[Bug 1526082] Re: Area of screenshot remains highlighted until application closed

2016-07-03 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
On my system the highlighted is also part of the screenshot, everything
screenshot region that i take as a blue tint (very annoying).

I found a workaround by using `mate-screenshot` provided by `sudo apt-
get install mate-utils`.

[Bug 412918] Re: KARMIC: headphones output not working

2010-01-02 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
Sound was working fine in my MabBook5,2 with 9.04 now I can't configure
the headphones output jack. I'm able to hear the internal speakers but I
can't use the external ones.

When I run alsamixer I don't see the options to toggle the headphones
output jack.

A different topic now; the pulseaudio/gnome sound configuration has
changed so much that I can't see how set which mixer should be used by
default when I press the volume keys. Now the volume keys operate only
on the master channel which has no effect on the internal speakers. Is
there a way to tell gnome/pulseaudio that I would like to control
another sound channel?

[Bug 219487] Re: Typing blocks external mouse

2010-01-02 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
What's strange for me is that changing: Menu System Preference
Mouse Touchpad Disable touchpad while typing has no effect on the
USB mouse. It does affect the touchpad but the mouse is always disabled
after each keystroke.

This is very annoying and drives me nuts.

It's probably better to set the configuration variable in the main
configuration file than in the init.d script.

Edit the file /etc/default/mouseemu and add:

[Bug 120538] Re: id3 tag version differences result in confusing behaviour (e.g. rhythmbox, easytag)

2008-11-20 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
If you find the plugin in GStreamer's Bugzilla #459226 helpful
(http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=459226) please leave a
comment in the upstream bugzilla. If more people find the plugin useful
and show interest then the bug could be closed faster and the plugin
could end up ip the next release of GStreamer. Also feel free to request
new features through the Bugzilla channel. As soon as I get some spare
time I will try to add them.

[Bug 120538] Re: id3 tag version differences result in confusing behaviour (e.g. rhythmbox, easytag)

2008-11-17 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
I also have a SanDisk Sansa player and find out that the MP3s created by
sound-juicer can't be displayed in the MP3 player.

I wrote a Gstreamer plugin that fixes this issue. With this plugin the
MP3s have ID3 v2.3 tags which is more portable.

The source code of the plugin (tar.gz) an the instructions can be
downloaded from Gstreamer's Bugzilla page:

[Bug 64905] Re: Mp3 metadata (ID3 tags) are corrupt

2008-11-17 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
I would like to learn if/how it is possible to specify a muxer in the
pipeline which creates ID3 v2.3 tags but that's a separate issue.

It's possible to build such a pipeline but at first you have to install
plugin that's available in Gstreamer's Bugzilla. The bug includes a
.tar.gz that provides the source code and build instructions of the
plugin.

Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it? (i.e.
does it crash just by visiting code.google.com ?)
This crash is always reproducible for me. It's quite odd as I can't even see
what's on the page, firefox will always crash on that site.

Firefox also crashes randomly on some sites, such as youtube. But
usually restarting the browser will show the page causing the crash just
fine. In the case of code.google.com the problem is more peculiar as the
browser will always crash no matter the number of retries.

[Bug 176512] Re: English help page has a Spanish paragraph

2007-12-15 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
The version, as reported by apt-show-versions | grep gimp-help-en, is:
gimp-help-en/gutsy uptodate 2+0.12-1

The following packages are also installed:
gimp-helpbrowser/gutsy uptodate 2.4.0~rc3-1ubuntu7
gimp-help-fr/gutsy uptodate 2+0.12-1
gimp-help-common/gutsy uptodate 2+0.12-1
gimp-help-en/gutsy uptodate 2+0.12-1

Here's the text that I have:

2.3. Do's and Don'ts

A common error when you are dealing with Script-Fus is that you simply
bring them up and press the OK button. When nothing happens, you
probably think that the script is broken or buggy, but there is most
likely nothing wrong with it.

[Bug 157319] Re: RandR loaded, but missing

2007-10-28 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
Try disabling Xinerama in your configuration file. I had a similar
problem and it turned out that Xinerama was causing the RANDR extension
to be missing even though the Xorg logs reported that the extension was
loaded.

I still have to figure out a way to have both Xinerama and RANDR
working.

I also added the following section to my xorg.conf file, but I doubt
that it's needed:

Section Extensions
Option Composite Enable
Option RANDR Enable
EndSection

[Bug 149764] Re: slow gtk popup menus with gtk dual head

2007-10-28 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
I have the same problem with an Nvidia GeForce 6200 where I have
activated the second screen (VGA). I also notices that the main screen
has the window decorations while the second screen doesn't.

With this setup, the menus are so slow that they are unusable. This is
clearly seems to be a compiz problem because if the window manager is
replaced by metacity the application menus appear instantaneously.

[Bug 158009] Applications start with a delay

2007-10-28 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: quick-lounge-applet

The quick-lounge-applet takes a long time to start some launchers that
are added to it. For instance a gnome-terminal started from the applet
will take 7 seconds to start while a terminal started through the gnome
menu or a keyboard shortcut will start immediately. Other applications
like nautilus show the same behavior while others like Firefox are not
affected.

[Bug 15051] Re: grep -P is not supported

2007-06-03 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
In reply to Marco Rodrigues:

The command grep can only be used for finding text strings, it can't be
used for replacing text in a file. Based on the command that you have
posted it looks like if you where trying to replace all the occurrences
of 'foo' by 'bar', unless if you where really looking for the string
's/foo/bar/;', where you?

First of all you have to be careful with the text that's passed to grep, in
your case you wanted to pass a semicolon ';' but you didn't escaped it. This
had for effect of splitting your single command into two commands:
grep -P s/foo/bar/
x

Finally, if you want to replace text in a file you have to use another
program such as sed or perl, here are some examples:

# Create a modified copy of x
sed 's/foo/bar/g' x modified-x

# Modify the file in place, x will be replaced
sed -i 's/foo/bar/g' x

# Create a modified copy of x
perl -pe 's/foo/bar/g' x modified-x

# Modify the file in place, x will be replaced
perl -i -pe 's/foo/bar/g' x

I hope that it helps.

[Bug 58232] Re: gnome-terminal does not start when using xinerama and nvidia

2007-05-01 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
Here's a slight modification to the script provided by Michael Wood.
This new version launches gnome-terminal through exec, this way the
process of the shell script gets replaced by the process of gnome-
terminal instead of laying around in the system process table waiting
for gnome-terminal to end.

[Bug 15051] Re: grep -P is not supported

2006-12-13 Thread Emmanuel Rodriguez
In reply to Steve Hollingsworth's comment:
The idea advanced in this thread that the documentation be changed is a
terrible one.

I disagree with you, this bug was open over a year ago and the option -P
hasn't appeared, yet the option is documented as being available. I
would really love to have the option -P in grep, but I understand that
adding the option -P seems very hard, we are still waiting after one
year, the only reasonable solution is that the option is removed from
the documentation.

I can live with a tool that's lacking some options, in fact if you use
different kinds of Linux/UNIX systems you will get used to check the man
pages of every command as soon as you want to run a command with some
esoteric arguments.

What I expect is that the documentation of a tool will list the options
available. If grep can't have the option -P then it should at least be
removed from the documentation.
