[Bug 86685] Re: trac BROKEN on AMD64: neo_cgi.so: undefined symbol: Py_InitModule4
Dear James Westby, Dear Ubuntu hacker, I am sorry not to understand as well as you do the in's and out's of https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates, so can I ask you to confirm, please, that I've understood things correctly ? My understanding #1: Hardy won't receive any new simple patch if it is not related to a high impact bug. My understanding #2: Same things stand for Intrepid, Jaunty and Karmic. My understanding #3: Ubuntu hackers (like James Westby) have already a lot of work and cannot cope with supplementary tasks like doing more fixes than authorized by the policy pointed earlier (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) My understanding #4: This policy uses the safety standpoint as an official argument not to allow you to maintain a high quality level for a release version like the Hardy LTS one. My understanding #5: Distributions like Debian have already managed to fix this bug (which is not related to a high impact flaw) because they do not have that policy. My understanding #6: LTS means Long Term Support for High Impact Problems (HIPs) only, not Other Annoying Flaws (OAFs). My understanding #7: This bug (#86685) is not a high impact bug. I hope I expressed myself clearly enough not to prevent you from understanding my underlying ideas. Thank you by advance to take the time required to explain me things clearly. [Bug 115309] Re: [needs-packaging] globs - GL Open Benchmark Suite
I too think that Ubuntu must provide high quality benchmarking tools without relying _only_ on commercial products running atop Wine. In fact, one of the first things people do when testing a new version of Windows is launching a game and see how smooth it runs. Journalists and gamers even use 3DMark and the likes to capture the smoothness into numbers. I know 3DMark runs well under Wine, but it is DirectX based. [Bug 350140] Re: Ubuntu did not detect my SB Audigy (SB0090) sound card
In order to prove that the issue is not related to sound at all, I tested the same two setups with a PCI network card. I am attaching the results (lspci, lspci -v, and dmesg) below. The NIC is detected in the upper slot, but not in the bottom slot, the same as the sound card. To reiterate: PCI cards plugged into the bottom slot are not detected by Ubuntu. PCI cards plugged into the slot above the bottom slot are detected. The slot is not bad because the cards work in other operating systems. The issue is NOT specific to a sound card. I will change the title of the bug report. It takes quite a while to shutdown, swap cards, reboot, etc., so I'll wait a little while to see what other logs I should get next time. [Bug 350140] Re: Ubuntu did not detect my SB Audigy (SB0090) sound card
I found a related Ubuntu question (which I have attached to this bug) where the author suggested moving the card to another slot. I tried this, and the card was detected and plays sound. Hurrah! However, I know that the original slot is not bad because the card works in Windows. Therefore, there seems to be a problem with Ubuntu being able to find the card on that slot. Although my personal issue has been resolved, I am leaving the bug open because the root cause has not been fixed. I am willing to help diagnose why Ubuntu can't find the card on the original slot. There may be other people who need both slots. For what it's worth, the slot that does not work is at the bottom of the motherboard. [Bug 350140] [NEW] Ubuntu did not detect my SB Audigy (SB0090) sound card
Public bug reported: Ubuntu is unable to detect my PCI SB Audigy (SB0090) sound card. aplay and lspci fail to report it. I would expect lspci to report it before I have any hope of getting it to work with alsa. I tried following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting but it seems to give up if lspci fails to find the card, and recommends submitting a bug. I am positive it is this card because I have physically taken it out of the case and inspected it. The markings say: Model SB0090 Sound Blaster Audigy SB1394 EAX AdvancedHD Creative Audigy CA0100-1AF [1s are possibly ls] Creative Tech'01 1AA1RHJ It is firmly seated, and definitely works. I played music from Windows XP a few nights ago. Let me know if the following information is not enough to diagnose. Details that may be relevant: I installed Ubuntu via internet installation (text mode). I have additional onboard sound, but it is disabled in the bios. My motherboard is a Gigabyte K8N Ultra-9. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 8.10 Release:8.10 $ aplay -l aplay: device_list:215: no soundcards found... $ alsamixer No mixer elems found $ lspci 00:00.0 Memory controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 Memory Controller (rev a3) 00:01.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 ISA Bridge (rev a3) 00:01.1 SMBus: nVidia Corporation CK804 SMBus (rev a2) 00:02.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 USB Controller (rev a2) 00:02.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 USB Controller (rev a3) 00:06.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation CK804 IDE (rev f2) 00:07.0 RAID bus controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 Serial ATA Controller (rev f3) 00:08.0 RAID bus controller: nVidia Corporation CK804 Serial ATA Controller (rev f3) 00:09.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCI Bridge (rev a2) 00:0a.0 Bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 Ethernet Controller (rev a3) 00:0c.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge (rev a3) 00:0d.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge (rev a3) 00:0e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation CK804 PCIE Bridge (rev a3) 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control 01:09.0 Mass storage controller: Silicon Image, Inc. [Bug 77734] Re: Disk Read Errors during boot-time caused by probe of invalid partitions
I don't exactly follow all of the above discussion, but I am attaching my dmesg which I believe to be a manifestation of this bug (although i found this bug through bug #329880). See errors around 6.114387, 6.821079, 27.105417, and 37.177262. dmraid is all set up correctly, so once the system is booted, I can access the raid through /dev/mapper/. My sda-sdd are drives that are set up in a 1+0 raid using the nvidia raid on my motherboard. I boot to /dev/sde1 which is not part of a raid. If I can supply any more information or do any testing, please let me know. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 ** Attachment added: dmesg.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24446379/dmesg.txt -- Disk Read Errors during boot-time caused by probe of invalid partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 350151] Re: unicode characters not shown for files in trash
I tried reproducing this bug, but could not. Could you please provide some more information? What versions of Ubuntu, nautilus, etc., and how exactly are you deleting the file would be a good start. Also, do you have any special gnome settings? Any special X packages? What is your localization set to? I have compiled many kernels on other linux systems, but never in Ubuntu. [Bug 77734] Re: Disk Read Errors during boot-time caused by probe of invalid partitions
I've compiled 2.6.29 from git, and I have attached my new dmesg. For whatever reason, the new kernel places my boot drive at sda, and the raid drives are now sdb, sdc, sdd, sde. Relevant messages seem to start around 10.132601. There are definitely many fewer messages, but it still says things like sdc: unknown partition table and sdd: p1 size 1250258562 limited to end of disk. It really freaks me out that it says write protect is off for those drives. It's not actually writing to those drives, is it? ** Attachment added: dmesg.2.6.29.txt http://launchpadlibrarian.net/24469286/dmesg.2.6.29.txt -- Disk Read Errors during boot-time caused by probe of invalid partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77734 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 86685] Re: trac BROKEN on AMD64: neo_cgi.so: undefined symbol: Py_InitModule4
The bug is still present in Hardy (8.04) completely up to date (on 23rd of march 2009). Python 2.5.2-0ubuntu1 Trac 0.10.4-2 Python-clearsilver 0.10.4-1ubuntu1 This is flooding my apache2/error.log ! Is there a way to see the fix arrive in hardy-i386 ? Note: the bug's been open on 2007-02-21 and we are 2009-02-23, which is 2 years 1 month 2 days later ! [Bug 48682] Re: adept doesn't work behind a proxy server
Gianfranco, First, environment variables do not support proxy exceptions. Those are hosts which must not be reached through the proxy but through direct connection. Second, I can't work using environment variables as this would require to logout/login which is not allowed in my case. In fact, I use GNU/Linux as it avoids those painfull reboots and logout/login which are a not negligible part of other OSes users' lives. Ancoron, I agree with you. Maybe the solution is a fake-proxy-relay ? It would be installed by default under [K]ubuntu and which would be the single point of configuration where to set the real proxy configuration. Then any package would be preconfigured to use it as its proxy, without having to keep the settings up to date across the applications. -- adept doesn't work behind a proxy server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 244261] Re: Locking assertion failure libxcb-xlib.so.0 xcb_xlib_unlock
Problem still present in Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS with latest updates on 2009-01-13. I can confirm this is not directly related to recordmydesktop, to the -channel 2 option shouldn't have any impact. It occurs in other situations such as when running a Java application relying on the AWT. This is a bug is in the lib. -- Locking assertion failure libxcb-xlib.so.0 xcb_xlib_unlock https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/244261 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 48682] Re: adept doesn't work behind a proxy server
I confirm this bug in Hardy LTS 8.04.1 with latest updates on 2009-01-13. This is a bug and not a feature as the Proxy configuration page resides in the Internet Network category. Nothing warns me that the modification will be spread on a so narrow range of applications. I have to separately configure Firefox, apt-get/adept and all the other ones. A common way to configure browsers is to provide a javascript script in a file with extension .pac (meaning Proxy Auto Configuration) and providing a single function called FindProxyForURL(url, host) to determine whether direct access or a proxy should be used. Why doesn't Kubuntu/Ubuntu provide such a script refering to the KDE Proxy configuration. This script would be pre-configured into Firefox, adept, ... and for applications which do not support PAC, why not implement this support as a new feature ? What a valuable contribution of Kubuntu/Ubuntu to the original mainstream projects it depends on ! This would, by the way, solve another annoyance : proxy exceptions are a pain to handle when a new lan host has to be manually added to firefox, kde, eclipse, ... Finally, to be able to say Ubuntu is easier to use than OS x, squash Ubuntu's deficiencies and add X's advantages ! Here X is Microsoft Windows and the advantage is the single point for proxy configuration. -- adept doesn't work behind a proxy server https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
