[Bug 1784878] Re: Backlight Not Functional - Origin EVO 15-S (Clevo)

2018-10-09 Thread Dan Buhrman
Updated to 4.19-rc7 (uname -r = `4.19.0-041900rc7-generic`) with 'Ubuntu
Kernel Update Utility'. Without any boot parameters, brightness still
doesn't function (but UI shows it changing).

Are there any other things you want me to try on this kernel?
Unfortunately a lot of other things seemed to break on this kernel,
including Nvidia modules, which didn't seem to compile.

2018-08-02 Thread Dan Buhrman
Tried both nvidia-driver-390 and nvidia-driver-396 (from graphics-
drivers PPA). Neither allow backlight to change upon reboot.

Not sure if this matters, but also tried switching to Intel with prime-
select, and after reboot still no luck.

Since I have both Intel and Nvidia graphics, tried adding
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/80-backlight.conf described in backlight
debugging procedure.

Brightness did *not* change after reboot (or before).

2010-12-22 Thread Dan Buhrman
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and help to make Ubuntu
better. As mentioned earlier, ANT_HOME does not need to be defined for
ant to work. I can confirm this. Based on this and the inactivity, I
am closing the bug report. If you feel this is an error, you can reopen
it by changing the status to New.

Re: [Bug 584551] Re: Eclipse crashes randomly with JRE error

2010-09-08 Thread Dan Buhrman
Thanks Alex. I believe that fixed the issue for me as well. It appears it
must have been an issue with the older version of OpenJDK, and this new
release has somehow resolved it.

On Wed, Sep 8, 2010 at 3:08 PM, Alex Little
584...@bugs.launchpad.netwrote:

I was getting the same problem - Eclipse seemingly randomly crashing -
and it was getting extremely frustrating - it would generally happen
within 5 to 10 mins of Eclipse starting, but could also be after only a
few seconds or half an hour. But I recently installed the
icedtea6-plugin package and the problem no longer occurs. I have no
explanation for why this seems to fix the problem, but thought it may be
 useful to try out?

Status in “eclipse” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: eclipse

I'm not sure if this is an Eclipse issue or JDK issue. It seems to happen
regardless of whether OpenJDK or Sun's JDK is in use. There is no
consistency to when it happens, it just seems to randomly happen while
editing source code in Java perspective.

I run Eclipse with the following command:
 eclipse -vmargs -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
This forces Eclipse to use IPv4, and allows me to fetch and send things
across the Internet. Not sure if that is related.

Here is the console output after crash and the Java error report is
attached. There are several error reports, and all contain different
information. The failure (as I mentioned previously) seems to be random,
failing in main thread, VM thread, and other random threads. I will
continue to attach error logs as they continue to appear.

[Bug 586329] [NEW] Editor does not accept input after coming back from screensaver

2010-05-27 Thread Dan Buhrman
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: eclipse

This is simple to reproduce. Start Eclipse, open a .java file, do some
editing. Wait for the screensaver to come on the lock the screen. Move
the mouse or whatever, type in your password, and then Eclipse will not
accept any input. Minimize Eclipse, then maximize it, and you can edit
again.

Not a very critical bug, just an annoyance.

Also, this did not seem to be an issue before 10.04.

[Bug 574477] Re: upgrade via internet fails (kubuntu 9.10-10.04)

2010-05-03 Thread Dan Buhrman
Thank you for taking the time to submit this bug report and helping to
make Ubuntu better.

Unfortunately, the developers need a little more information about the
bug. During an distribution upgrade, several things could have gone
wrong, and necessary log files and back traces help us determine exactly
where the problem lies. In the future, please try to submit bugs
through the ubuntu-bug command
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs). This will upload all
the necessary log files etc so we may completely diagnose the issue.

[Bug 517571] Re: Computer hang-up on coping or moving a folder/file

2010-03-04 Thread Dan Buhrman
Thank you for confirming the bug. Does your computer lock-up or enter
kernel panic everytime you are copying to/from a USB driver or network
share? Basically, is there a way to reproduce this bug?

On a side note, I recall a problem copying large files from at least
NTFS partitions in Nautilus in Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10. System would enter
kernel panic after a given amount of time, however, command-line copying
worked.

[Bug 517509] Re: I cannot download from the firefox browser.

2010-02-05 Thread Dan Buhrman
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Many bugs in Firefox are due to third party themes,
extensions, etc. Please try recreating this bug using a different
profile. Procedure follows:

Start Firefox by entering the following command is a terminal: firefox
-ProfileManager. You should now see the Profile Manager window.

Important note: From the Profile Manager you are also able to remove and
rename profiles. Be very careful when deleting profiles, if you created
the profile in a directory that already existed, the entire directory
will be removed!

Click on the 'Create Profile...' button to start the 'Create Profile
Wizard'. Click 'Next' and enter a descriptive name for the new profile.
Click Finish to have Firefox create the new profile. You should now be
taken back to the Profile Manager and the newly created profile should
be listed. Select it and click 'Start Firefox'. Try to reproduce the bug
with this new profile.

Note: you can go back to your own profile by starting Firefox using the
command firefox -ProfileManager again, selecting your own profile, and
clicking on 'Start Firefox'.
