Yes, it happened over the last 2 days and I update my system daily. I am no expert but I will try and attempt to perform what you have suggested and report back. Re: [Bug 1721346] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f84eb3cc
Hi, First of all, many thanks for all your help on this and such rapid response, you guys are just AWESOME :-) It looks like you have fixed it :-) I ran the command and updated dated the system again and rebooted. When I logged in, GNOME seemed to struggle and the menu bar reset (everything disappeared and came back again). It has has pushed me back onto the the NVIDIA 304.137 driver. I opened Chrome and closed it and it did not log me out this time but it did reset the screen. Also Ubuntu reported the error systemd 234-2ubuntu12 error so I uploaded that. I opened Chrome and closed it again and the second time did not reset the screen I switched to the Nouveau driver and rebooted and now there is no resetting or flickering of the screen when I login. I can close and resize Chrome without any issues whatsoever. Thank you so much. What I dont understand is what driver I am now using as it says Nouveau as I thought we removed it when I ran sudo apt purge xserver-xorg-video-nouveau? Re: [Bug 1721346] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at f84eb3cc
I have just updated to my system and no longer get a freeze after login but there is a delay after I open say Chrome browser and the GNOME interface seems to reset itself. If I try to un maximimise Chrome, it logs me out and I have to log in again. Just to clarify, I was using the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver. If I try using the NVIDIA legacy binary driver - version 304.137 driver, there is a massive delay and the system is unusable for about 2 minutes as the screen/gnome seems to be crashing. Once this is finished, the computer is then fine. I sometimes get a message that GNOME has crashed but there is not enough memory to produce a report. I am now back using the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau driver. I had the same problems described above using 17.04 but not 16.10. [Bug 1012291] Re: USB disconnect
Another update. I have deleted all the partitions. Created a 350GB EXT4 partition. Copied a 700MB file to it no problems. Tried copying the file back off the drive to the laptops drive and the problem re occures. Therefore, this bug is when it reads from the drive rather than writes to the drive. It also appears I need to do the following in order for the drive to stay mounted - sudo echo 5 /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/delay_use What is interesting is if I leave the drive on after it has this error and disappears off the USB Bus, I can hear the drivesounds like the heads are contractually trying to read the disk. How do I get someone to look at this list, I am sending in all the information I can! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1012291 Title: USB disconnect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1012291/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1093274] Re: Hitachi Touro Desk Pro Drive Disappears From USB Bus When Reading From The Drive
Just tried deleted the partitions in Linux, Loading Windows XP in Virtualbox, creating a NTFS under Windows XP and copying files within the virtual box Windows XP to and from the drive and then mounting the NTFS partition under Linux. I get the same problem as before as soon as I read from the drive. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093274 Title: Hitachi Touro Desk Pro Drive Disappears From USB Bus When Reading From The Drive To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gvfs/+bug/1093274/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1012291] Re: USB disconnect
Just tried - sudo echo 5 /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/delay_use and then sudo echo 10 /sys/module/usb_storage/parameters/delay_use But no difference. Copying a 915MB file from the external hard disk fails about 50% through the copy with the same problem.
[Bug 1012291] Re: USB disconnect
I have also tried blacklist ehci_hcd in the /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf file but still the same problem. I think this is affected other people (even Linus Torvalds himself!) but I cannot find a fix for this. [Bug 1012291] Re: USB disconnect
The above errors only appear when copying from the drive. I have just copied a 1.2GB drive to the external drive twice without a problem.
