I got the same problem with Kubuntu 7.10 and also now with Kubuntu 8.04
Alpha5.

I installed Sidux and had no problems like that but a major problem with
the hardware support. Missing w-lan card is is one to much with my
Notebook.

[Bug 89628] black sreen in Compiz and no fonts

If i activate Compiz in 7.04 Herd 5, Movies will display in a black screen. 
Sound will play normal.
Also in activated Compiz some status informations, like copy files from on to 
anothe direcory, are without display in the window. Only the window an the 
field is displayed without fonts and status bar. If i deactivate Compiz 
everything is fine.  But there are no freezes.

that within Feisty.

Just configure xorg.conf with the  Option XAANoOffscreenPixmaps but
nothing changed. I tried it with option true and false.
