[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2009-01-05 Thread Eric O'Callaghan
Scratch that dmidecode information, I ran dmidecode on the wrong machine and
I'm new to Launchpad
Sorry about that... everything before the dmidecode information is still true.

Here's the actual dmidecode information for my laptop:

BIOS Information
Vendor: Dell Inc.
Version: A05
Release Date: 07/30/2008
Address: 0xF
Runtime Size: 64 kB

[Bug 285323] Re: Losing keyboard and mouse control when changing screen brightness with fn + arrow under intrepid

2009-01-05 Thread Eric O'Callaghan
I also have Phoenix Technologies, LTD on my dmidecode output..
This is on my Dell Studio 1535, I bought it from dell.com/ubuntu w/ Hardy on it
originally and the brightness function key combo worked fine on Hardy, but
after upgrading to Intrepid, weird things happened with the brightnes function
keys and applet.

If I try to change the brightness, the bar on the brightness applet that
comes up is not synchronized with the actual brightness of the screen.
If i go to lower the brightness, the screen will get dimmer in
increments as it's supposed to, but the bar on the applet with drop to
the far left like I turned the brightness all the way down. The keyboard
also doesn't respond properly after adjusting brightness, and the applet
doesn't go away. If I switch to another tty and back again, all is
normal, the brightness applet is gone and the keyboard works fine.

Handle 0x, DMI type 0, 20 bytes
BIOS Information
Vendor: Phoenix Technologies, LTD
Version: 6.00 PG
Release Date: 08/03/2005
Address: 0xE
Runtime Size: 128 kB
ROM Size: 512 kB

[Bug 267733] Re: update-manager layout does not leave adequate room for package short descriptions

2008-11-11 Thread Eric O'Callaghan
This is also affecting me, sometimes it shows short descriptions, sometimes not.
It usually cuts off the short description after hitting Check though.

I'm using Compiz+GNOME if that matters.

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-01 Thread Eric O'Callaghan
Cheese also doesn't show any output (and tends to freeze when trying to close
it) on my Dell Studio 15 now on Intrepid; used to work fine on Hardy.
xawtv shows output, but tends to freeze when I close it, skype works, and vlc
works

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-01 Thread Eric O'Callaghan
I just realized if I open Cheese Preferences and change the resolution
to either 160x120 or 176x144. Then I have to kill Cheese because it
freezes when I change the resolution. After that, I ran 'sudo modprobe
-r uvcvideo' and 'sudo modprobe uvcvideo' to reload the module as I saw
mentioned elsewhere. Then using Cheese works fine other than it being a
horrible resolution. Recording, taking photos, and effects even work.
