[Bug 1502025] [NEW] HP plugin installation hangs after accepting license

2015-10-02 Thread FreeMinded
Public bug reported:

When trying to add a new HP printer which needs the proprietary HP plugin the
plugin install hangs after accepting the license. I have tried the GUI install
as well as the command line install (hp-plugin -i -g).
On the command line the activity indicator keeps spinning forever after
accepting the license.
This is on On Kubuntu 15.10 beta2

[Bug 554484] Re: delay on login Kubuntu

2011-08-09 Thread FreeMinded
I guess ecryptfs has definitely it's share in this issue. I observe the
following behaviour. On login in the console there is a delay aswell if the
user has an encrypted home. With unencrypted home login is faster. This makes
somehow sense as the users home need to get decrypted. I don't know enough
about the login process to actually figure more details.
Still in my opinion there shouldn't not be delay in KDM after hiting enter. The
user should get immediate feedback that his input has been received even though
the process might take longer on encrypted home directory.

P.S. Haven't tried the same with GDM or the upcomming LightDM.

[Bug 660333] Re: akonadi start 4 services at 100% on kde login

2011-04-07 Thread FreeMinded
I can confirm this bug. Two weeks my Akonadi which I currently don't use
started to go haywire. On KDE Login there are 4 or 5 Akonadi process
running. They all fill up the memory very quickly rendering the computer
almost unresponsive. If I wait long enough the processes disapear and
the computer is usable again.

My workaround current work around is to have the Systemmonitor
autostart. Right after login the computer is still responsive which
gives me the change to kill all Akonadi processes before they clog my
RAM. Interesting is that by killing one process the other immediatly
start filling up the memory again. During this time CPU goes up to a
100%. Once memory the memory is full, CPU drops down again to only a few
percent.

This is a very annoying bug. Especially considering that I use Kubuntu
10.04 LTS because I needed usable and stable system to work with.

Let me know if I can help with further information.

[Bug 694293] [NEW] Printing PDF containing png graphic results in bad text quality (pixelized)

2010-12-25 Thread FreeMinded
Public bug reported:

When printing a PDF containing a graphic in png format the print quality of
that text is badly reduced. I realized this issue when I got a new color
printer (Brother DCP-9045CDN). Text is printed badly pixelized looking like
150dpi (without hinting). Printing the same text containing a jpg (or without)
graphic instead of a png does not show this problem and text is printed just
fine.
Printing the original document (incl png) directly from OpenOffice or printing
the PDF with png from Windows with Acrobat Reader or OSX with preview works
fine as well

Not a printer or driver issue
After some more investigation I realized that the problem also appears on other
printers (tested with Brother HL-5250 and HP LaserJet 1210). Much less
pronounced thought and therefore I haven't realized it before. Directly
comparing the print out quality of PDF with png vs. one with jpg shows a
slightly reduced text quality.

Screen rendering is fine in both cases, even when zooming in.

Is it not the application, its deeper in the stack
I used Okular to print the PDF but I also tested XPDF which shows the same
behaviour. Using Acrobat Reader it prints fine but with a lower over all
quality (looks like the document is turned into a picture before being sent to
the printer).
Without being a specialist I assume that the problem is the PDF processing
(poppler?) before its sent to the printer (Acrobat seems to use something
different there).

I can provide example documents if required as well as print out
examples.

[Bug 656631] Re: resume from suspend does not initialize the display on 2.6.35 kernel

2010-11-07 Thread FreeMinded
I have a Lenovo S10 with Kubuntu 10.10 and I'm having this suspend issue.
Computer goes to sleep as you would expect, but doesn't wake up from it. Screen
stays black (the other light go on as if everything went well). No reaction to
key strokes any more.
The GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=acpi_sleep=nonvs didn't fix it.
Is there another workaround or fix?

BTW: This issue started after some Kernel update while still on Kubuntu

[Bug 554484] [NEW] delay on login Kubuntu

2010-04-03 Thread FreeMinded
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

In Kubuntu Lucid beta (clean install, updated as of april 2) there is a
delay when login in. After typing the password and hitting enter nothing
seems to happen for a few seconds. It is even possible to continue
typing into the password field. After some seconds the login is
processed. This is not a big issue but quite annoying.

kdm 4.4.2-0ubuntu5

[Bug 540177] Re: KDM needs plymouth transition patch

2010-04-02 Thread FreeMinded
Not sure if this is somehow related to this. When login in with kdm it takes
several seconds after hitting enter for actually something to happen. The
cursor keeps blinking as if the enter key wouldn't have been hit. After a few
seconds only the login is precessed. It's nothing serious but somewhat anoying.
This is with Kubuntu Lucid updated daily. In Kubuntu 9.04 the problem does not
exist. The login is processed immediatly after hitting enter.
In case this is totally unrelated, I'm glad to create a separate bug report and
provide additional information.

Open networks kind of work. I can connect and get internet. But the Wifi
networks don't seem to get rescaned. If I change location (even to another
Hotspot within same Network SSID) or after waking from sleep I have to reboot
to get the WLAN to connect.

2009-04-12 Thread FreeMinded
I can confirm this bug. Doing it manually with sudo apt-get install
digikam works. If I can provide further information to help fix this
please let me know what you need.

[Bug 290019] Re: Laptop freezes as it wakes up after sleep, reboot needed

2008-11-08 Thread FreeMinded
I'm wondering if this problem is somehow related to Ubuntu not discovering the
right screen resolution on wide screens. See Bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/293254
Do you have that problem as well? I could imagine that the X-Server can not be
restarted correctly because of a resolution issue and hangs the whole system.
It's just an idea. I have no in depth knowledge on X or sleep mode.

[Bug 290019] Re: Laptop freezes as it wakes up after sleep, reboot needed

2008-11-03 Thread FreeMinded
Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem with a brand new Thinkpad X200. It
goes to sleep as one would expect. When reopening the lid the LEDs start
blinking and after a while the standbay LED goes off (still as
expected). Screen is dark but backlight and the mouse cursor is present
but can't be moved. Restarting of the X-Server or anything else doesn't
work. I have to hard reset and reboot to make it work again.

I can post more information about the laptop when needed. Just tell me
what you need to know and how I can get this information. Any help is
appreciated. Thanks!

2008-11-03 Thread FreeMinded
Hi,

I'm experiencing the same problem on the same machine. Also with latest Ubuntu
8.10 (as of Nov. 3, 2008)
This Bug might be related to #290019.

[Bug 293254] [NEW] Screen resolution not detected correctly (1280 x 800)

2008-11-03 Thread FreeMinded
Public bug reported:

Hi,
Today I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on a brand new Lenovo ThinkPad X200. The LiveCD
and installer did not recognize the screen resolution correctly 1024 x 768
instead of 1280 x 800. It was possible to adjust the screen resolution after
installing in Settings - Screen Resolution. But still there it was first not
possible to select the correct resolution. I had to uncheck clone output (not
sure how it is called in the english version) This allowed for selection of the
correct screen resolution (1280 x 800) but left the menubars at a strange place
(still appearing to be on a 1024 x 768 resolution) The screen resolution tool
showed to more monitors at different resolutions. Once I disabled both of them
manually, the issue with the toolbars was resolved.

Remaining Problem:
The Desktop is completely usable after this changes, but the login screen still
is on the wrong resolution. I was not successful by trying to change xorg.conf
(I'm not sure if it would help at all).
Also the guest login has still the wrong resolution.

I'm not sure but there might be a relation to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/292422

I'm happy to post more information on this issue. Please tell what AND
how I can the information.

Any help to solve this issue is highly appreciated!

[Bug 292422] Re: thinkpad x200 hangs, reboots on resuming from suspend to ram

2008-11-03 Thread FreeMinded
There might be a connect to the bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/292422 which I just
reported. Not sure but the resolution issue might cause the problem of
getting X Server to work again after resume.
