How is this not a regression?
If a use-case worked in 10.10 and now does not work in 11.04 (monitor
detection on specific hardware using the supplied accelerated driver),
how is that not a regression?
And why won't this be fixed?

I it is really irritating, and although I understand there are so and so
many more important issues, it does not make this issue invalid or go
away.
Don't you have a WONTFIX state which you can use when priority
Argh, forget that about still being here on 10.10, I was using emacs in
the wrong terminal after upgrading. Good to see this gone :-D
But I still wonder why valid issues are marked invalid because of
resource and/or priority concerns.

I have installed and upgraded UNE on my laptop.
With netbook launcher 1:2.1.17-0ubuntu1 I cannot reproduce the crash.
The System menu behaves different still though.
When I select the System menu with keyboard (TAB - arrow down until System -
ENTER)
the System menu appears as expected, but the

Boot UNE.
Press arrow down until System menu is chosen.
Press enter.
Press right arrow.
CRASH!
Does with beta1 and does with Karmic.

I first tried the ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates ppa, as suggested by Konsuli,
and it didn't help.
I then tried the xorg-edgers/ppa, as suggested by Antti, and it did the trick.
I did a full upgrade, but I assume it was the xserver-xorg-video-intel upgrade
that did it.
As this bug is really critical
I will also be happy to help resolve this issue. Just let me know what
to do.

The Lifebook P7010 that I have this bug on is configured with a single
512MB module.
So if UNR is not going to fix this, is it mesa or a driver that should
be fixed? And if so, can we have this bug moved to that?
