Got the same bug on Toshiba Satellite L40-17R with current Jaunty.
Also, sudo /etc/acpi/sleep.sh works for me - that is, laptop to sleep and
resumes correctly. Does it work for you?

On my machine I have traced this error to update-apt-xapian-index:

okay, did some more tracing. It seems that error exists in file:
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty/main/i18n/Translation-pl
description of packages cups-bsd and cups-common is incorrect - second line of
description does not start with space. After I corrected these descriptions,
I had this bug too. Kubuntu intrepid updated from hardy. After removing
kmldonkeyrc file everything works fine.
It seems that the following configuration option was responsible for Download
page failing to render properly:
