[Bug 1839317] Re: Grub fails to chainload the Windows Boot Manager on aarch64 laptops
To answer my own comment #23. I managed to work around this like this: * Forcing Windows 10 to use \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi as in "bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi" * Changing BIOS setup to use Secure Boot (Didn't have it, didn't want it. never had it). Not both ubuntu and windows 10 boot correctly when grub menu shows up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1839317 Title: Grub fails to chainload the Windows Boot Manager on aarch64 laptops To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1839317/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently
For those of you with TOTAL freeze and using ath9k driver for a wireless card I have been able to fix the problem. So, my case seemed to be really the wireless driver + the model in used, concretly an AR9287 as reported by lspci. The same exact looking card in another box reporting as AR9287 instead didn't give me the problem. And as for the the solution, as I found googling in the ath9k-devel mailing list someone suggested this modification to the driver source code that seemed to solve a very similar issue, in any case I tried seeing as the modification made a direct mention of the model I was using, so I downloaded the latest kernel 3.3.6 source, made the following modifications and I haven't gotten any more freezes: Try editing drivers/net/wireless/ath/ath9k/hw.c:__ath9k_hw_init(): if (ah-config.serialize_regmode == SER_REG_MODE_AUTO) { if (ah-hw_version.macVersion == AR_SREV_VERSION_5416_PCI || ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) !ah-is_pciexpress)) { ah-config.serialize_regmode = SER_REG_MODE_ON; } else { ah-config.serialize_regmode = SER_REG_MODE_OFF; } } Change this: ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) to ((AR_SREV_9160(ah) || AR_SREV_9287(ah) || AR_SREV_9280(ah)) .. so the PCI bus glue fix gets applied for AR9227 NICs. http://www.mail-archive.com/ath9k-devel@lists.ath9k.org/msg06902.html After this and using the new kernel I haven't gotten any freezes at all. Been with the same box under linux ubuntu since yesterday about 4-6 hours which is a record for me as I could never spend more than 15 minutes If I tried to download something or use the wireless. Thing that tipped me is that in a debian install I tried I always got the freeze right after starting to use the wireless card, so it seems in previous kernels the problem was easier to detect. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 64bit completely freezes frequently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/993187/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Excuse my previous report, my wireless card is a AR9287. I see many reports of freezes with this model, even in FREEBSD, googling to find a fix desperately. [Bug 853965] Re: Major window stacking and focus issues
Currently using ubuntu 11.10 updated. - I encourage anyone which extensively use desktop applications to try: Scenario: 6 desktop windows in 2 rows x 3 columns Window distribution: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Window 1- I use lotus sametime for work, as well as an auth application, and sometimes I use empathy too Window 2 - Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome Window 3 - Spreadsheets, Word Documents Window 4 - rdesktop terminal server Window 5 - Lotus Notes Window 6 - Terminals. As you can image I end up switching windows a lot but if you are used to this kind of distribution you work very fast. The problem: I specially notice when window focusing is not working right when switching back and forth from the terminal window to for example the browser window because you see the a hollow cursor as if focus was into another application, but there is just the terminal application, you switch back and forth again and now I get the normal window cursor. When it affects in firefox is specially annoying, you for example have to fill a form of those you have to click, a list appears and select when you try select a choice you move the mouse to select and the menu hides as if you clicked out. Or in the address bar, you can type there but firefox suggestions for previous visited urls don't show up, but switch to another window and back to browser window and voilá, it works normal now. When this happens, it doesnt matter if you click the present window for focus, the semi-focussed behaviour does not stop until you switch to another window and back. With Gnome-Tweak I tried to work-around the problem trying the sloppy focus and I also had problems of the same kind. Hope this can be fixed as it has been happening since 11.04, it can be really frustrating.
