[Bug 342096] Re: SD Card containing /home corrupted on resume

2014-10-02 Thread George Ingram
This was still a problem in 13.10. It started ok, but then stared happening on
13.10. I'd done a fake-pae install on an X40 so can't comment on previous
versions. It was magically 'fixed' when I upgraded to 14.04. but it just
resurfaced :/

Suspend by shutting the lid or low power and when I resume, the system has lost
track of the original mount and asks me if I want to view in file manager, as
with removeable storage.

This is a 5 year old bug, a lot of people with old notebooks boost the
storage with SD cards, it would be very nice if we could rely on them.

Mine is now mounted on /home/username/sd.

I started using it a permanent storage after 14.04 upgrade 'fixed' the
problem.

[Bug 1374761] Re: After do-release-upgrade 13.10-14.04 desktop keybindings lost

2014-10-01 Thread George Ingram
It's broken again.
Prior to my last comment, I changed the keyboard to pc-104, which seemed to fix
the alt key. It broke some other keys, so I tried some more keyboards, none of
them seem to work with alt. Now pc-104 doesn't work with alt either?

Alt-T produces a ลง in most of them

similar characters with other combincations. None of the Alt keybindings
work.

I tried apt-get purge ibus as suggested in another possibly related bug,
although I'd already fixed the US keyboard issue in settings.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus/+bug/1284635

keyboard has been perfect until 14.04 upgrade.

14.04 installed a quite a few packages during the upgrade, many of them
applications such as Pidgin and Transmission as well as system type
programs I did not previously have.

This turned out to be a keyboard map problem. Changing the map has fixed
the issue.

[Bug 1374761] [NEW] After do-release-upgrade 13.10-14.04 all keybindings lost

2014-09-27 Thread George Ingram
Public bug reported:

I have an X40 and went through the tedious process to install fake-pae
and upgrading, so it's had a few upgrades now, I think I had to start
with 11.10. I just upgraded 13.10 to 14.04.

I've lost all my keybindings. I have lubuntu-core and not much else.
LXDE and openbox are also installed, but I believe they are part of
lubuntu-core? I've tried ctrl-alt-t, ctrl-alt-d ctrl-alt-del, ctrl alt
left ctrl alt-right nothing works.

I've tried reinstalling lubuntu-core and lxde

Ctrl-c and ctrl v work in a browser, ctrl-del and ctrl insert work in LXterminal
I can't find anything that works on the desktop

lubuntu-rc is present and seemingly correct.

[Bug 1374689] Re: wifi no longer works in 14.04 after upgrade from 13.10

2014-09-27 Thread George Ingram
And for reasons that elude me, it's come back to life. I'd been using
ethernet as a temporary measure. It decided to connect wifi at some
point. Wifi has been rock solid in 13.10, as long as I had sudo service
network-manager restart in rc.local. Which is still there.

[Bug 1374689] [NEW] wifi no longer works in 14.04 after upgrade from 13.10

2014-09-26 Thread George Ingram
Public bug reported:

wifi worked briefly after upgrade to 14.04, but died. The wifi icon has also
disappeared from the system tray. Using the preferences network settings window
can't achieve anything
In previous releases, it would always wait with something like 'network
configuration not found' then waiting 60 more seconds' I've been zoning through
it for 18 monhts so o can't remember exact wording.
the wifi would come up with sudo service network-manager restart, which I
eventually put in rc.local.
I really don't fancy reinstalling 13.10 as it's a pentiumM system and the
process is tedious to say the least.

in 14.04. I cannot get wifi to function at all
