Same here. Backing up over samba share. Deja-Dup is completely
unuseable, using Ubuntu 14.10 and Arch Linux (Deja-Dup 32.0, duplicity
6.5 and 7.0).

While it workarounds the issue temporarily, it should be solved in the package.
There are two options for Ubuntu:
* pre-fill the field in the libreoffice package with thunderbird
(Ubuntu-centric)
* add a link /usr/bin/sensible-louma which points to /usr/bin/thunderbird
I'd prefer the second
