[Bug 1942684] Re: Kernel 5.14.X / 5.13.14 fails to boot

2022-02-22 Thread Claus Lensbøl
Had a similar issue on a 20.04 install today after updating to 5.14.

Woke it up from suspend on 5.10.0-1057-oem. Rebooted once (some screen
issues that turned out to be the screen), installed updates via update-
manager, rebooted using the new 5.14.0-1024-oem kernel and it just hung.
Black screen, blinking cursor.

I noticed that the lenovo splash screen did not come up after selecting
the 5.14 kernel in grub. It does with 5.10.

Going back to 5.10 works as before. I have a kern.log saved from the
before and after the update, but do I need to make sure it is sanitized
for secure boot keys and such?

Also, it should be noted that it is a dual GPU system with an intel and
nvidia.

Yes. I changed my NVMe slot. But the change
'nvme_core.default_ps_max_latency_us=5500' has proven stable on both
slots.

2020-12-05 Thread Claus Ar.
Public bug reported:

Installed Ubunutu 20.04 on a fresh machine, ASRock b450 Pro4 with a Kingston
A2000 1TB PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 2280 in the M.2 Ultra slot. Randomly, got
freezes with only cursor moving on screen and after a few minutes i'd get a
black screen with errors, EXT4-fs error (device nvme0n1p2): _ext4_find_entry:
1531 and Failed to write entry, ignoring: Read-only file system. (attached
photo)
I am a fresh Ubuntu user, not really tech savy, help would be greatly
appreciated.

[Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails with Could not configure 'libc6:i386'. , E:Could not perform immediate configuration on 'libgcc-s1:i386'

2020-09-26 Thread Claus Appel
I have a similar problem. For me the Ubuntu 20.04 installer would
consistently crash at 90% (regardless of which hard drive I installed it
to). When I followed the instructions to report the bug, it led me here.

I was able to circumvent the problem by choosing "minimal installation"
and NOT "download updates while installing". That made the installation
succeed.

It might be caused by bad hardware on my system. I don't know.

[Bug 1886639] [NEW] 1881466

2020-07-07 Thread Claus Neumayer
Public bug reported:

Hi Leonidas,

some times ago that I reported this issue.

The problem is to push a jpeg from Google drive into gimp. When I copy
the jpeg from google drive to my /home directory and open this in Gimp
I have no problem. There is no problem with jpeg file the error occurs
during the push action.

Today I reproduced again with the result below (the reported issue in
German "Speicherzugriffsfehler" means there is a problem to handle the
memory)

I am not sure if this addtional information is helpful for you?

Cheers,

Claus

[Bug 1746806] Re: sssd appears to crash AWS c5 and m5 instances, cause 100% CPU

2018-04-05 Thread Claus Stovgaard
I can confirm the suspicion for this issue to relate to Meltdown/Spectre
patching.

Running an Ubuntu 16.04 desktop in a virtual machine (VMware Workstation
12.5.9) on top of Windows 7.
The hardware is a Dell T1700 with an i7-4770, and it seems the issue arose
after BIOS and Microcode update.

[Bug 1695068] [NEW] evolution 3.22.6-1ubuntu1 should conflict with evolution-indicator 0.2.20-0ubuntu28

2017-06-01 Thread Christoph Claus
Public bug reported:

Hi,

since the update to Ubuntu 17.04 evolution crashes most times having
fetched new mail (segfault). Evolution also crashes trying to disable
the plugin evolution-indicator. After uninstalling the package
evolution-indicator everything's back to normal.

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System ->
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 17.04
Release:17.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
evolution 3.22.6-1ubuntu1
evolution-indicator 0.2.20-0ubuntu28

3) What you expected to happen
I expect the package evolution to force deinstall of evolution-indicator upon
upgrade to 17.04.

4) What happened instead
Both were installed on my system.

Best regards,
Christoph

[Bug 1617919] Re: mdadm segfault error 4 in libc-2.23.so

2016-11-03 Thread claus
I just got the following feedback from Stéphane Graber (LXC and LXD
project leader):

"It's not a bug for it to be installed as the Ubuntu image we run is bit
for bit identical to what's run on the cloud or on physical servers and
that's on purpose.

mdadm is supposed to be configured in a way that it won't actually start
in a container, if it does, that's a bug.

I suspect the issue here is that the cronjob wasn't made aware that
mdadm doesn't run in a container and so attempts to run despite mdadm
being stopped and it not having any access to the devices it needs."

[Bug 1617919] Re: mdadm segfault error 4 in libc-2.23.so

2016-11-03 Thread claus
Ok, I think I made some progress tracking this thing down:
On the host, where I experienced the bug, I have an LXD/LXC container running.
It turns out that mdadm is installed by default inside a container created by
"lxc launch ubunut:16.04 c1"
And when I call /etc/cron.daily/mdadm inside the container I get the segfault
which is also logged in the host system.
So I think there are two bugs here:
a) mdadm should not segfault
b) mdadm should not be in the container by default (makes no sense, right?) For
this part I think a separate bug should be filed somewhere, but I have no clue
where this should be put?

[Bug 1574052] Re: titlesec does not render section numbers

2016-10-14 Thread claus
Hi,

I'm also affected. As I work on a collaborative document where I cannot just
change the basic document to make workarounds this bug is really a show stopper
for me.
Could a maintainer please
 * change importance to medium or more?
 * give some information on why the newer version of titlesec cannot be
packaged? I read "The issue has been solved with titlesec version 2.10.2
(released 2016/03/21)" at
http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/299969/titlesec-loss-of-section-numbering-with-the-new-update-2016-03-15?
Thanks for your help!

[Bug 1567884] Re: package mysql-server-5.7 5.7.11-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-04-08 Thread claus
I had a similar (or the same error) today. I found this in my syslog:

Apr 8 18:51:25 mail mysqld[30197]: 2016-04-08T16:51:25.015211Z 0 [ERROR]
unknown variable 'myisam-recover=BACKUP'
Apr 8 18:51:25 mail mysqld[30197]: 2016-04-08T16:51:25.015314Z 0 [ERROR]
Aborting

And an older message:
Apr 8 18:45:01 mail mysqld: 2016-04-08 18:45:01 28781 [Warning] Using unique
option prefix myisam-recover instead of myisam-recover-options is deprecated
and will be removed in a future release. Please use the
full name instead.

For me disabling the line "myisam-recover=..." in
/etc/mysql/mysql.conf.d/mysqld.cnf and rerunning apt-get upgrade fixed the
problem.
HTH

[Bug 1534536] [NEW] Firefox crashes randomly on X_GLXDestroyPixmap (nvidia)

2016-01-15 Thread Claus Lensbøl
Public bug reported:

I am guessing it is mostly on JS intensive sites (like facebook), and it
has happened a lot within the last 24 hours, although the firefox
package was updated 5 days ago.

[Bug 1517983] [NEW] Attempt to unlock mutex that was not locked, Or: Do not release the GDK lock if it hasn't been acquired yet

2015-11-19 Thread Claus Strasburger
Public bug reported:

In trusty, gtk+2.0 is currently on version 2.24.23-0ubuntu.

The commit specified here[1] fixes a bug where using libgtk+2.0 in an
unidiomatic manner leads to a SIGABRT when starting the app.
I know that unidiomatic behaviour is not supported per-se, but there are a
whole bunch of "legacy" apps that are hard to update. Examples include IntelliJ
IDEA, OpenXenManager, and numerous others.

Is there a chance of getting libgtk+2 updated to a version that in includes
[1], or getting that commit backported to trusty?
The fix seems to have landed in upstream[2] and utopic[3], but not in trusty.

Thanks,
Claus Strasburger

[Bug 1292113] Re: CTRL+ALT+T - shortcut to open Terminal is does not work

2015-08-24 Thread Claus Lensbøl
So this is weird. When I do aliases in my ~/.zshrc this bug occurs, but
removing the aliases will get the terminal shortcut back...

Aliases that breaks things for me:
alias dokku='$HOME/.dokku/contrib/dokku_client.sh'
alias fpm='firefox --ProfileManager'

I have no clue as to why these issues are connected.

2014-08-01 Thread Claus Allweil
OK, I get it work now. The 14.04 kernel is missing the firmware for the
bluetooth hardware.

I have downloaded the firmware, renamed and copied it appropriately and
now bluetooth is working:

wget
http://wielki.tk/vostro/debs/bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+2016somerville2_amd64.deb

dpkg-deb -x bt-bcm43142-onereic_0.0+2016somerville2_amd64.deb bt-bcm43142

sudo cp bt-bcm43142/lib/firmware/BCM43142A0_001.001.011.0028.0036.hcd
/lib/firmware/fw-105b_e065.hcd

sudo rmmod btusb

sudo modprobe btusb

[Bug 1292398] Re: multi-monitor : second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2014-07-03 Thread claus
It seems to me, that the problem is related to the setting of the primary
display in the monitors.xml. Everything works fine unless I move the primary to
a display, other than the very left.
My setup is a three monitor setup. Primary on the left display works. If I move
primary to the center, than the center screen is moved to the left on the next
login.

[Bug 1335106] [NEW] Could not parse server response

2014-06-27 Thread Claus Holm Christensen
Public bug reported:

Authentication fails due to incorrectly parsed server response.

I tried to use libpam-yubico to login with the hardware token YubiKey, but
access is denied. The error message from the log is:
[../pam_yubico.c:pam_sm_authenticate(985)] ykclient return value (101): Could
 not parse server response

And the fix is described in this upstream discussion:
https://code.google.com/p/yubico-c-client/issues/detail?id=2. The fix
is also included in the next software release, so a backport might be a
good idea.

I'm unsure what else will be included in the bug report, but I'm running this
OS:
Description:Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

[Bug 1309875] [NEW] Touchpad not recognized after upgrade 13.10-14.04

2014-04-19 Thread Claus Lensbøl
Public bug reported:

I'm not perfectly sure the problem lies here, but after reading several
arch linux bug repports that points towards a kernel issue, I'm
reporting it here.

After upgrading my HP Folio 9470m from 13.10 to 14.04 I no longer have a
working touchpad.
As far as I can tell it gets recognized as a generic mouse, from xinput:

⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointerid=4[slave pointer (2)]
⎜ ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouseid=11 [slave pointer (2)]
⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)]
↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Power Button id=6[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ Sleep Button id=8[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HP HD Webcam [Fixed] id=9[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=10 [slave keyboard (3)]
↳ HP WMI hotkeysid=12 [slave keyboard (3)]

From dmesg | grep -i touch:
[ 12.334048] psmouse serio1: alps: Unknown ALPS touchpad: E7=10 00 64, EC=10
00 64

It should be pointed out that i ran a couple of days in prerelease (from
the 12th iirc) with no problems. It is only after the official release I
have had this issue.

[Bug 366780] Re: Please provide a mechanism whereby Wi-Fi networks can be prioritized

As far as i know OSX has a list where you can drag-n-drop networks. The
closer to the top, the higer the priority. The suggestion from #20
sounds good though.

[Bug 1174240] [NEW] Authorization dialog pops up if wifi network disappears

2013-04-29 Thread Claus H
Public bug reported:

Network-manager is set up to auto-connect to wireless network
(wpa/shared key). This works as expected.

If the network shuts down (just turn off the access-point), after a
couple of minutes, network-manager pops up an Authorization required by
wireless network dialog for the network that was just shut down.

This does not make any sense. It is not possible to authorize and
connect to a not existing network ;-)

To make things worse. If the network comes back up (turn on the access
point again), network-manager WILL connect again, as it should. But the
dialog does not disapear.

We are using Ubuntu for a digital signage application. So if the wifi
network is flaky, the pop-up will emerge. And even if a connection is
made later, the pop-up will still be there in the middle of the screen.

Expected behaviour:
 - Do not pop-up an authorization-dialog for a disapearing connection.

Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop i386
Various hardware.

[Bug 960005] Re: Intel GPU lockup on laptop suspend - display stuck on whatever was shown last before suspend.

2012-04-19 Thread Christoph Claus
Some things to add:
* I suspend at least daily, this strikes me on one out of five resumes.
* I have never experienced any lockups on resume on this machine (installed
around maverick) until upgrade to precise alpha, so this is a regression for
precise.
* killing gnome-session respawns a functional (non-locked) lightdm

[Bug 960005] Re: Intel GPU lockup on laptop suspend

2012-04-17 Thread Christoph Claus
The bug affects me too. Killing compiz as you requested didn't really
fix the issue. X was updated again, but unity/compiz did not restart.
Manually restarting unity/compiz (DISPLAY=:0.0 compiz from tty1) re-
freezed X, which could subsequently not be unfrozen by killing compiz.
Let me know how I can help you further debugging this issue.

[Bug 979078] [NEW] powertop segfaults when on battery, echos weird escape-strings

2012-04-11 Thread Claus Strasburger
Public bug reported:

when i try to start powertop-1.97-2 while running on AC power, it works like a
charm.
once i unplug the AC or start it while being on battery, powertop crashes and
bugs the terminal by sending weird escape strings.

$ sudo /usr/sbin/powertop  tmp 21; less tmp

it previously said it could not load saved_results saved_parameters,
$ sudo touch /var/cache/powertop/saved_results.powertop

[Bug 751689] Re: ThinkPads overheat due to slow fans when on 'auto'

2012-04-10 Thread Claus Lensbøl
I can confirm this with a T60. I reinstalled from 11.04 - 12.04 today, and I
have not had these issues before.
Using thinkfan, I'm getting around 3700 RPM, and between 60-8* degrees, which
keeps me running.

[Bug 976713] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup with apport-gpu-erro: page allocation failure

2012-04-10 Thread Claus Strasburger
Update:
I enabled rc6 again, ALPM too.

Everything runs fine (my battery is a bit more happy) so far.

But: apport-gpu-error keeps popping up and wants to report the same error (but
nothing seems to be wrong to me).
Is there some cache I have to clean?

[Bug 976713] [NEW] [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup

2012-04-08 Thread Claus Strasburger
Public bug reported:

There might be two causes of this bug:
- I had S-ATA ALPM activated and high IO activity (unTarring a system backup)
- My screen started flickering upon opening Google MapsGL, but the GPU seemed
to be hanging before that.

I added i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 to my cmdline now, and it seems to be
working fine (but rc6 was the whole reason for upgrading to precise)

and I can no longer duplicate it under any kernal release in the last 18
months or more.

claus...@foundtechnologies.com, thank you for reporting this and
helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release?
 If
so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD
images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a
 supported release from a Terminal
 (Applications-Accessories-Terminal).
It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to
 this report.

 apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that
 would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
 results.

 Thanks in advance.

2012-04-04 Thread Claus Strasburger
Just a final question:
I am running Linux Mint 12, which is still on Oneiric.
Is this final fix embedded in any upstream kernel.org version and if so, at
which version?
Is the fix somewhere in http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ ?
How do i get a kernel for other distro's (e.g. Debian/Arch)?

[Bug 953089] Re: Unity 5.6: key bindings (such as Super) don't work on empty workspace or on slow/loaded systems

2012-03-18 Thread Claus
I just tried to adjust a few values inside LauncherController.cpp - the
ones commented out being the old values

  const int super_tap_duration = 450; //250
  const int launcher_minimum_show_duration = 1450; //1250
  const int shortcuts_show_delay = 950; //750
  const int ignore_repeat_shortcut_duration = 450; //250

I really don't know what I'm doing. However, I think this actually made
the super button work much better on my slow Samsung N150P. But it seems
like the success-rate is inverse proportional with the load of the
netbook. E.g. starting a few background programs like firefox/youtube,
makes the superbutton 'unbound' again.

[Bug 811993] Re: Google contacts can not sync (update | commit): Cannot authenticate user: Invalid query

2011-12-22 Thread Claus Weiniger
** Description changed:

I can not sync with my Google contacts. I added a new address book and
selected Google. I added my credentials.
First it did not load any contact. But after a while it loaded a few (96) of
several hundreds and prompted a new error message. Unfortunately only partially
in English. Note that I have not changed anything between the two messages.

The first error message was: Suche konnte nicht durchgeführt werden. Diese
Abfrage konnte nicht erfolgreich ausgeführt werden. Authentication Required
The second message was Die Hintergrundkomponente für dieses Adressbuch
konnte die Syntax dieser Abfrage nicht analysieren. Invalid query

[Bug 764492] Re: Version outdated, follow up available in sid

2011-07-15 Thread Claus Tluk
Dear Iain,

thank you for telling me about this option. Unfortunatly, I am not
experienced in building packages myself. The most I've been doing so far
is to add additional repositories.

I also do not use pmx or m-tx and therefore I am not able to test those
programms.

It looks to me like I am not able to contribute significantly to the
next step in producing a backport.

Sorry,
  Claus
