Public bug reported: What I did; - upgraded to 14.04 trusty - installed gnome-session-flashback - logged out; logged in with gnome flashback (compiz) - in the lower left corner, right click to bring up preferences; change number of workspaces to 4 - click on workspace 3 What I expected: - a panel (with clock etc.) above and a (mostly) blank taskbar below with a workspace switcher - or at least the ability to get back to workspace 1 using ALT-arrow What I saw instead: - a screen completely blank except for the background - no way to change workspaces, launch programs log out, etc. I had to CTRL-ALT-F1 and loging and `sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart` to log in again. Of course, I lose my session state. The symptoms are very much like #156502. Public bug reported: I'm trying to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.4 lucid from a torrent; I found directions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LucidUpgrades#Upgrading%20from%20a%20Torrent Getting the torrent was no trouble; it took about 20 minutes to get both the desktop and the alternate image (I didn't realize I needed the alternate image until I had started getting the desktop image). $ md5sum *i386* 5b2dadacfd692b4f2d5c7cf034539262 ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386.iso d044a2a0c8103fc3e5b7e18b0f7de1c8 ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso Then I mounted the image a la: $ sudo mount -o loop /home/connolly/Desktop/OpenSource/OpenSource- CD/ubuntu-10.04-alternate-i386.iso /media/cdrom0 and then I started the installer: $ gksu sh /cdrom/cdromupgrade At the Include latest updates from the Internet? dialog, I answered No. It says quite clearly: If you answer 'no' here, the network is not used at all. but then I get a Do you want to start the upgrade? dialog that says You have to download a total of 1,209M. I thought perhaps download was a misnomer and that it would get the packages locally, but (a) the network went *very* busy (estimating hours to days to complete), so I cancelled it; (b) I took the network down with sudo ifdown eth0 and tried again, and it failed altogether Then I thought perhaps the problem was related to using a mounted .iso image rather than a physical CD, so I burned the image to CD and tried again. Same symptoms (with the alternate and then the desktop CD). I have logs of all of these attempts; I think the one with eth0 down is likely to have the most information; let's see if I can figure out how to attach it... Ugh... I don't see any way to attach files. The affects me too mechanism is relevant, of course; evidently 53 people have found/used it. But when people are affected by this bug, they're much more likely to throw their computer out the window than learn about launchpad and find the affects me too button. I got a clue from somebody... Your problem is that you need to pass an array as a value of a PropertyValue, and a PropertyValue can receive anything. I took the ooextract.py example http://udk.openoffice.org/python/samples/ooextract.py and tried to use ExportFormFields, without luck. I'm not the only one having this problem; in a Dec 2006 forum post, I see: So, has anyone been able to use OOo's writer_pdf_export filter and the ExportFormFields property with success?
