[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2019-03-07 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Or as one user posted, the official AMDGPU Pro package, which also
enables 10bpc.

[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2019-03-07 Thread Christopher Snowhill
This bug can only occur if 10bpc is enabled. There is no other
possibility. It is clearly a colorspace mismatch between VAAPI and the
decode target surface. If disabling 10bpc happens in Ubuntu Mesa
packages, then it is clearly someone using unofficial package builds of
Mesa which have 10bpc enabled on supporting hardware.

[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2019-03-06 Thread Christopher Snowhill
As already stated above, the correct workaround, for now, is to
configure a drirc (probably in a conf.d directory, so it doesn't clash
with other settings files) so as to disable 10 bit per channel support
for Totem. The same had to be done with Chromium-vaapi, as it also
happens with that solution.

I wouldn’t exactly consider Google Drive “friendly”, but I guess most
users don’t have 10+TB of data stored on premises. That much runs for a
minimum of $99/mo on Google One.

[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2018-12-16 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Adding a comment to indicate that this is a problem with the 10bpc
support which is enabled in Radeon graphics. I am unsure if it is
enabled in Intel's drivers, so that would explain why it does not occur
there. Either VA-API is outputting wrong, the client library is
outputting wrong, or all the player applications are wrong. Something
appears to be matching the buffers to each other without a conversion,
simply because both RGBA32 and RGBA10-10-10-2 have the same number of
bytes per pixel, but clearly completely different structure.

A workaround is to add the following to the //driconf/device section of
/etc/drirc:

Clearly, this workaround should not be the only way, since someone in
the processing chain clearly wants 10bpc support, and some applications
can benefit from it, somehow.

I have determined this to be a lack of input overrides in the udev

following in my /etc/udev/hwdb.d/90-apple-keyboard.hwdb, which I'll
attach. It may or may not be accurate for all Apple keyboards.

[Bug 1806543] [NEW] Plasma Desktop on multimonitor setup asks to reconfigure desktop layout on every login

2018-12-03 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Public bug reported:

Every time I log into my desktop, the desktop layout picker box pops
open on the screen, and asks me to pick a layout again. It never
remembers what I pick between log out and log in cycles. It also
completely forgets the refresh rate settings I picked the last time I
was logged in. This is particularly annoying on my other video card, a
Radeon RX 480, because with that card, the two monitors are swapped in
the layout and need to be re-swapped again, every time.

I noticed someone else on AskUbuntu who had this same problem, but
neglected to file a bug report upstream, and instead resorted to the
"fix" of downgrading their machine to Kubuntu 18.04.1, where the issue
does not occur. Somehow, this also fixes their machine's handling of the
Ryzen C6 state deadlock bug, presumably because it may only be a kernel
4.18 issue.

I expected the desktop layout popup to occur on first login only, or on
monitor plug or unplug while logged in, and for it to remember my
settings on log out and subsequent log in.

Instead, it asks for my monitor layout every time I log in, and forgets
my refresh rate override for my primary monitor, which I reset to 120Hz,
even though xrandr recommends 60Hz for some strange reason.

[Bug 1806321] [NEW] Multimedia play/pause, skip forward, skip back keys not working

2018-12-02 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Public bug reported:

Ever since I recently installed Kubuntu 18.10, using debootstrap and
`apt install kubuntu-desktop` method, upon reaching a desktop, the
multimedia keys on my Apple Wireless Keyboard do not have any effect on
anything.

The F3/Exposé key correctly triggers the window display mode, F10/Mute
toggles the sound mute, F11 and F12 correctly adjust the master volume
level.

F7, F8, and F9 have no multimedia control effect. Running `sudo showkey
-k` shows keycodes 165, 164, and 163 for the three keys, respectively.
`xev` does not report any media key activity for any of those three
keys, just focus in/out events on key down or up.

[Bug 1791559] [NEW] Spurious reboot notifications caused by libssl upgrades.

[Bug 1767312] Re: [radeon] Totem with gstreamer1.0-vaapi and Xorg: wrong color on H264 videos

2018-08-29 Thread Christopher Snowhill
I only thought to mention the PPA to indicate that the bug still occurs
even in fairly bleeding edge Mesa code. I also still think it's either
something wrong with gstreamer-vaapi, or something that gstreamer-vaapi
is doing different from what mpv does for the same exact video. It
should probably be reported to upstream Mesa, just in case it really is
their bug.

[Bug 1789523] [NEW] The ssh-agent launcher script fails to relaunch ssh-agent

2018-08-28 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Public bug reported:

There is an issue with the Xsession, in which logging out and logging
back in again does not clear environment variables, so the ssh-agent
script thinks that the agent is already running, and thus does not
bother to start it again.

I have altered the script, albeit in not the most pretty way, to detect
if the agent is already running, and if not, force a restart.

[Bug 1788083] [NEW] Kleopatra won't let me set imported private key as "mine"

2018-08-20 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Public bug reported:

The "Change certification trust" option is grayed out for the OpenPGP
key I imported from an encrypted export from another system. It may also
be listing it as "not certified" because one of the User-IDs assigned to
it has been revoked, because I discarded that domain.

Description:Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Release:18.04

kleopatra:
  Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I expect it to allow me to certify the key as my own private key.

The certification option is grayed out only for that certificate.

** Affects: kleopatra (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Package changed: kdepim (Ubuntu) => kleopatra (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1787699] [NEW] libsdl2-dev depends on libwayland-egl1, which forces removal of libwayland-egl1-mesa

[Bug 1768562] Re: calling "xscreensaver-command -deactivate" every 20 seconds

2018-08-08 Thread Christopher Snowhill
I just figured out what it was. It wasn't the Xorg update that fixed it.
It was the Anbox container sending wake up notices to the screen saver:

```
Aug 07 22:55:01 dorktower dbus-daemon[8808]: apparmor="ALLOWED"
operation="dbus_method_call"  bus="session" path="/org/gnome/ScreenSaver"
interface="org.gnome.ScreenSaver" member="SimulateUserActivity" mask="send"
name="org.gnome.ScreenSaver" pid=27881 label="snap.anbox.appmgr" peer_pid=8965
peer_label="unconfined"
```

So, if you have this problem again, please be sure to check your
`journalctl -xe` for SimulatedUserActivity notices, so you can figure
out what's sending that crap and deactivating your screen saver.

I just installed an Xorg and input and display drivers update,
apparently phased to 40% of users, and that seems to have fixed it?

[Bug 1768562] Re: calling "xscreensaver-command -deactivate" every 20 seconds

2018-08-06 Thread Christopher Snowhill
This also appears to occur with a fresh installation of Ubuntu 18.04.1
with the default Gnome desktop. It is waking my displays every twenty
seconds as well. The only power related things that appear to be running
are two instances of gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-power, one for the gdm
user and one for my user.

[Bug 1768562] Re: calling "xscreensaver-command -deactivate" every 20 seconds

2018-08-06 Thread Christopher Snowhill
I see that I don’t even have XScreenSaver installed here, so it’s some
other power configuration that’s causing the spurious wake ups.

[Bug 1726262] Re: 17.10 - flickering overlay patterns in gnome-terminal

2018-08-04 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Confirming that this issue does occur with Ubuntu 18.04.1, i7 3770, with
AMD Radeon RX 480, using AMDGPU. I'm also using the kernel ppa 4.17 from
June 4th, so I can keep AMDGPU DC enabled and use my primary monitor's
DVI-D dual link connection to support 120Hz refresh rate.

I can also confirm that unchecking "Use transparency from system theme",
checking "Use transparent background", and re-checking "Use transparency
from system theme", results in a stable background. Perhaps "Use
transparent background" should check itself if the system theme employs
transparency?

[Bug 1624844] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 breaks boot with wrong zpool.cache

2016-12-25 Thread Christopher Snowhill
This is now occurring for me with latest as of this post, as of
shuffling around the drives in my system, including the addition of
another drive. I may need to delete the zfs cache, if that's possible.

[Bug 1518457] Re: kswapd0 100% CPU usage

2016-08-02 Thread Christopher Snowhill
Is this known to affect paravirtualized instances, or is it restricted
to hvm? Can anyone tell me what conditions I need to create this in a
fresh instance? I'll spin up a PV t2.nano and see if I can reproduce it
there.
