Bump. This is extremely frustrating.

This affects me as well.
@abone Yes, that's necessary. It doesn't matter where you put it in the
file, though. For example:
/etc/pam.d/sudo
=
auth required pam_env.so readenv=1 user_readenv=0
auth required pam_env.so readenv=1 envfile=/etc/default/locale
user_readenv=0
@incl
a symbolic link referring to
/usr/lib/libreadline.so.3.

And yet you had time for that. I'll assume a "yes" from the implications
that I cited previously.
Thanks, Andreas.

Unless you're saying that it'll become 13.1, and 14 will only be introduced
when it's backwards-incompatible with 13.

What makes you think that I need development files? I just need the
library. If I have to install the development package to get the library,
then what's the point of the libarchive package?

And yet, how do you reconcile that with the following from 13.10?
$ ls -l /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libarchive.so*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 Feb 9 20:28
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libarchive.so.13 -> libarchive.so.13.1.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 699252 Apr 4 2013
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libarchive
Public bug reported:
In Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04, there is a libarchive.so.12 and
libarchive.so.13, respectively. However, there is no libarchive.so .
This makes it hard to build against.
Can you add this?

Doing a distribution upgrade, and there seems to be a problem with, what I
believe, was a custom-made package.
