[Bug 209417] [NEW] Hardy Countdown is useless for sites that can't use JavaScript

2008-03-30 Thread dj_peng
Public bug reported:

The Hardy countdown (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/countdown) is a
wonderful promotional tool for Ubuntu, except without a NOSCRIPT
option it is completely useless on any server that blocks JavaScript,
like WordPress.com blogs.

If you use the code on a site that blocks JavaScript the server will
simply delete the code, regardless of how many ways you try to trick the
server into accepting it.

In addition, not including a NOSCRIPT section in HTML code using the
SCRIPT tag is poor coding practice and should never be promoted.

2008-03-22 Thread DJ_Peng
The page reloaded because when you closed the top frame you changed from
a frames-based web page to a non-frames-based page. I marked your bug as
INVALID because the correct behavior in this instance is to load the
page without the frames and restart the video since it was in fact
loading the entire page again.

I take it you're running Firefox 3b4. It's been fixed in nightlies since
b4 came out and will be fixed in b5, which I should be out very soon. I
visited several pages on howtoforge.com with Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux
i686; en-US; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008032204 Minefield/3.0b5pre

No, you can do it from Nautilus or your favorite text editor. Although I
would make sure Pidgin is closed when you do it to ensure your changes
don't get overwritten. I don't think it's needed like it is in Windows,
but it's a good habit to get in to (not editing config files for
programs that are currently running).

I installed Hardy from the Alpha 5 ISO over the weekend and got bitten
by this bug, and the fix didn't come in an update after I rebooted into
my local Hardy install. I'm glad to see the workaround, and I've blogged
it with links to both this bug and the GNOME bug. Hopefully the next

[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4

2008-03-14 Thread DJ_Peng
Actually the email I saw about Hardy not being LTS was specifically for
the KDE versions. But if Hardy GNOME isn't LTS it makes even less sense
to put a beta in the final release. (Yes, I know they did it with Edgy
and I had problems with it then, too.) I don't mind betas being in the
repos, but Mozilla (like Ubuntu) is very specific that the testing
versions of Fx3 are not for general use. With it being in the release we
are ignoring their caveat and making people opt out, rather than opt in.
Thus my issue with having any betya software as a default for the task
in the release.

[Bug 201839] Re: Update to 3.0 beta 4

2008-03-13 Thread DJ_Peng
Actually why is a beta browser included in Hardy at all? Firefox 3 won't
be final when Hardy ships and every Firefox release announcement has a
bold notice that it is a testing release and isn't designed for all
users. A user can always make the decision to use the betas of Firefox 3
at any point during testing, yet once Hardy goes final users will loose
the right to opt-in to the Firefox 3 beta process. There will still be
changes between beta and gold versions of Firefox 3 and many addons will
not be updated to work with Firefox 3 yet. Ubuntu users may tend to be
techy-types, but there are too many changes in Fx3 to push it on people
while it's still being worked on.

[Bug 96473] Re: [nvidia-glx] Window content is black after opening 5/6 windows when using compiz

2007-10-10 Thread DJ_Peng
I'm also getting it on my Nvidia GeForce 2 MX200 card (64 MB of video
RAM) using the nvidia-glx driver version 1:1.0.9639+2.3.22.4-14.8, and
especially when I am running SecondLife.

[Bug 96826] Re: Feisty Beta does not recognise CD burner

2007-04-23 Thread DJ_Peng
I just saw that while looking for a solution to another problem. Damn,
it's nice to have the old boot speed back. Getting my CD drive back is
gravy. What a great way to start a new week!

Thanks, devs!

[Bug 96826] Re: Feisty Beta does not recognise CD burner

2007-04-22 Thread DJ_Peng
I did an online update from Edgy and Feisty doesn't even see my CD
drive. There's nothing I can find in my /dev folder that looks remotely
like an optical drive. My sources.lst doesn't show it either, but that
may be due to the fact that I didn't update from a disc.

[Bug 104644] Re: [apport] package update-manager failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: SystemError in cache.commit(): E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

2007-04-11 Thread DJ_Peng
I wish I knew. I think I tried to install postfix a while back but
couldn't get it configured properly so never used it I was pretty sure I
had uninstalled it before. Now I wish I could get rid of it because ever
since I upgraded to feisty I keep getting complaints when I install
something that postfix and mailx didn't install properly.
