[Bug 1785816] Re: Consider enabling CONFIG_NETWORK_PHY_TIMESTAMPING
@Colin, thank you for posting your findings in comment #6. If I am reading the spreadsheet correctly, it seems like the majority of the time the CONFIG_NETWORK_PHY_TIMESTAMPING enabled kernel is on average using fewer instructions and branches for the server side (yellow cells H27-K36 and H65-K74) than the kernel without this setting (green cells B27-E36 and B65-E74). that's it for me ! i was just working peacefully today on ubuntu and without any interference on my behalf everything stopped working correctly! I have ubuntu software center and firefox open right now, but every time i click a link in firefox, firefox does nothing (even the pointer is not displayed correctly) but instead the click is made in ubuntu software center, and without my knowledge i installed 2 items like that ! the panel does not work and i realy hate the desktop right now i mean i just switched to linux because i was told it was better suited for me, but now i am only seeing that it is backstabbing me and not even a single person commented on my bug report! [Bug 773732] [NEW] Weird display issues
Public bug reported: So far i have noticed 2 bugs in the display ever since the latest system update 1) First, I usually use Alt + F4 to close windows, and Alt + Tab to switch between windows, and i do this a lot so i suspect this for being whats causing the following .. After manipulating windows for a while, i was last on firefox and when i pressed Alt + F4 to close the window the top of firefox disappeared but the the page itself stayed visible Say i was on google, i still can see the search box and everything but all my firefox toolbars are not there, and the top menu (File Edit ... is not there) I face the same issue later but this time it was with Rythmbox Another time, i closed the lid of my laptop (and i have it to suspend after i do) . When i came back and opened it, no login screen appeared as usually, so i was in my session without any login and the rythmbox window was half visible as described above Ctrl + Alt + Del won't work , escape does nothing, the menu (File Edit ...) appeared but clicking anything on it won't do anything... 2) Second bug i am not sure what its cause is but has to do with mouse and display Say there is a dialog with buttons on it, hovering buttons will usually make them shine and clicking them performs an action.. Ok sometimes, but more frequently then the previous issue, i get a dialog but hovering the buttons or clicking them has no effect, as if the buttons were not there... Observing closely, i noticed that if i put my cursor a little bit far then where the button is (sometimes outside the dialog itself) the button shines, as if my mouse was over it Furthermore, i maximized/minimized the window (depending on the case) and the display was working propperly I hope this helps you debug this, if you need more details i will be glad to provide them ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-8.42-generic 2.6.38.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-8-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz Date: Fri Apr 29 19:44:33 2011 DistUpgraded: Log time: 2011-04-28 14:49:08.236006 DistroCodename: natty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.38-8-generic, i686: installed fglrx, 8.840, 2.6.35-28-generic, i686: installed GraphicsCard: ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5430 Series] [1002:68e1] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:1426] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) JockeyStatus: xorg:fglrx - ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) MachineType: Hewlett-Packard HP G62 Notebook PC ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.38-8-generic root=UUID=46FE05CAFE05B2EB loop=/hostname/disks/root.disk ro quiet splash Renderer: Unknown SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2011-04-28 (1 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 02/10/2010 dmi.bios.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.bios.version: F.07 dmi.board.asset.tag: Base Board Asset Tag dmi.board.name: 1426 dmi.board.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.board.version: 54.13 dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: Hewlett-Packard dmi.chassis.version: N/A dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnHewlett-Packard:bvrF.07:bd02/10/2010:svnHewlett-Packard:pnHPG62NotebookPC:pvr049D102027102:rvnHewlett-Packard:rn1426:rvr54.13:cvnHewlett-Packard:ct10:cvrN/A: dmi.product.name: HP G62 Notebook PC dmi.product.version: 049D102027102 dmi.sys.vendor: Hewlett-Packard version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.4+bzr20110415-0ubuntu2 version.fglrx-installer: fglrx-installer N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.23-1ubuntu6 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 7.10.2-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg: xserver-xorg 1:7.6+4ubuntu3 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.0-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.14.0-4ubuntu7 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20110107+b795ca6e-0ubuntu7 ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug compiz-0.9 i386 natty regression-update running-unity ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/773732 Title: Weird display issues -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 763909] Re: 11.04 Wont Boot With Mobility Radeon HD 3400
Hello there, I just made the update to 11.04 and i have the same problem Here is a brief explanation of the steps that occur during the boot, as i noticed above these were not clearly mentioned .. I have a dual boot setup alongside with windows 7 so at the dual boot screen, choosing ubuntu usually displayed a black screen with the boot options, which after the update is purple (and font size is smaller, not sure if that's also a bug or on purpose) After choosing the latest Generic, the boot will show up some boot text quickly and then get to the splash screen Immediately after the 4'th dot appears on the loading screen, my display would go to black, then turn on again, then back ... indefinitely In other words, the display dims over and over I did not reach the login screen yet and i have no option of stopping the loop other than Ctrl + Alt + Delete (Escape used to work before when i had a similar situation) In my next attempt, i tried going to the recovery mode to check for errors, did not get anything, and when i chose the resume option, i experience the same thing as above I am fairly new to ubuntu and i don't know what to do besides that.. If there is anything i can do to help, please let me know, i am usually online most of the day :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763909 Title: 11.04 Wont Boot With Mobility Radeon HD 3400 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

By the way, zen-sources (based on kernel 2.6.24-rc3) doesn't need the fix to make the sound works on toshiba p100. You just compile it and sound works! http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-616535-highlight-zen.html http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/zen-sources.git I use it since a week and everything is working well (using Arch linux). Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
If you use the linuxant driver, try the generic package with source. It simply works with any kernel. You'll find it here: http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads.php Take the one in DPKG format. Uninstall the other one before using the generic one. Folow the instructions and reboot. It worked for me when i was using ubuntu with generic kernel in the past. You also asked about recent distribution that works out of the box for the toshiba P100. Mandriva 2008 and Opensuse 10.3 works very well as they use kernel 2.6.22, so there is sound!. Modem also works with those distro. I tried both and found them as easy as ubuntu to use. Opensuse takes a long time to install, but mandriva is pretty straigtfoward to install. Good luck! Le Thursday 15 November 2007 01:58:39 nathanlanham, vous avez écrit : well here is what happened. [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
The problem is with kernel 2.6.22. There were a modification in drivers/acpi/ec.c that makes all kernel 2.6.22 useless with toshiba P100 notebooks. Ubuntu 7.10 backported patches from 2.6.23 in their 2.6.22 kernel. From now, one of the solution modify kernel sources. I just wrote to the main kernel developer who did the modification in drivers/acpi/ec.c that make problem exist. I just hope there will be a solution for kernel 2.6.24, because the problem is still there in 2.6.24 rc2. Currently, i can't help ubuntu users to create some deb packages because i don't use ubuntu. I made my toshiba p100 (PSPA3C-MA502C) works with 2.6.23.1 vanilla kernel. I now have sound like before. I just edited linux-2.6.23.1/drivers/acpi/ec.c and remove theses lines (from line 879 to 892): if (ACPI_SUCCESS(status)) { printk(KERN_INFO PREFIX EC description table is found, configuring boot EC\n\n); boot_ec-command_addr = ecdt_ptr-control.address; boot_ec-data_addr = ecdt_ptr-data.address; boot_ec-gpe = ecdt_ptr-gpe; boot_ec-handle = ACPI_ROOT_OBJECT; } else { printk(KERN_DEBUG PREFIX Look up EC in DSDT\n); status = acpi_get_devices(ec_device_ids[0].id, ec_parse_device, boot_ec, NULL); /* Check that acpi_get_devices actually find something */ if (ACPI_FAILURE(status) || !boot_ec-handle) goto error; } I did make xconfig and added my custom dsdt file and compiled the kernel et voilà! My laptop now runs 2.6.23.1 kernel and have sound like it has with previous kernel. My graphic card vent is running well (46 C idle and 65 C when playing opengl games). I use bios V 4.00. I'm pretty sure that is possible to modify ubuntu's gusty kernel to make it work without going back to 2.6.22's kernel. I know it's a dirty hack, but it will probably lead to a proper solution! [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.
I think i may have some answers about this bug. I own a toshiba P100, so i know about the problem and custom DSDT. Last summer, i was using Arch Linux and when kernel 2.6.22 was out for Arch, i installed it on my laptop and lost sound, even if my DSDT file was ok. I decided to check on patched applied by arch devs on their kernel to find out that acpi-asus-m6-battery-fix.patch was the cause of all this (http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7598#comment17914). I recompiled the 2.6.22 kernel without this patch and magically, the sound on my laptop was working again with my custom DSDT file. Last week, i've decided to try Gusty. Before trying it, i found out about this bug so i decided to investigate on it. I downloaded patch-2.6.23.bz2 from kernel.org to find out that that the some of the modifications that were in acpi-asus-m6-battery-fix.patch were in kernel 2.6.23. [Bug 70102] Re: Toshiba Satellite A70 always reports lid as closed
Tested with kernels: 2.6.18-4-686 (on Debian Etch) and 2.6.17-12-generic (Ubuntu Edgy). Also in PCLinuxOS (I don't remember which kernel version). The same problem in all of them. I hope someone will patch it for next kernel versions. p.d.: suspending to ram is not related. -- Toshiba Satellite A70 always reports lid as closed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70102 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 132345] When creating a new TableModel, method getRowCount is called before constructor
Public bug reported: It is working #1 with my Windows computer so this problem seems to be related to Ubuntu's java version only. When I'm creating a new TableModel // Global variable private TableModel tm_departement = null; // In my methods tm_departement = new FormatModel(2, departement, trace); Instead of going in the constructor, it goes directly to a method called getRowCount (inherited from AbstractTableModel). getRowCount exists but since my variables are not initialized I got some null pointer exception. ** Affects: sun-java6 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- When creating a new TableModel, method getRowCount is called before constructor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/132345 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
