Echoing comment #15, please provide evidence that this was discussed
somewhere, and why it was deemed important enough to castrate server
admins. I just got bitten by it and ended up disabling networking on a
server that's an hour's drive away. :-(

I'm similarly affected, running Linux Mint LMDE 14.03, with a Brother
HL-2240D printer.

Update to my bug report above. Seems to occur after returning from
screensaver or a suspend. I've found that hitting Alt-Tab, Alt-Tab (as
opposed to Alt-Tab-Tab) solves the problem until the next
screensaver/suspend event.
