[Bug 1829399] Re: Lid switch triggered suspend takes much longer than UI triggered suspend
there has been no progress on this issue, it's the same in ubuntu 21.04. the behavior described in #15 is especially annoying since closing the lid by mistake (while eg carrying it around) and opening it immediately does not cancel the suspend, it comes 30s later no matter what one is currently doing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1829399 Title: Lid switch triggered suspend takes much longer than UI triggered suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1829399/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1933796] [NEW] resume from suspend while connected to power results in roaring fans
Public bug reported: since upgrade to ubuntu 20.10 my thinkpad x1 carbon gen5 resumes from suspend with a roaring fan. i have to make sure to start the resume while the power cord is not connected, let it wake up fully and only then connect the power cord. this is quite an annoying regression, still persisting in ubuntu 21.04, since there is no way to calm the fan noise except to do a complete shutdown and power on cycle (reboot still keeps the fan at max). [Bug 1900729] Re: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono
indeed, i get a crash if i click on the following fonts: Bitstream Vera Sans Mono, DejaVu Sans Mono, Inconsolata, MathJax_Vector-Bold, and Terminus. note that in the font chooser these font names appear to be rendered not in their particular typeface but with the default system font so is seems there is the bug still lingering somewhere. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900729 Title: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1900729/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1900729] Re: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono
i tested it after installing libgtk-3-0 libgtk-3-common from proposed. i can confirm that the gnome-terminal settings custom font now shows only "ubuntu mono" when "ubuntu" is typed into the search box and therefore solves the issue. nevertheless, note that this is still different than what we see in focal, namely typing "ubuntu" into the search shows ubuntu mono {regular, italics, bold, bold-italics}. it's probably fine to allow selecting only the regular font since italics is useless as a terminal font and bold is used for emphasis anyway... packages installed: libgtk-3-common (3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1) over (3.24.23-1ubuntu1), libgtk-3-0:amd64 (3.24.23-1ubuntu1.1) over (3.24.23-1ubuntu1) ** Tags removed: verification-needed-groovy ** Tags added: verification-done-groovy -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900729 Title: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1900729/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1900729] Re: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono
this is just going in circles. i don't understand the details but it seems that: * it's quite ok to have a monospace filter built into the gnome-terminal font selector * this job is really delegated to the pango lib, which uses the first fc result to determine the spacing for the *whole* family * for the ubuntu font the first fc result isn't the regular type, which has the spacing property, but some other variant which doesn't have it last point hints at the urgency that this is fixed in the fonts themselves. it's a great pity one cannot enjoy the ubuntu font in the gnome-terminal in the latest ubuntu distros. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1900729 Title: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1900729/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1900729] Re: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono
upstream has closed the issue on gnome-terminal, saying "gnome-terminal only shows fonts that are monospace, as reported by pango. [Bug 1616650] Re: snap refresh while command is running may cause issues
this has become quite a nightmare. for all many years my workflow with chromium browser was to have regularly two-digit number of tabs open for a VERY LONG time, basically the browser was closed only when kernel update required a reboot. now my workflow has changed drastically: a couple of times per day i anxiously check "menu|settings|passwords" to see if the list of saved passwords is empty or not, since afaik there is no other way to detect this problem (continuing to use the browser also started to crash it recently). then i save all the open tabs in a special backup folder of my bookmarks since the "restore open tabs" on restart restores them to some outdated state that existed at the time of the snap refresh and are basically useless. then i pin the tabs i have always pinned. as you can see this is hugely annoying and i would never use chromium from snap except that i don't have this choice anymore. imho this is a very severe regression and i am starting to think about switching to firefox instead. the 7 day thing is, sorry to say, not really a solution. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1616650 Title: snap refresh while command is running may cause issues To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/snapd/+bug/1616650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

this is a huge headache for running vim in the gnome-terminal: the mouse scroll generates a sequence of key up or down strokes that are indistinguishable from the real keystrokes. having a very sensitive mouse scroller will inevitably produce unwanted scrolls to wrong place while, for instance, pasting the x11 buffer with the middle mouse button. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1688528 Title: gnome-terminal with screen interprets mouse wheel events as up/down To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1688528/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: ubuntu 19.10, snap version 80.0.3987.163 normally, i keep the same chromium browser open for days. it gets closed only if an update requires a reboot. as a certain pattern i have noticed that after several days (around 4 days in this particular case) chromium stops auto-filling the passwords. opening the settings, stored passwords shows an empty list. as an additional annoyance, restarting chromium results in not the most recent tabs but tabs that were open quite some time ago, i guess at the time when this bug actually occurs and the last tab state gets successfully stored. is this a symptom of chromium losing the ability to write files after certain time? ** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871178 Title: after some days stored passwords disappear, restart does not remember last used tabs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1871178/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1774835] Re: Xubuntu 18.04 sometimes logs out when lid is closed
this resurfaced in ubuntu 18.10. although i have suspend off everywhere (only switch off display), i got, i assume, a logout to a lock screen where my power-manager settings are ignored and the laptop goes into suspend (from which it wakes up only with a reboot, but this is another story). in the Settings | Power Manager | Security tab i set the "automatically lock" to "never", but the lock occurs anyway and checking these settings again after logging-in, they turn out to be set back to "when the screen saver is activated". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774835 Title: Xubuntu 18.04 sometimes logs out when lid is closed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-power-manager/+bug/1774835/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1789258] [NEW] drm:drm_atomic_helper_wait_for_dependencies flip_done timed out
Public bug reported: every now an then the system freezes but eventually comes back to life. the boot process is especially slow, login greeter takes ages to come up and then, while there, needs some extra time to unfreeze and actually allow typing in the password. the freeze can be easily reproduced each time when switching from graphics to console (with ctrl-alt-fN) and back. each time the dmesg gets also gets appended with the error messages that can be found in the attached text file. is the workaround really to uninstall intel's xorg drivers? [Bug 1514161] Re: address book search view makes full show after delete
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected bionic ** Description changed: just an annoyance: imagine you want to delete an email from all the address books. you click on the top item "All Address Books" and then enter the email into the search box. let's assume the search shows you several hits which all appear in the window below the search box. you click on the first one and you press the delete key. a dialog appears and you confirm the action with ok. the window, which was up until now showing several hits to your search, refreshes and shows you *all* your emails, in spite that the search box is still showing your selection restriction. imho, this is a contradiction. either the search box has to be reset to empty or the window should again show the corresponding selection. [Bug 1527147] Re: list of printers in print dialog jumps fast, hard to select a printer
this has been the same since ages. please see the attached desktop video capture. the list of printers is in my opinion (a) refreshed too fast and (b) whatever is the sort algorithm for the order in the window, it's not stable, ie each time it produces a slightly different list of printers. it's extremely hard to select the correct printer below the point where it starts to deviate by each update. this is agonizing. note that this is not limited to just the evince print dialog, as shown in the attachment. it affects all print dialogs of all the gtk applications. ** Attachment added: "desktop video illustrating the odd behavior." https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1527147/+attachment/523/+files/evince-print_dialog.ogv -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1527147 Title: list of printers in print dialog jumps fast, hard to select a printer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1527147/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1683428] Re: read_csv on bzip2 file unzips only the first block
Furthermore, according to https://bugs.python.org/issue20781 this is in their opinion "not a bug" ie wont-fix. Unfortunately, the bz2 container clearly allows for multiple concatenated streams (blocks) and therefore IMHO this is a bug since a legally formatted bz2 file is not read correctly and is truncated after the first block. ** Bug watch added: Python Roundup #20781 http://bugs.python.org/issue20781 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1683428 Title: read_csv on bzip2 file unzips only the first block To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pandas/+bug/1683428/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1683428] [NEW] read_csv on bzip2 file unzips only the first block
Public bug reported: It seems that the read_csv() suffers the same symptoms as eg the early boost implementations, see https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/ticket/3853 for details. The bz2 files can namely be composed of many concatenated bz2 blocks which have to be treated as a continuous stream. How to test: create large csv file, much larger than 900k. Compress with pbzip2 (each process creates one bz2 block). Alternatively create many such csv files, bzip2 them individually and then cat *.bz2 >joined.bz2 read_csv() will uncompress and read only the first block. Note that this is a severe bug since the parallel bzip2 is getting increasingly common on multi-core systems. after some more digging the problems might be related to the fact that the disk partition table was left in the hybrid GPT/MBR format and thus the mac is booting in the efi mode. according to http://www.rodsbooks.com/ubuntu-efi/ this might cause limited support for nvidia graphics card and related bios rom problems. in other words, the mac is not booting in the bios compatibility mode. since ubuntu is the only operating system on the machine, i will reinstall it by wiping the disk and using a dos partition table. this should force the mac to boot into the bios mode. unfortunately, since ubuntu 16.04 desktop dvd does not boot via the optical drive, i have to use ubuntu 15.10 server cd and then do-release-upgrade since 16.04 desktop does not fit into a standard cd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1547599 Title: legacy nvidia drivers fail to work with latest kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1547599/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

this bug post is only about MacBookPro3,1. in ubuntu 15.10 the nouveau driver did not work but nvidia drivers did. now, in ubuntu 16.04, the nvidia drivers also do not work. just to see why nouveau fails i uninstalled all nvidia packages and purged dependencies. while booting without splash the output in the console stops at the message "fb: switching to nouveaufb from EFI VGA" and the dmesg has some more: fb: switching to nouveaufb from EFI VGA Console: switching to colour dummy device 80x25 nouveau :01:00.0: enabling device (0002 -> 0003) nouveau :01:00.0: NVIDIA G84 (084700a2) nouveau :01:00.0: Invalid ROM contents nouveau :01:00.0: bios: unable to locate usable image nouveau :01:00.0: bios ctor failed, -22 nouveau: probe of :01:00.0 failed with error -22 i never really tried to get nouveau working with 15.10 so i cannot tell whether this is a regression or not. do you want me to file a separate bug report on nouveau on MacBookPro3,1?

[Bug 1526415] [NEW] after upgrade printer properties not recognized (paper, duplex etc)
Public bug reported: after an upgrade from ubuntu 15.04 to 15.10 the print dialogs (eg in okular, firefox etc) do not display any printer properties and do not allow to change anything. for example, default paper setting for our main printer is now in okular "Letter" while it's clearly an "A4" printer. in okular and firefox one cannot change the duplex options anymore. in short: while remote printers are still recognized and listed, it seems their settings are not. while my clients are version 2.1.0, our institute cups server runs version 1.5.3 and i don't see any easy way we can force them to upgrade it. i tried to force the lower version by stopping both cups services (cups and cups-browsed) and creating an /etc/cups/client.conf with ServerName x.y.z/version=1.1 but it seems this is not supported anymore. lpstat does not see any printers but the "add /version=1.1" message is still issued, although obviously not supported. are these inconsistencies any indication of a possible bug? [Bug 1514161] [NEW] address book search view makes full show after delete
Public bug reported: just an annoyance: imagine you want to delete an email from all the address books. you click on the top item "All Address Books" and then enter the email into the search box. let's assume the search shows you several hits which all appear in the window below the search box. you click on the first one and you press the delete key. a dialog appears and you confirm the action with ok. the window, which was up until now showing several hits to your search, refreshes and shows you *all* your emails, in spite that the search box is still showing your selection restriction. imho, this is a contradiction. either the search box has to be reset to empty or the window should again show the corresponding selection. [Bug 1502428] [NEW] confusing selector of arrow heads
Public bug reported: the selector of line ends or beginnings is showing a confusing plethora of arrows which most of them seem to be the same arrow types, only in color variations. it would be also helpful to add a tooltip since the difference between eg 1M and 2M arrow types is absolutely not visible from this menu. see attached screenshot. [Bug 1502461] [NEW] vanishing font characters
Public bug reported: in the page title box some characters are not shown (see attachment). they are shown correctly while typing but then some letters vanish (it seems without any logical rule). nevertheless, the whole title is correctly displayed in the small slide preview on the left and everything also gets correctly exported to pdf. also slideshow is ok. after i've taken the attached screenshot the whole title text became normally visible, but the same characters vanish now if i click into the text box to edit it. obviously a very erratic behavior.
