I am running karmic and am also experiencing this bug - uninstalling
frei0r-plugins resolves it. I then built frei0r-plugins from git and installed
it using checkinstall. Now, after running rhythmbox I receive the following
error:
$ rhythmbox
(rhythmbox:18793): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
I upgraded from the custom built frei0r-plugins to the official one in
the repository and rhythmbox still starts okay! I checked the package
from the repository and you were right - libgstfrei0r.so does not exist
in the official build.

I have this same issue, however the situation was a bit different. I had
a fresh install of an Ubuntu Gusty 7.10 variant (XFCE) and I simply shut
down the computer (no errors or problems) and restart the machine. On
restart, this message comes up and drops me to a root console. I cannot
start X or
So would I just have to reinstall to fix it?

I filed bug report 86635 against Herd 4 which continued to Herd 5
including every other daily build since Herd 5, they seem to be the
same.

Live CD for Herd 4 works good off the CD, but when attempting to
install to hard drive on a Toshiba Portege S100 S1133 notebook the
partitioner can not find the SATA hard drive, I than attempted to
install using the command line recommendation for using the old
installer
