[Bug 1743269] Re: P-state not working in kernel 4.13

2018-01-16 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Tested:

v4.14-rc1: had the bug
v4.15-rc1: did not had the bug

Just as an additional information, I did some tests and the last kernel
version that had the bug was 4.14.12 and the first that did not was
4.14.13.

[Bug 1743269] [NEW] P-state not working in kernel 4.13

2018-01-14 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad X230 with an Intel Core i5-3210M CPU. I'm using
Xubuntu 17.10 (Description:Ubuntu 17.10, Release: 17.10). I use tlp
1.0-1~artful in order to improve battery performance, particularly
enabling the Intel P-state performance scaling. In Xubuntu 17.04 it
worked flawlessly, but when I upgraded to 17.10 the processor doesn't
scale anymore. I ran all the updates and it's not working. I also did a
clean install using another hard drive and the problem persist.

I searched the tlp forums and similar problems pointed to a kernel bug,
so I'm filing this report.

I tested different mainline kernels in order to see what kernel version
is causing the problem:

Up to mainline kernel 4.12.14 generic, P-state scaling is OK
Kernel 4.13 generic up to kernel 4.14.12 generic, P-state scaling is not working
Kernel 4.14.13 generic up to 4.15 rc7 generic, P-state scaling is OK

[Bug 1428184] Re: Invisible mouse pointer after resume from suspend

2015-03-09 Thread Eduardo Rudas
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected has-workaround reproducible ubuntu vivid

** Description changed:

I'm using a Samsung NP305U1A-A05CO laptop. After the computer is
suspended, either by closing the lid, choosing the option on the menu or
by itself after the defined time, and then when I wake the computer the
mouse pointer is invisible, however the hardware itself is working as
mouse position and clicks continue working, only the pointer is
  invisible.

WORKAROUND: If I switch to a console with Alt+Shit+F1 and switch back to
X with Alt+Shift+F7 the mouse pointer appears and is back to normal.

WORKAROUND: After installing fglrx 14.50.2 proprietary AMD driver (doing
the modification explained in http://askubuntu.com/a/543836/378463 to
avoid ocl-icd-libopencl1/wine conflict) including the Catalyst Control
Center, the problem is resolved and now I can suspend and resume the
computer and the mouse pointer is visible after wake up as expected.

[Bug 1428184] [NEW] Invisible mouse pointer after resume from suspend

2015-03-04 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Public bug reported:

I'm using a fresh install of Xubuntu 14.04 (Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2
LTS \ Release: 14.04) with latest updates on a Samsung NP305U1A-A05CO
laptop (AMD E450 with Radeon HD 6320 Graphics)

After the computer is suspended, either by closing the lid, choosing the
option on the menu or by itself after the defined time, and then when I
wake the computer the mouse pointer is invisible, however the hardware
itself is working as mouse position and clicks continue working, only
the pointer is invisible.

If I switch to a console with Alt+Shit+F1 and switch back to X with
Alt+Shift+F7 the mouse pointer appears and is back to normal.

After installing fglrx 14.50.2 proprietary AMD driver (doing the
modification explained in http://askubuntu.com/a/543836/378463 to avoid
ocl-icd-libopencl1/wine conflict) including the Catalyst Control Center,
the problem is resolved and now I can suspend and resume the computer
and the mouse pointer is visible after wake up as expected.

A similar bug has been reported here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1297144 affecting 21
people and I have been instructed to file a new bug report.

apt-cache policy pkgname output (in Portuguese):

[Bug 1428184] Re: Invisible mouse pointer after resume from suspend

2015-03-04 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Hi Christopher,
I will try to test the bug using the latest development release, however it
could take a while as I'm traveling and since it's a suspend/resume issue I
don't think it's possible to reproduce it using an USB drive (my computer
doesn't have a DVD Drive) so I need to install it.

[Bug 1297144] Re: Invisible cursor after resume from suspend

2015-03-03 Thread Eduardo Rudas
I have the same problem on a Samsung NP305U1A-A05CO, Xubuntu 14.04 with latest
updates.
I want to report that I have installed the propietary ATI Radeon drivers and
the problem has gone (now sometimes it dosn't resume, but that's another
history).

[Bug 1362452] Re: Menu editor fails to produce expected results.

2014-11-22 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Hi Sean! I confirmed this on Xubuntu 14.04 x64, fresh install, all
updates and latest Menulibre 2.0.6 from the stable ppa repository.

Playing arround with the configuration files I found a workarroud for
this bug:

Note: Update all packages and install latest Menulibre from ppa stable
repository f

1. Delete all files in ~/user/.config/menus (or rename the
directory to ~/user/.config/menus.bkp and create a new empty
~/user/.config/menus in order to backup it).

2. Delete all files in ~/user/.local/share/applications/ (againg,
it's possible to rename ~/user/.local/share/applications to
~/user/.local/share/applications.bkp and create an empty
~/user/.local/share/applications/ in order to backup it)

3. Copy all files from /usr/share/applications/ to
~/user/.local/share/applications/

3. Backup /etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu (i. e.
rename it to /etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/xfce-applications.menu.bkp).
You need to be root to do that. At this point, your Application menu
will show all the optiosn that were not hidden but were not shown
before.

4. Copy (and replace) /etc/xdg/menus/xfce-applications.menu to
/etc/xdg/xdg-xubuntu/menus/ You need to be root to do that.

5. Restart the system

Now is working as expected.

[Bug 1324217] Re: Items not appearing in menu

2014-11-22 Thread Eduardo Rudas
Hi. I manage to show all those items and many others that were not
marked as hidden but did't show in the menu following the procedure I
posted here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/menulibre/+bug/1362452/comments/2
(maybe is a related problem)
