echo Intel workaround;;
  resume|thaw)   intel_reg_write 0x2120 0x1206800;;
esac

[Bug 975689] Re: X freezes completely running google earth on xserver-xorg-video-intel - IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2012-05-07 Thread Chris Polderman
I am currently testing with the following every time I start X:

sudo intel_reg_write 0x2120 0x1206800

(intel_reg_write is located in the intel_gpu_tools package)

Workaround is mentioned in
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47535

Curious if it fixes it as this bug is really bugging me :)

[Bug 632228] [NEW] Dell latitude e6510 fan not detected (gets hot)

2010-09-07 Thread Chris Polderman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: acpi

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 64bit I tried to monitor the fans by
doing:

$ sensors-detect

The output contained:

Trying family `SMSC'... Yes
Found unknown chip with ID 0x4b00
Probing for Super-I/O at 0x4e/0x4f

Viewing the /proc/acpi/fan:

ch...@chris-laptop:/proc/acpi/fan$ ls -lsa
total 0
0 dr-xr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2010-09-07 09:58 .
0 dr-xr-xr-x 11 root root 0 2010-09-07 07:37 ..
ch...@chris-laptop:/proc/acpi/fan$

I am afraid my laptop will die on me sometime in the future as it gets
quite hot without doing anything special.

[Bug 379780] Re: High cpu usage after upgrade to 141-1.1

2009-11-15 Thread Chris Polderman
Apparently, inserting a CDROM into the cd drive fixes this issue for me.
The cpu drops to 2-4% when I do this (even an empty DVD-R will do the
trick).

After ejecting it, the CPU will go back to 20-40%.

Can I submit anything to enable someone to find a fix?

[Bug 134660] Re: Ralink rt2400 / rt2500 / rt2570 / rt61 / rt73 do not work out of the box in Gutsy/Hardy

2008-02-06 Thread Chris Polderman
Same here for me:

uname -a:
Linux laptop 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 31 23:33:13 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux

lspci -v:
06:00.0 Network controller: RaLink RT2500 802.11g Cardbus/mini-PCI (rev 01)
Subsystem: Belkin F5D7000 Wireless G Desktop Network Card
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 17
Memory at 6400 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2

It slows down the connection after reassociating at 54 mbit/s
considerably. Otherwise it runs ok.

Do I understand the discussion above correctly that the next kernel will
break my connectivity?

Regards,

Chris
