[Bug 1389650] Re: Lock screen not working with Gnome 3 (gnome-shell) and Ubuntu 14.10

2016-04-28 Thread Eric Munson
Still happening in 16.04 thought starting gnome-screensaver does not
make Crtl-Alt-L (or Crtl-Shift-L) work. Locking from the cli does
work.

[Bug 528798] Re: Firefox menus unresposive, output Usage:program_name [address][:port]

2015-04-26 Thread Eric Munson
Had this problem after switching to a dual socket motherboard, not sure
why pulse audio was not starting but slow firefox was the only symptom.
After removing my ~/.config/pulse directory everything is happy again.

Problem showed for kubuntu 14.10 and 15.04

[Bug 1371828] [NEW] After updating nvidia-common to 1:0.2.91.7, nvidia drivers are no longer in use

2014-09-19 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release:14.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or
by checking in Software Center
nvidia-common:
  Installed: 1:0.2.91.7
  Candidate: 1:0.2.91.7
  Version table:
 *** 1:0.2.91.7 0
500 http://my-mirror/archive-ubuntu/ubuntu/ trusty-updates/universe
amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:0.2.91.4 0
500 http://my-mirror/archive-ubuntu/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64
Packages

3) What you expected to happen
nVidia binary drivers are used

4) What happened instead
nouveau Xorg driver is used, but the nVidia kernel module is loaded.

I updated this package yesterday but did not reboot. When I started my
machine this morning I could only boot into the terminal. Xorg.0.log
said that the nvidia module did no exist. After purging the nvidia
driver and reinstalling, I can now start the machine and get into X, but
the nouveau driver X driver is in use.

ldmod shows the nvidia driver loaded:
...
ppdev 17671 0
nvidia 10675249 0
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 46368 1
...

But Xorg.0.log says the Xorg driver could not be found:
[ 9.730] (II) LoadModule: nvidia
[ 9.731] (WW) Warning, couldn't open module nvidia
[ 9.731] (II) UnloadModule: nvidia
[ 9.731] (II) Unloading nvidia
[ 9.731] (EE) Failed to load module nvidia (module does not exist, 0)

The Driver Manager says that I am using the nvidia driver version 331.38, but
update-alternatives has the MESA ld.so.conf selected:

$ sudo update-alternatives --config x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf
There are 3 choices for the alternative x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf (providing
/etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu_GL.conf).

  SelectionPath Priority Status

  0/usr/lib/nvidia-331/ld.so.conf 8604 auto mode
  1/usr/lib/nvidia-331-prime/ld.so.conf8603 manual mode
  2/usr/lib/nvidia-331/ld.so.conf 8604 manual mode
* 3/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa/ld.so.conf   500   manual mode

If I select 0 and log out and back in, the nvidia driver is in use, but
I cannot start Steam. This select also does not survive a reboot.

[Bug 743688] Re: Transparent HugePages not enabled in 11.04 kernel

2013-11-20 Thread Eric Munson
@Julian,

That isn't what the article is saying. Huge pages are not swappable at
the moment. However Andrea's work splits huge pages into base pages for
a number of reasons, one of those is memory pressure that would force
part of the page to be swapped out.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-06-02 Thread Eric Munson
I explicitly made the changes in smtpd.conf as suggested in comment #34
and I still see the problem, I am back on 2.1.23. I have not upgraded
to Precise because this is still a problem.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-01-01 Thread Eric Munson
That isn't a solution. I realize that we are not paying for support,
but this sort of statement doesn't encourage me to suggest that route to
anyone. If the fix truly is to update to the newer version why can this
not be done in Onieric?

To anyone that this bug is affecting, make sure to click This affects
me at the top to up the bug heat, that seems to be the only way to get
Canonical to fix something they broke.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2011-10-16 Thread Eric Munson
It does show the correct version:
root@server:~/# saslauthd -v
saslauthd 2.1.25
authentication mechanisms: getpwent pam rimap shadow

And there were no errors on restart of saslauthd or postfix

This output claims that sql is not a valid mechanism, but I passed
--enable-sql to the configure script and I see

checking SQL... enabled
checking for mysql_select_db in -lmysqlclient... yes

in the configure output

Logs all show the same output, including my mysql log showing that it
was never queried.

[Bug 875440] [NEW] Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2011-10-15 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

Upgraded from Natty to Oneiric and now I can no longer authenticate for out
going mail using saslauthd. Initial server setup was done following these
instructions (http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/). With mysql logging enabled,
user credentials are never selected with a login attempt. /var/log/auth.log
with intermittently show:
postfix/smtpd[4930]: sql auxprop plugin using mysql engine
with login attempts and /var/log/mail.log shows:
SASL LOGIN authentication failed: no mechanism available
Every time.

According to Documentation/vm/transhuge.txt you can also set it as the

it via sysfs is that none of the processes started before you made the
change will use huge pages.

[Bug 870007] [NEW] Searching for function call locations causes cscope to break

2011-10-07 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

Checkout Linus' current source tree and index it with 'cscope -k -q -R'
then search for each place reserve_pmc_hardware is called. My cscope
reports File does not have expected format and when I hit enter opens
to the vim splash. When I hit enter once more, I get what I suspect is
the first or second result. When I close this file the cscope ui won't
do anything except re-open the first result. If I close cscope and
restart with -d I can look for other functions (reserve_pmc_hardware
will break cscope ever time in any search field). I cannot reindex if I
start with -k -q -R I get the old index (as if I had used -d instead).
cscope will only reindex if I remove the cscope.* files and try again.
I have attached screen shots of my terminal at each step.

[Bug 799170] Re: Ubuntu doesn't halt or reboot machine

2011-07-27 Thread Eric Munson
It didn't fix anything for me, I don't think my problem is related to
the pcie power management issue.

I am happy to do anything that needs to be done to help diagnose the
issue, but I need some direction there. It is incredibly frustrating
that I have had this bug open for more than a month and nothing has
moved. What do I need to do to get some more eyes on this issue?

[Bug 799170] Re: Ubuntu doesn't halt or reboot machine

2011-07-12 Thread Eric Munson
Unfortunately, I cannot run that old of a kernel and have X start. I
tried back to .37 (the oldest that will start X without hanging the
machine) and it still showed the problem. I will try .35 on the T61 and
see if it helps.

[Bug 799170] [NEW] Ubuntu doesn't halt or reboot machine

2011-06-18 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

I have two machines: one desktop with an Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard
and a Lenovo T61 laptop that both show this problem and another desktop
with an Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard that does not. When I select
shutdown or reboot from the logout menu (or when I run shutdown -h now
or reboot from the terminal) the system gets all the way to the power
off step and stops. When shutting down I hear the hard disks spin down
as they normally would but it the machine stays live. I have tried
adding acpi=force to my GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT in /etc/default/grub
and running update-grub but this does not help. I do not think this is
a hardware problem because windows can reboot and shutdown both
machines.

[Bug 788285] [NEW] middle-click paste crashes synergy client (and sometimes hoses xwindows)

2011-05-25 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: synergy

Steps to reproduce (only happens occasionally):
-Highlight some text in either client or server
-Move mouse to client if not already there
-Paste clipboard contents with middle click

1) I am using Natty x86_64 for the synergy server and Natty x86_32 for the
client. The crash occurs on the client.
2) synergy-1.3.6
3) I expect the clipboard contents to be pasted and move on with my work
4) Often the synergy client crashes forcing me to restart it, about 50% of the
crashes also manage to hose the way xwindows handles mouse input (from either
the restarted synergy client or the physical touchpad) so that clicks are
directed to random areas of the screen (though never what I am actually
interacting with). When xwindows gets into this state the only solution is to
drop to the console and restart gdm.

[Bug 777383] [NEW] hostapd cannot create mon.wlan0 interface for wireless access point

2011-05-04 Thread Eric Munson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hostapd

I use hostapd to control a wireless card in a home router/access point.
This setup was working in Maverick and has stopped in Natty. hostapd is
started as part of the preup process for my bridge between my internal
ethernet port and the wireless card. When I try and start the bridge
with wireless, hostapd prints this:

Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf
ctrl_inerface_group=0
Failed to create interface mon.wlan0.
nl80211 driver initialization failed.
wlan0: Unable to setup interface.
rmdir[ctrl_interface]: No such file or directory

And the bridge fails to come up, when I remove all the setup for
wireless, (leaving only eth1 in the bridge) it works fine but I have no
wireless now.

[Bug 746598] Re: HVR-1600 kernel setup fails

2011-05-04 Thread Eric Munson
They are not yet in Linus' tree, but Andy Walls (the cx18 maintainer)
has them in his tree. The three that made the difference are here:

http://git.linuxtv.org/awalls/media_tree.git?a=commit;h=bb4307140fc3e91ca2d36d6bb54dc3f0266ec481
http://git.linuxtv.org/awalls/media_tree.git?a=commit;h=ff8af8319fe3d6d42e2814d6e01cc35a32d58d3b
http://git.linuxtv.org/awalls/media_tree.git?a=commit;h=a61bc93554afc9074d08aeb015cf395c7a26ea14

These three actually add support for the newest HVR-1600 model, there
are five bug fixes that I applied as well to make the tuner work more
reliably:

http://kernellabs.com/hg/~mkrufky/tda18271-fix/rev/5b5bb17be43d
http://kernellabs.com/hg/~mkrufky/tda18271-fix/rev/74abea7eeba8
http://kernellabs.com/hg/~mkrufky/tda18271-fix/rev/722df4fda0a7
http://kernellabs.com/hg/~mkrufky/tda18271-fix/rev/4e703f422fae
http://kernellabs.com/hg/~mkrufky/tda18271-fix/rev/68dcec20b6e9

The first three enable the hardware, the last five made it reliable.
