 You may need to run the following from a terminal:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package or updates.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as "Confirmed"

[Bug 1785816] Re: Consider enabling CONFIG_NETWORK_PHY_TIMESTAMPING

2018-08-17 Thread Dany
@Colin, thank you for posting your findings in comment #6.

If I am reading the spreadsheet correctly, it seems like the majority of
the time the CONFIG_NETWORK_PHY_TIMESTAMPING enabled kernel is on
average using fewer instructions and branches for the server side
(yellow cells H27-K36 and H65-K74) than the kernel without this setting
(green cells B27-E36 and B65-E74). For 512 byte TCP buffers that's also
the case for the client.

Am I reading the spreadsheet correctly?

[Bug 1509139] Re: Shows "Chromium isn't your default browser" since 15.10.

2016-09-24 Thread Dany
#34 not works in Linux Mint (the line 198 is not the same).

Also, I try with:
change lines #177 and #202 in the file /usr/bin/xdg-settings from

command="`grep -E "^Exec(\[[^]=]*])?=" "$file" | cut -d= -f 2- |
first_word`"

to

command="`grep -E "^Exec(\[[^]=]*])?=" "$file" | cut -d= -f 2- |
first_word | head -n 1`"

But also, not works in Linux Mint (18 KDE).

[Bug 346386] Re: [MASTER] Update fails with invalid package files with Encountered a section with no Package: header

2013-12-30 Thread Dany
The suggested work around was not correct in my case as there was a
directory under the /lists directory named 'partial'. Work around was
rmdir /var/lib/apt/lists/partial and then run apt-get update.

[Bug 739495]

2013-01-21 Thread Adam-pierre-dany
+1 This feature could be very useful.

@Tomas Pospisek : For now you can use only do some cheat with a shell script.
For example having your configuration file in ~/.ssh/config.d and make that
type of alias:
alias ssh=cat ~/.ssh/config.d/*  ~/.ssh/config ; ssh
It my way to keep my config file up-to-date.

I subscribe to this ticket.

 +1 I needed just this today

 The usecase is the following:

 * my employer is maintaining a ssh_config file that registers all
 machines
 * I have some settings and hosts of my own

 How do I usefully integrate those two files?

[Bug 995467] Re: Realtek rtl8187b wireless chipset slow speed

2012-05-06 Thread Dany K
** Description changed:

- This chipset is still buggy in Ubuntu 12.04.
+ I recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with all the updates. I have an

+ card manages to transfer at full speed after for a bit, but slows down
+ again after a minute or so. I've already faced this problem in Ubuntu

[Bug 773732] Re: Weird display issues

2011-05-03 Thread Khalife Dany
that's it for me !
i was just working peacefully today on ubuntu and without any interference on
my behalf everything stopped working correctly!
I have ubuntu software center and firefox open right now, but every time i
click a link in firefox, firefox does nothing (even the pointer is not
displayed correctly) but instead the click is made in ubuntu software center,
and without my knowledge i installed 2 items like that !
the panel does not work and i realy hate the desktop right now
i mean i just switched to linux because i was told it was better suited for me,
but now i am only seeing that it is backstabbing me and not even a single
person commented on my bug report!

Just revert the old panels to the way they were, at least they were
WORKING

@Sam Zhai
Yes! I forgot to mention that its someone what the brightness that is
toggeling..
And also I am using wubi!

So Wubi + Ati Driver

Do you have a tempo fix? i mean currently i am using the 3rd linux image at
grub but its slower at startup then previously
I mean before, as i enter my pwd and press enter everything would appear, now
its like a 5 second delay, sometimes more :(
so i am hoping that other image will be faster :D

2011-04-29 Thread Khalife Dany
Sorry for being out, i tried a different approach today and i got it
working with the linux image that doesn't have pae at the end (forgot
the full name :()

so i added the radeon.nonsense=1 at the grub before booting and that didn't fix
the boot (not sure if it was supposed to but anw)
then i went to log viewer using the other linux image (without the pae) and i
got these 2 logs

Log 1 is from today
Log 2 is from yesterday

I hope this helps,
If any else is needed i am ready to post more logs :)

[Bug 773732] [NEW] Weird display issues

2011-04-29 Thread Khalife Dany
Public bug reported:

So far i have noticed 2 bugs in the display ever since the latest system
update

1) First, I usually use Alt + F4 to close windows, and Alt + Tab to switch
between windows, and i do this a lot so i suspect this for being whats causing
the following ..
After manipulating windows for a while, i was last on firefox and when i
pressed Alt + F4 to close the window the top of firefox disappeared but the the
page itself stayed visible
Say i was on google, i still can see the search box and everything but all my
firefox toolbars are not there, and the top menu (File Edit ... is not there)
I face the same issue later but this time it was with Rythmbox
Another time, i closed the lid of my laptop (and i have it to suspend after i
do) . When i came back and opened it, no login screen appeared as usually, so i
was in my session without any login and the rythmbox window was half visible
as described above
Ctrl + Alt + Del won't work , escape does nothing, the menu (File Edit ...)
appeared but clicking anything on it won't do anything...

2) Second bug i am not sure what its cause is but has to do with mouse and
display
Say there is a dialog with buttons on it, hovering buttons will usually make
them shine and clicking them performs an action..
Ok sometimes, but more frequently then the previous issue, i get a dialog but
hovering the buttons or clicking them has no effect, as if the buttons were not
there...
Observing closely, i noticed that if i put my cursor a little bit far then
where the button is (sometimes outside the dialog itself) the button shines, as
if my mouse was over it
Furthermore, i maximized/minimized the window (depending on the case) and the
display was working propperly

I hope this helps you debug this, if you need more details i will be
glad to provide them

[Bug 763909] Re: 11.04 Wont Boot With Mobility Radeon HD 3400

2011-04-28 Thread Khalife Dany
Hello there,
I just made the update to 11.04 and i have the same problem
Here is a brief explanation of the steps that occur during the boot, as i
noticed above these were not clearly mentioned ..

I have a dual boot setup alongside with windows 7 so at the dual boot
screen, choosing ubuntu usually displayed a black screen with the boot
options, which after the update is purple (and font size is smaller, not
sure if that's also a bug or on purpose)

After choosing the latest Generic, the boot will show up some boot text quickly
and then get to the splash screen
Immediately after the 4'th dot appears on the loading screen, my display
would go to black, then turn on again, then back ... indefinitely
In other words, the display dims over and over

I did not reach the login screen yet and i have no option of stopping
the loop other than Ctrl + Alt + Delete (Escape used to work before when
i had a similar situation)

In my next attempt, i tried going to the recovery mode to check for
errors, did not get anything, and when i chose the resume option, i
experience the same thing as above

I am fairly new to ubuntu and i don't know what to do besides that.. If there
is anything i can do to help, please let me know, i am usually online most of
the day  :)

[Bug 378513] [NEW] ScreenSaver Freezes Screen Freezes GUI

2009-05-19 Thread Dany
Public bug reported:

When I have Compiz on with the custom visual effects and I go to the
System Preferences ScreenSaver window, the windows stop responding.
I can only minimize and maximize some of them but I only get the
animation of going up and down. The Applications, Places and System
Menus stop working and so does the shutdown, restart, logout and such
options. I set the visual effects to off and now was able to choose
another screen saver. But whenever I try to do it with the visual
effects on, the same thing happens. It is worse if I try to choose a
preview of the screen saver as it may not even go back to the gui when I
close the preview. I have an Ati Radeon HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 from XFX. I
submitted my system specifications to this account with System Testing
on my launchpad account. If you need anymore info, just tell me.

It seems to me that the ctrl, shift and alt keys are randomly pressed in

Hope they fix it soon.

Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-27 Thread Dany Martineau
By the way, zen-sources (based on kernel 2.6.24-rc3) doesn't need the fix to
make the sound works on toshiba p100. You just compile it and sound works!

http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-616535-highlight-zen.html
http://repo.or.cz/w/linux-2.6/zen-sources.git

I use it since a week and everything is working well (using Arch linux).

 The instructions I originally wrote up for the workaround were pretty
 sketchy. loliverouge actually wrote up this really nice step-by-step
 piece on pulling down the files from my server and installing the custom
 kernel that I compiled. From what I've been seeing on this thread, it
 has been working fairly well for everyone. I just hope they roll a fix
 into the official kernel so I don't have to fight with the restricted-
 modules again. :-)

 I did things a little differently than loliverouge's step 2 and followed
 the steps I found somewhere else to rebuild my own DSDT file, but from
 what I have seen - finding information on fixing the DSDT file isn't too
 bad.

 - step 1 : download
 http://fragglenet.com/tools/toshiba_dsdt_kernel_fix.2.6.22-14_2007111300.ta
r.gz - step 2 : fix dsdt for nvidia temperature
 (http://ql.homelinux.net/wiki/doku.php?id=ubuntu-7.04:dsdt#le_ventilateur_d
e_la_gc_nvidia) - step 3 : open Terminal and enter this commands :
 * tar xvf toshiba_dsdt_kernel_fix.2.6.22-14_2007111300.tar.gz
 * cd toshiba_dsdt_kernel_fix.2.6.22-14_2007111300/
 * dpkg -i *.deb
 - step 4 : reboot

 BTW - thanks for the steps loliverouge! Much nicer than my original
 ramblings after fighting with the kernel and module compiles for a few
 hours ;-)

Re: [Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-15 Thread Dany Martineau
If you use the linuxant driver, try the generic package with source. It
simply works with any kernel. You'll find it here:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/full/downloads.php
Take the one in DPKG format. Uninstall the other one before using the generic
one. Folow the instructions and reboot. It worked for me when i was using
ubuntu with generic kernel in the past.

You also asked about recent distribution that works out of the box for the
toshiba P100. Mandriva 2008 and Opensuse 10.3 works very well as they use
kernel 2.6.22, so there is sound!. Modem also works with those distro. I
tried both and found them as easy as ubuntu to use. Opensuse takes a long
time to install, but mandriva is pretty straigtfoward to install.

Good luck!

 this normal without the dsdt? if you guys have an ideas please let me

 see 2.6.2214-generic) and the hsfconfig showed something like
 2.6.22.14-dsdt.fixsomething. i dont know hwat to do. Does anyone
 know a disrto that will work out of the box with the sound?

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-12 Thread Dany Martineau
The problem is with kernel 2.6.22. There were a modification in
drivers/acpi/ec.c that makes all kernel 2.6.22 useless with toshiba P100
notebooks. Ubuntu 7.10 backported patches from 2.6.23 in their 2.6.22 kernel.
From now, one of the solution modify kernel sources.
I just wrote to the main kernel developer who did the modification in
drivers/acpi/ec.c that make problem exist. I just hope there will be a
solution for kernel 2.6.24, because the problem is still there in 2.6.24 rc2.
Currently, i can't help ubuntu users to create some deb packages because i
don't use ubuntu. I would say that compiling the sources with the proposed
modification and compiling restricted drivers works, but this is not for
novices.

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-04 Thread Dany Martineau
I made my toshiba p100 (PSPA3C-MA502C) works with 2.6.23.1 vanilla kernel.  I
now have sound like before.
I just edited linux-2.6.23.1/drivers/acpi/ec.c and remove theses lines (from
line 879 to 892):

if (ACPI_SUCCESS(status)) {
printk(KERN_INFO PREFIX EC description table is found,
configuring boot EC\n\n);
boot_ec-command_addr = ecdt_ptr-control.address;
boot_ec-data_addr = ecdt_ptr-data.address;
boot_ec-gpe = ecdt_ptr-gpe;
boot_ec-handle = ACPI_ROOT_OBJECT;
} else {
printk(KERN_DEBUG PREFIX Look up EC in DSDT\n);
status = acpi_get_devices(ec_device_ids[0].id, ec_parse_device,
boot_ec, NULL);
/* Check that acpi_get_devices actually find something */
if (ACPI_FAILURE(status) || !boot_ec-handle)
goto error;
}

I did make xconfig and added my custom dsdt file and compiled the kernel et
voilà!
My laptop now runs 2.6.23.1 kernel and have sound like it has with previous
kernel. My graphic card vent is running well (46 C idle and 65 C when playing
opengl games).  I use bios V 4.00.

I'm pretty sure that is possible to modify ubuntu's gusty kernel to make
it work without going back to 2.6.22's kernel. I know it's a dirty
hack, but it will probably lead to a proper solution! I'm not a
developer, only a linux user that uses it since 1999 without running
windows in parallel!

2007-11-04 Thread Dany Martineau
To ZdadrDeM: I did add a custom DSDT because my GPU's temperature is higher
without it, even with Mandriva 2008.0.
Don't forget that the point is to make the sound of the toshiba P100 works with
kernel 2.6.23. Sound is working without custom DSDT, but i don't want to
overheat my laptop...

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-04 Thread Dany Martineau
This bug must be reported to kernels devs, because it affects kernel 2.6.23, so
basically, every person who wants to install this kernel will face this bug and
if it's not corrected, it will be in 2.6.24!!
The dirty hack proposed might make something else work wrong. The lines
erased were destined to correct the battery status on some asus notebook, so
someone (i repeat, i'm no developer) have to find a proper solution for
everyone!

To Luis: It's my pleasure to help! Even if i don't use ubuntu right
now, i might use it later or recommend to a friend. I like to test
distros when i got the time to do it!

[Bug 136469] Re: toshiba p100 series dsdt acpi error no sound, works with acpi turned off.

2007-11-03 Thread Dany Martineau
I think i may have some answers about this bug.
I own a toshiba P100, so i know about the problem and custom DSDT.
Last summer, i was using Arch Linux and when kernel 2.6.22 was out for Arch, i
installed it on my laptop and lost sound, even if my DSDT file was ok.
I decided to check on patched applied by arch devs on their kernel to find out
that acpi-asus-m6-battery-fix.patch was the cause of all this
(http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/7598#comment17914).  I recompiled the 2.6.22
kernel without this patch and magically, the sound on my laptop was working
again with my custom DSDT file.
Last week, i've decided to try Gusty. Before trying it, i found out about this
bug so i decided to investigate on it.
I downloaded patch-2.6.23.bz2 from kernel.org to find out that that the some of
the modifications that were in acpi-asus-m6-battery-fix.patch were in kernel
2.6.23.

Here's  acpi-asus-m6-battery-fix.patch

If ECDT is not found, look up EC in DSDT.

[Bug 104962] Re: EOG freeze after rotating and saving of 2 pictures consecutively

2007-08-29 Thread Dany
Hi!
I'm having a similar problem:
- I rotate an image
- I save it
- Programs loads next image
- I rotate it too
- I save it
- Programs loads next image and here comes the freeze
I tried updating eog with pollycoke repo version number 2.19.4 but the only
difference is that now after saving image the program closes itself.
Sorry for my bad english, hope these informations will help you fix this bug,
this is one of my firsts bug post so if there's something to correct please
give me some more detailed instructions on what to do.

[Bug 70102] Re: Toshiba Satellite A70 always reports lid as closed

2007-08-18 Thread dany-r5
Tested with kernels: 2.6.18-4-686 (on Debian Etch) and 2.6.17-12-generic
(Ubuntu Edgy).
Also in PCLinuxOS (I don't remember which kernel version).
The same problem in all of them. I hope someone will patch it for next kernel
versions.
p.d.: suspending to ram is not related.

[Bug 132345] When creating a new TableModel, method getRowCount is called before constructor

2007-08-13 Thread Dany
Public bug reported:

It is working #1 with my Windows computer so this problem seems to be
related to Ubuntu's java version only.

When I'm creating a new TableModel
// Global variable
private TableModel tm_departement = null;

// In my methods
tm_departement = new FormatModel(2, departement, trace);

Instead of going in the constructor, it goes directly to a method called
getRowCount (inherited from AbstractTableModel). getRowCount exists but
since my variables are not initialized I got some null pointer
exception.
