[Bug 1311407] Re: After installation, an Apache instance with `ssl` mod enabled will cause a 'fail to start' error.
Yup, this is giving me a headache too. I think the central issue is that I also have modssl enabled and in /etc/apache2/ports.conf with ssl enabled, it then opens 443 for listening, so then if gnutls is also enabled, I tries to open 443 a second time. I've commented one of my Listen 443 directives and I *think* I'm okay now. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311407 Title: After installation, an Apache instance with `ssl` mod enabled will cause a 'fail to start' error. I'm trying to get mine working for the first time so I'm a bit unsure of whether I'm doing something incorrect or not. [Bug 571444] Re: Boot hangs and unable to continue when automount disk in fstab is not available (Off or Disconnected)
Interesting history of discussion on this topic. I also stumbled on a small thread regarding users confused about what to do for this here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10094269#post10094269 I'm a fairly big fan of having a timeout for bootwait. Alternatively, perhaps we need another option in addition to bootwait and nobootwait... bootwaitdelay or something like that. I'd then suggest that at install time, there be an advanced options area people can view to change some defaults for things like this. I support another simple 'solution' could be to add a comment to the default /etc/fstab file that informs people of 'nobootwait' as I think for most Ubuntu users, that'd be enough. Granted the more casual users would still be stuck enjoying the annoying nature of their experience. Those are my two cents anyway. [Bug 637880] [NEW] ATI Radeon 5770 Very Poorly Supported
Public bug reported: I've tried to run an ATI Radeon 5770 based video card on my x64 10.04 box (up to date as of Sept 14). I've even tried using the 10.8 Catalyst (was released a few weeks back.. ~late Aug 2010). Thus far the very best performance I can get is what I'd get using the vesa X11 driver (only I was explicitly using fglrx). I gave the x64 10.10 beta a whirl, but didn't even get anything coming up on my display. I'm aware I could probably feed in some command-line option on boot and set up on ghetto-graphics. I didn't bother with that. I've also tried running this card in parallel with a Radeon HD 2600. When doing that, the ATI Catalyist Center reports the 5770 as an Unknown Device... sarcasm Awesome /sarcasm I'm concerned in that the 5770 is growing in popularity (for example it's now common place in a few lines of Apple machines). I've observed some forums threads with some fairly old discussion on this issue. Perhaps a 'solution' could entail outright declaring that it's an unsupported card until further notice. If that's opted for, there should be a hook or something in grub2 that displays a warning message to users... As that's a lot more graceful than a completely blank screen. I can only hope my take on this whole situation is incorrect, but sadly, I've spent many hours on this. I think the 5770 stands to make 10.10 not look so great. Hopefully it's an isolated case? [Bug 567365] [NEW] Eject key on Mac Pro not working
Public bug reported: I've found that on my Mac Pro running Ubuntu 10.04 x64 Beta 2 (completely updated as of April 20th 2010), the eject key on the keyboard doesn't eject the CD tray. However, on my Macbook, with the exact same software setup, the key does work. In both cases the eject image appears in the upper-right corner of the screen momentarily. [Bug 563874] Re: Change Desktop Background Dialog can be very slow to launch
I'm presently not having this problem anymore.. Still, it *may* have somehow been partly due to having some laggy mounts (via sshfs). Though I'm also not convinced that should matter is the background images are stored on a local partition. But this lag felt as though something was scanning around my mounts and getting tripped up by the laggy ones... -- Change Desktop Background Dialog can be very slow to launch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563874 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 563578] [NEW] Boot Splash Hindering Boot on Macbook / Mac Pro
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: grub I've had extreme difficulty in getting the 10.04 Beta 2 x64 disk image to boot my Macbook (4,1) past the initial grub menu. I've found if I remove the last few grub entries and replace them with nosplash that it seems to start up okay. I've also had similar challenges with my Mac Pro (x64 too). I've also found that if I boot from the disk and not press a key, the boot process freezes with the grub menu up. [Bug 563874] [NEW] Change Desktop Background Dialog can be very slow to launch
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome I've found on one of my two x64 Beta 2 10.04 setups, that the Change Desktop Background dialog is VERY slow to open.. An error message Unable to start the Settings Manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'... appears (screenshot here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/dawning/4522829430/). Eventually the expected dialog/window does appear and operates normally. A video of this behavior can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwbvRMPgrfU Note that on one of my machines I observe this problem, but not on the other. The only thing I can think of being significantly different is the problem machine has a few mount points declared in fstab that are sshfs shares - so some times things can go a little weird if I had a file open on an sshfs mount and then suspend/resume my machine. However, I observe this error on the problem machine with nothing mounted other than root. But the sshfs shares may still be relevant due to stale handles or something (I'm not sure how to look for those). [Bug 313385] Re: losetup 32bit offset limit, hangs on retry, remains defunct
There are other keywords, like one of those backtraces comes out of an instance of rm. My LVM was full and I had another drive that was already doing something else. I used dd to make a file that I'm using an extra storage space on the LVM. losetup is what connects that file to the file system as a block device that the LVM can make use of. I think the error messages I've seen thus far (as provided above) are merely symptoms of this problem. But I can't honestly say I'm sure what is going on. Samba is involved at all in that there's a samba share over part of the LVM. -- losetup 32bit offset limit, hangs on retry, remains defunct https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/313385 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 340834] [NEW] Power Manager misnames External power source as AC power
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager === The Issue === The Power Manager applet in Gnome says my computer is on AC power when it's plugged in. All computers run on DC power, just that most desktops convert the power they're fed to DC inside of their power supplies. Saying the computer is on AC power to me seems like an annoying misnomer. Laptops will essentially always have a power cord that includes an AC to DC adapter in the middle of the cord - so the laptop is fed DC and has no awareness of anything to do with AC power. === My Suggestion === I'd just use the terms External and Internal power - this is somewhat ambiguizing, however it's about as accurate as you can generally get for this sort of thing. * Yes, I know I'm being picky, but hey, it's not like being accurate in our choice of terms here costs us money. Besides, it's not crippling, go ahead and ignore me if you guys like - only thing is, I think it kind of hurts Ubuntu slightly to have a misnomer like that, or at least, it would in the eyes of certain weird people. ** Affects: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: ac external gnome-power-manager ** Summary changed: - Power Manage incorrectly external power AC + Power Manager misnames External power source as AC power ** Tags added: ac external gnome-power-manager -- Power Manager misnames External power source as AC power https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/340834 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Sorry for all the posts, the AMD64 package is here: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/jaunty/amd64/sshfs/2.1-1 I have installed this package on my machine and am not observing this issue any longer. Will these packages be added to the 8.10 repos? I have a few friends that run Ubuntu desktops that I was going to setup some shares for them using sshfs. My Intreprid (amd64) that's fully up to date is also having these ..disagrees with the fstab issues. [Bug 216518] [NEW] kernel module segmentation fault
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ivtv-utils Description:Ubuntu 7.10 Release:7.10 I was capturing data from my PVR-150 video capture card. I have used it to capture by running: cat /dev/video0 outputfile.mpeg for a long time as the card's onboard MPEG2 encoder is great. The following has been occuring lately.. [Bug 216518] Re: kernel module segmentation fault
I've found that this problem doesn't reoccur when playing back video using mplayer, I've managed to get mplayer to preform slowly enough that the same ivtv message about full stream buffers occurs. However, I haven't re-observed the apparent segmentation fault. -- kernel module segmentation fault https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/216518 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
