[Bug 1839317] Re: Grub fails to chainload the Windows Boot Manager on aarch64 laptops

2019-11-10 Thread Daniel Ferradal
To answer my own comment #23.

I managed to work around this like this:
* Forcing Windows 10 to use \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi as in "bcdedit /set
{bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi"
* Changing BIOS setup to use Secure Boot (Didn't have it, didn't want it. never
had it).

Not both ubuntu and windows 10 boot correctly when grub menu shows up.

 This package contains common files shared by the distinct flavours of GRUB.
 The files in this package are specific to GRUB 2, and would break GRUB
 Legacy if installed on the same system

I can "fix it" temporarily doing grub-install /dev/sda but next windows
reboot it fails again.

I have forced windows to use "\EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi" so I am not sure
if grub2 is to blame, but on ubuntu 19.04 this seemed to work correctly.

[Bug 1173152] Re: 802.1x security in 13.04 not working

2013-05-14 Thread Daniel Ferradal
yesterday I had recently upgraded 12.10 to 13.04 32 bit and I had it
working. Although I decided to move to a fresh 64bit install of 13.04.

After the fresh install of 13.04 64 bit and I am suffering the same
problem and network manager indicator ends up crashing when it tries to
connect.

Only possible workaround. Configure wpa_supplicant manually.

For those who need:

/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf

ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=0
eapol_version=2
ap_scan=0

network={
   key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
   eap=PEAP
   phase2=auth=MSCHAPV2
   identity=YOURUSER
   password=YOURPASSWORD
}

###

/etc/network/interfaces

# LO

iface lo inet loopback

# ETH0
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

* Problem 1 Description:

If I open any libreoffice program manually I see the menus normally
(like File - Save, Save as.. , etc). If I open libreoffice by opening a
libreoffice file instad menu's won't work or show up anyhow. Using the
Unity ALT key won't work to get any options from the menu. Ubuntu
installation is new and updated to latest upgrade.

* Problem 2 Description:

Java Runtime Environment can't be added, no matter which folder you add.
Supposedly I believe libreoffice-java-common should have taken care of
that, but anyways I tried to add the directory of extracted JRE from
java.com as I decompressed it in my home folder
/home/myuser/Programas/jre1.7.0_09 and libreoffice does not detect a JRE
there.

I also tried to extract Oracle jrockit to a directory to add it and
Libreoffice does not detect jre there either.

My system also has openjdk-6-jre and libreoffice does not detect/can't
add a JRE from anywhere.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-15 Thread Daniel Ferradal
For those of you with TOTAL freeze and using ath9k driver for a wireless
card I have been able to fix the problem.

So, my case seemed to be really the wireless driver + the model in used,
concretly an AR9287 as reported by lspci.

The same exact looking card in another box reporting as AR9287 instead
didn't give me the problem.

And as for the the solution, as I found googling in the ath9k-devel
mailing list someone suggested this modification to the driver source
code that seemed to solve a very similar issue, in any case I tried
seeing as the modification made a direct mention of the model I was
using, so I downloaded the latest kernel 3.3.6 source, made the
following modifications and I haven't gotten any more freezes:

 Try editing drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hw.c:__ath9k_hw_init():

if (ah-config.serialize_regmode == SER_REG_MODE_AUTO) {
if (ah-hw_version.macVersion == AR_SREV_VERSION_5416_PCI ||
((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah))
 !ah-is_pciexpress)) {
ah-config.serialize_regmode =
SER_REG_MODE_ON;
} else {
ah-config.serialize_regmode =
SER_REG_MODE_OFF;
}
}

Change this:

((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah))

to

((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9287(ah) ||
AR_SREV_9280(ah))

.. so the PCI bus glue fix gets applied for AR9227 NICs.

http://www.mail-archive.com/ath9k-devel@lists.ath9k.org/msg06902.html

After this and using the new kernel I haven't gotten any freezes at all.
Been with the same box under linux ubuntu since yesterday about 4-6
hours which is a record for me as I could never spend more than 15
minutes If I tried to download something or use the wireless.

Thing that tipped me is that in a debian install I tried I always got
the freeze right after starting to use the wireless card, so it seems in
previous kernels the problem was easier to detect.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-14 Thread Daniel Ferradal
A question to everyone.

Which network card are you using to connect to internet?

I have a:
06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9227 Wireless Network
Adapter (rev 01)

which is used by the ATH9K driver.

I have tried Linux mint 12, Debian stable and I have had freezes in all
so I bet it is a certain driver screwing but in my case it is making no
sense already. Thing is with Debian I have had the freeze after
installing just when I was connecting to my wireless for the first time.

Are you guys using the ath9k driver or am I going nuts?

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-14 Thread Daniel Ferradal
Excuse my previous report, my wireless card is a AR9287. I see many
reports of freezes with this model, even in FREEBSD, googling to find a
fix desperately.

The other machine where I was reporting from that never freezes has a
AR9227, and it is a 32 bit system.

As many say it is obvious some people are talking about a total freeze
and some others reporting a graphics problem.

In my freeze, not the 295.49 drivers not previous kernel versions not
another distro (linux mint 12, debian stable) has solved it. It just
never freezes in windows.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-13 Thread Daniel Ferradal
Indeed, I have just tried the 295.49 driver from nvidia, removing
everything nvidia from ubuntu previously and I still got the freeze.

I also installed latest oneiric kernel with the same result to see if I
get lucky as @yorgasor and still got the total freeze.

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently

2012-05-12 Thread Daniel Ferradal
I tried compiling the kernel from kernel.org, version 3.3.5, it took a
while but it also freezed completely (machine completely unresponsive,
no mouse or ping or ctrl+alt+f1 out of it) same as with ubuntu stock
kernel.

I am including my syslog of the whole evening with the two different
kernels (ubuntu, kernel.org 3.3.5, but since the freeze is sudden never
gets anything substantial logged).

** Attachment added: syslog with several freezes, no errors

2012-05-12 Thread Daniel Ferradal
I must say I have installed 12.04 succesfully in 3 other machines with
no freezes, so maybe this is happening on fairly new type of hardware?

My results in different boxes:
* Lenovo T400 laptop, Intel Integrated, 32bit install, successful
* Intel Core Duo E6600, 32bit install, Nvidia Gforce 210, succesful
* Zotac AD02, 64bit install, ATI integrated [Radeon HD 6310], successful
* Intel  I7-950, 64bit install, Geforce GTX470, random total lockup/freezes.

We're talking about a complete system freeze. If you can move the mouse
it is related to graphics only.

[Bug 853965] Re: Major window stacking and focus issues

2011-12-12 Thread Daniel Ferradal
Currently using ubuntu 11.10 updated.
-

I encourage anyone which extensively use desktop applications to try:

Scenario:
6 desktop windows in 2 rows x 3 columns

Window distribution:
1 2 3
4 5 6

Window 1- I use lotus sametime for work, as well as an auth application, and
sometimes I use empathy too
Window 2 - Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome
Window 3 - Spreadsheets, Word Documents
Window 4 - rdesktop terminal server
Window 5 - Lotus Notes
Window 6 - Terminals.

As you can image I end up switching windows a lot but if you are used to
this kind of distribution you work very fast.

The problem:
I specially notice when window focusing is not working right when switching
back and forth from the terminal window to for example the browser window
because you see the a hollow cursor as if focus was into another application,
but there is just the terminal application, you switch back and forth again and
now I get the normal window cursor.

When it affects in firefox is specially annoying, you for example have
to fill a form of those you have to click, a list appears and select
when you try select a choice you move the mouse to select and the menu
hides as if you clicked out. Or in the address bar, you can type there
but firefox suggestions for previous visited urls don't show up, but
switch to another window and back to browser window and voilá, it works
normal now.

When this happens, it doesnt matter if you click the present window for
focus, the semi-focussed behaviour does not stop until you switch to
another window and back.

With Gnome-Tweak I tried to work-around the problem trying the sloppy
focus and I also had problems of the same kind.

Hope this can be fixed as it has been happening since 11.04, it can be
really frustrating.

Thank you for reading.

I reported that one ages ago... I don't use that version any more.

 Does gst-plugins-good0.10 0.10.22-1 (available in Debian testing) fix
 this?

 I contains the following new feature:

 * directsoundsink: Implement SPDIF support for AC3

 Note that if you want to try this you will first need to update
 GStreamer core/base to = 0.10.29
