[Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)

2013-04-23 Thread Dvir Volk
I haven't gotten any of the apt based nvidia packages to work with 3.8.0-19,
even though the DKMS builds seemed to complete ok.
Eventually I reverted to downloading the nvidia 313 binary package from
nvidia's site and using their installer, and now everything works.

but something is definitely broken still.

[Bug 1167383] Re: nvidia-310 310.32-0ubuntu2: nvidia-310 kernel module failed to build

2013-04-10 Thread Dvir Volk
Same here, and it happened with nvidia-310-updates as well.
Temp solution - loading the 3.8.0-16 and running `sudo dpkg-reconfigure
nvidia-310` and then everything is fine if you enter this kernel and not 17.

[Bug 995372] [NEW] switching external monitors impossible

2012-05-06 Thread Dvir Volk
Public bug reported:

after upgrading to 12.04 I've encountered the following problem with
gnome3 desktop:

I have 2 screens for my laptop (dell xps502z), one at home and one at
work. they have different resolutions, and both connected via the mini-
displayPort socket (the hdmi socket on this dell doesn't work due to
Nvidia Optimus crap).

When moving from one monitor to the other, the monitor doesn't get a
signal. Opening the display manager shows the screen blackened, and
trying to enable it brings about the following error:

GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: No such interface
`org.gnome.SettingsDaemon.XRANDR_2' on object at path
/org/gnome/SettingsDaemon/XRANDR

restarting X11 solves this, but of course means I have to exit any open
window, and reconfigure my dual monitor layout each time. this was 100%
fine in 11.10.

this happens when moving from either screen to the other.
