I got the same problem with Kubuntu 7.10 and also now with Kubuntu 8.04 Alpha5. I installed Sidux and had no problems like that but a major problem with the hardware support. [Bug 89628] black sreen in Compiz and no fonts
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: compiz-gnome If i activate Compiz in 7.04 Herd 5, Movies will display in a black screen. Sound will play normal. Also in activated Compiz some status informations, like copy files from on to anothe direcory, are without display in the window. Only the window an the field is displayed without fonts and status bar. If i deactivate Compiz everything is fine. I'm using the Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controler Driver i810 BusID PCI:0:2:0 that within Feisty. Just configure xorg.conf with the Option XAANoOffscreenPixmaps but nothing changed.
