[Bug 1767652] Re: kicad on ubuntu mate 18.04 cursor ghosting (eeshcema), pcb design shrinked (pcbnew)
Please note that a typical user would try only the formal version of KiCad without adding a PPA or building from source! As Ubuntu 17.10 end of life comes this month (July 2018), and the 18.04 version is not usable, KiCad runs only on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS ! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767652 Title: kicad on ubuntu mate 18.04 cursor ghosting (eeshcema), pcb design shrinked (pcbnew) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kicad/+bug/1767652/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767652] [NEW] kicad on ubuntu mate 18.04 cursor ghosting (eeshcema), pcb design shrinked (pcbnew)
Public bug reported: On fresh install of Ubuntu Mate 18.04 LTS, the KiCad standard version (no build, no ppa) as installed via "apt install" cannot be used as the cursor (small cross or large lines) is ghosted all over the screen. Redraw fixes the schematic but next move draws again the ghosting cursor over it. Checked also pcbnew, the problem there is ghosting cursor AND shrinked image in the upper left corner of the design area. See attached pictures. At the same h/w (HP pavilion 550-100nv, AMD A10-8750, no extra graphics card, no extra graphics driver) the problem does not exist on Ubuntu Mate 17.10 with KiCad standard version for that (kicad (4.0.6+dfsg1-1). Hi Pedro Villavicencio, thanks for keeping track on old and minor bugs. Yes the 'bug' still exists as you can see at the attached screenshot. My test procedure was the same as in my initial report. There is no tricks to test it, anybody can have the same result by just formating a small USB memory stick. Especially the (!) marked point, where TWO file browsers will appear, exists on every 'right-click formatting'. [Bug 408555] Re: ZTE MF636 3G modem cannot used in Karmic
Hi Marius Kotsbak, yes my SIM and modem are working well, SIM PIN check is always disabled, my modem MF636 does NOT blink in red. I did not ever noticed a red led (I am not sure if exists), possibly we have slightly different h/w versions (that is why I mentioned my IMEI# in comment #68). At this test I did not manage to 'use' the modem. Never shown at network manager icon but /dev/ttyUSB0-1-2 were created. Looking at /var/log/daemon.log I show trials to /dev/ttyUSB1! A ZTE modem canNOT be used via /dev/ttyUSB1, the usable data port is the last created, in our case /dev/ttyUSB2. When the system cannot connect via nm mm (as above) I can connect ALL TIMES using: sudo stop network-manager sudo killall modem-manager sudo wvdial (or pppd ...) as described in many comments above and http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1202430) Concluding: It is not a modem's problem (PIN, signal, etc) but possibly a f/w or h/w variation. My opinion is that the problem is around modem-manager or a timing-problem using the LiveUSB. I can be online for 2-3 hours more for any new test (more tests tomorrow). [Bug 408555] Re: ZTE MF636 3G modem cannot used in Karmic
Hi Marius Kotsbak, as the beta 2 will be released after 3 days, I think it is better to use LL beta 2 to test it and report back. Also note that SIM PIN is always disabled. [Bug 440784] Re: after screensaver auto-complete entries NOT shown
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Auto-complete entries (display overlays?) disappear after resuming screensaver. Ubuntu 9.10 beta (updated today) gnome-screensaver version: 2.28.0-0ubuntu1 tested on EeePC 1000H with: Intel Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) and on old P4 desktop with: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AS [Radeon 9550] System Preferences Screensaver set to 1 minute (for faster tests) running Firefox Usually pressing any key into a field like 'address', 'google search', 'ubuntuforums search', 'login fields', etc. auto-complete feature suggests some entries from history. After resuming screensaver this feature does NOT show the suggested entries. You can see cursor flickering which means 'box is drawing but not shown'. Minimize - Maximize firefox window (or close and run firefox again) solves this problem. Problem EXISTS with any wallpaper, any screensaver (or blank screen) with 'Normal' and 'Extra' visual effects. NO PROBLEM when using 'None' visual effects (in both PCs tested). Test procedure used: - run firefox - wait for the screensaver to appear, leave it running for one more minute - move mouse/touchpad to resume - type any letter into 'firefox address field' cursor flickers, auto-complete suggestions NOT shown See attached image 'ScrSaver_err.png' At left is the normal situation, at right the wrong one. [Bug 408555] Re: ZTE MF636 3G modem cannot used in Karmic
Hi, just tested my MF636 on EeePC 1000H with LL daily-live of 18-Mar-2010, which connected but needs a reboot after removing/attaching modem to connect again. No more looping creation/disconnection on ttyUSBx, and no terminal freeze. kernel: 2.6.32-16-generic #25-Ubuntu modemmanager: 0.3-0ubuntu2 network-manager: 0.8-0ubuntu2 Procedure #1: - boot with the modem attached - system loads ('test Ubuntu'), click on network-manager icon, click on 'new broadband ...' to setup and connect (if 'new broadband ...' did not appear, wait some seconds and try again) - connect, browse, all OK, disconnect - remove modem - wait some seconds - attach modem - wait, click on network manager icon, 'mobile broadband connection option' is NOT there! - wait, retry above, NO mobile broadband connection. - shut down, remove LiveUSB, attach LiveUSB, boot and retry works OK. Procedure #2 - boot without the modem - wait for the system to load ('test Ubuntu') - attach modem - click on network-manager icon to see if a 'broadband connection' option exists I had to wait around 2 minutes for this option to appear - connect, browse, all OK, disconnect - remove modem - wait some seconds - attach modem - wait, click on network manager icon, 'mobile broadband connection option' is NOT there! - wait, retry above, NO mobile broadband connection. - shut down, remove LiveUSB, attach LiveUSB, boot and retry works OK. Feel free to ask any more test for further analysis (please describe full procedure). Just for reference, I tested my ZTE MF636 on my EeePC 1000H running LL LiveUSB (gnome desktop daily live of 8-Feb). Same behavior as with KK (looping attachment/disconnection of ttyUSBx). My procedure: - boot daily liveUSB (8-Feb .iso i386 desktop) - from terminal: 'sudo dmesg -c' - modem attached - green led, led off (modem switched), green led, blue led (3g found) - lsusb shows exact type/model (0031 MF636) - from terminal: 'sudo dmesg Desktop/LL_MF636_attached' Attached is the dmesg output (file LL_MF636_attached). Hi Jeremy Foshee, please note that I ran 'apport-collect -p linux 408555' on the EeePC 1000H but the problem exists also on any PC. [Bug 400573] Re: [include in live-cd] wvdial (1.60.1+nmu2)
Often new 3g modems are manufactured. All of them have a 'basic' compatible level similar to 'old-fashioned' dial up modems, the AT commands set. As wvdial is the most described connection program with a lot of examples, it is essential to include it into any release. Internet connection is the #1 need for a today's computer system. Alternative methods like pppconfig are more difficult and less documented. a simple 'search' within ubuntuforums.org can show the facts. [Bug 408555] Re: ZTE MF636 3G modem cannot used in Karmic
Hi muratsever, as your modem is identified correctly (0x0031) check IF you can have a 'steady' existance of ttyUSB0, 1 2 : - dmesg - wait 20 seconds - dmesg - wait 20 seconds - dmesg If there are no 'ttyUSB2 disconnected...' then try to 'setup a new broadband connection': - right click network manager icon - edit connections - mobile broadband - add - ... If you want to try other methods to connect like wvdial, gnome-ppp etc (you need to install them first from Synaptic Package Manager or Ubuntu Software Center) AND if you have the 'looping' creation/disconnection of ttyUSB2 you can stop network manager and kill modem manager using the procedure of comment#9 which works with beta/rc/final version of Ubuntu 9.10 (comment#3 was for earlier alphas testing versions): - boot without modem - from terminal run: sudo stop network-manager - from terminal run: sudo killall modem-manager - check that no network/modem managers are running (from terminal): ps -A | grep -i manager - use any other way to connect (wvdial, pppd command, etc) Note that wvdial, gnome-ppp and some other 'alternatives' are not included into standard distribution and must be installed separately. Most of those solutions require configuration files. Hi muratsever, always happy to see more people connected ...! [Bug 446146] Re: Huawei E169 USB dongle not working with kernel 2.6.31-12.40
Hi again, I would like to express some thoughts, just to be 'fair' and 'typical': a. this is not a 'forum' but a 'bug report system' the 'bug' reported, a fix found and it is on the way to be established b. most users above CAN FIX the problem as they involved in testing pre-released KK they/we complain about the BAD situation for a newcomer who has 3G (mobile) or land-wireless broadband as their main internet connection c. #446146 is a real BUG as in many cases the creation/disconnection of the CDROM and/or ttyUSBx is looping (dmesg has new lines) and sometimes system freezes d. this bug found 'in time' (8-Oct), discussed and confirmed at ubuntuforums.org and then reported at launchpad following the 'typical' procedure. Confirmed by developers and a patch released. This patch tested and found working (or at least 'working enough') 'in time' (12-Oct) e. Kernel Freeze came at 15-Oct without this fix! f. [Bug 446146] Re: Huawei E169 USB dongle not working with kernel 2.6.31-12.40
Hi Russell Faull, my opinion is that USB drive (virtual CDROM/ZeroCD) must exist but possibly not mounted automatically. It is not good to reject it as in the future a manufacturer may want to include any Linux (open source better) application program to control/update their modem (ex. like betavine s/w). The user can add a rule to eject/unmount it automatically. The same and more important is to get access on microSD card reader. [Bug 435267] Re: connections-problems with huawei e230
The 'suspend/resume' problem is reproducible with my Huawei E169 on EeePC1000H if I suspend without manually disconnected (from network manager icon). After resume, broadband connection option is NOT appearing at nm icon. This can be 'solved' with: sudo killall modem-manager which 'kills' modem-manager process and a new process is created automatically. After resume I checked one by one all running processes (using ps -A) before and after 'sudo killall modem-manager' and did not found any difference except the new mm process number (from #912 to #3044). The same problem rarely appears on cold boot with modem attached (3-5%) but could not be reproducible to report it. Generally it is not a 'good manner' to suspend without disconnecting first but it happens. Also most times we remove the external USB 3G modem as it could be broken accidentally. At this case the problem rarely appears (3-5% noted above) but cannot be done with internal 3g modems. [Bug 440500] [NEW] formatting a FAT16 memstick to FAT results to mixed FAT16/FAT32
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-disk-utility I am using small USB memory sticks (up to 2GB) for tests and creation of Ubuntu LiveUSBs. Ubuntu 9.10 beta (+updates 2-Oct-09) gdu-format-tool (gdu version: 2.28.0-0ubuntu2) pc: EeePC 1000H Formating a preformated FAT16 USB memory stick results to a 'mixed' FAT16/FAT32 file system (?) My test: - attach a FAT16 formated USB memory (I used a 2GB kingston DTmini) - run Disk Utility to check that it is FAT16 (attachment fat16usb) - close Disk Utility - right click on USB memory icon, and 'Format' - format it with the default 'FAT' selection - (!) TWO file browsers will appear, close them - run again Disk Utility to see the FAT16/FAT32 mode (attachment FATedUSB) Disk Utility shows on left window: 2.0 GB FAT (32-bit version) at right: FAT (32-bit version) File System Partition 1 (FAT16 (0x06)) /dev/sdb1 mounted at... as shown into Type field: FAT16 (0x06) Also right clicking on drive icon Properties shows 'Filesystem type: msdos' As I know FAT32 and FAT16 are similar but different file systems. In any way if this is not a 'technical issue', the 'confusion' is: 1. it is not clear what the result is 2. IF 'forced' to FAT32 as default option (there is a button to select other formats) the result could be FAT32/FAT32 3. term 'msdos' is not descriptive and cannot match with one gdu option Regards, George ** Affects: gnome-disk-utility (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- formatting a FAT16 memstick to FAT results to mixed FAT16/FAT32 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/440500 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 440784] [NEW] after screensaver auto-complete entries NOT shown
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Auto-complete entries (display overlays?) disappear after resuming screensaver. [Bug 428151] Re: Tray icon of bluetooth-applet not updated
I am using an EeePC 1000H which has an 'integrated' bluetooth module. You can enable/disable it via BIOS setup (pressing F2 at boot). When the bluetooth is disabled the 'bluetooth-applet' process is running but the icon is not on top panel. From System Preferences Bluetooth you can be informed that you have NO bluetooth connected (accepted as it is disabled from BIOS) . When the bluetooth is enabled from BIOS, the 'bluetooth-applet' process is running and the icon appears BUT there is no on/off menu (as described on previous posted comments). You can 'get' the 'good' menu selections doing the following: Open a terminal window, find the process number of 'bluetooth-applet', kill it, run again 'bluetooth-applet', it is running at DEBUG mode, close the terminal window: g...@kksep15:~$ ps -A | grep -i blue 283 ?00:00:00 bluetooth 2411 ?00:00:00 bluetooth-apple 2429 ?00:00:00 bluetoothd g...@kksep15:~$ sudo kill 2411 [sudo] password for g: g...@kksep15:~$ ps -A | grep -i blue 283 ?00:00:00 bluetooth 2429 ?00:00:00 bluetoothd g...@kksep15:~$ sudo bluetooth-applet ** Message: adding killswitch idx 1 state 1 ** Message: adding killswitch idx 2 state 1 ** Message: Reading of RFKILL events failed ** Message: killswitch 1 is 1 ** Message: killswitch 2 is 1 ** Message: killswitches state 1 ** Message: killswitch 1 is 1 ** Message: killswitch 2 is 1 ** Message: killswitches state 1 From this time menu selections change in a better way, on/off can be done BUT your 'actions' affect also BIOS flags! Turning off bluetooth module disable BIOS flag and in your next boot the module seems to be 'unpluged'. If a developer can fix applet to be always in the 'good menu selections' (with on/off function) it helps if also: - allow user to toggle BIOS flag (kill switch?) via System Preferences Bluetooth - OR find the higher level flag to toggle (s/w equivalent but not the BIOS one) - OR allow to force bluetooth icon always on top panel.
