[Bug 1846780] Re: okular from snap store crashes in presentation including video and audio files
Hi Paul, thank you for the message. However the bug also affects the version of okular that you can install via apt. Is that also managed by KDE? Thank you! [Bug 1821298] [NEW] Evince with beamer multimedia: video content covers slides
Public bug reported: Hi, I have been using beamer and the multimedia package for many years to play video and audio content in my slides. Until now, the only free viewer that could display the material that I am aware of was Okular. However, since Ubuntu 18.04, okular has become extremely unstable with continuous crashes, so I have given another try to Evince. Evince can display the videos just fine, but unfortunately, when the video ends, the last frame remains on top of any new slide covering the slide material. I believe this should be an easy fix. There must be some cleaning up that needs to be done at the end of the video, or when the slide is changed that is clearly not performed. For example, if I play the video and at the same time change slide, the video continues to play on top. I am using Ubuntu 18.04.1 Evince 3.28.4 texlive 2017.20180305-1 kernel 4.15.0-46-generic ** Affects: poppler (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1821298 Title: Evince with beamer multimedia: video content covers slides To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/1821298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)
I had the same issue, followed David's instructions, but I still get a rapidly expanding syslog file when I lock the screen. I am running Ubuntu 18.04.02 with gnome shell 3.28.3, dual monitor and intel graphics. Something I can see is that when locked the screens are first turned to black, then they go in sleep mode, and then they suddenly come back to life, without any input. The continue these steps cyclically. My interpretation is that the asynchronous sleep mode between the two screens triggers a change in resolution that wakes the screens up and so on. But I can't confirm that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1772677 Title: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1772677/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Hi, I believe my problem is related to this bug report. I am running Ubuntu 18.04.2 with GNOME 3.28.2, intel graphics and dual screen. The /var/log/syslog file keeps on expanding out of control. I believe this is happening when the screen is locked. If the screen is locked for a long time, it is impossible to unlock it (it becomes kind of frozen). Eventually, the syslog file fills the whole disk (it grows well beyond 100 GB) and the system does not boot any longer. Also when the screen is locked the system keeps on cycling between turning on and off the monitors. As far as I can tell from gnome-shell-extension-prefs (I am new to Gnome), I do not have any active extensions. Here are some examples from the log files: Mar 11 11:23:42 ctt73 gnome-shell[1726]: Object St.BoxLayout (0x5632e3e0ee50), has been already finalized. Impossible to set any property to it. [Bug 1630367] Re: snack does not work on tcl-tk 8.5 required by wavesurfer
Hi, I wanted to mention that yesterday we released a new version of WaveSurfer that does not require a specific version of tcl any longer. The source code is at https://sourceforge.net/projects/wavesurfer/. Updating the package to this version will probably solve a lot of problems and will no longer force users to install two versions of tcl on their computers. [Bug 1657419] Re: 16.04 Installation crashes with separate home partition
Apparently the problem was that the installation program could not cope with a RAID array that I had in the machine (but that was not used to install). I disconnected the two RAID disks, and the installation went smoothly. I wonder if this is something that can be improved: I selected the non- RAID disk for the installation, and the partitions ended up on the right disk, but something went wrong after that (possibly the installation of grub?). In one of the many attempts I received a specific error about grub-install failing on /dev/sda (that is one of the two RAID disks). However, none of the choices I got to solve the problem worked: I could choose the right disk (/dev/sdc in my case), install without grub or abort the installation, but whatever I choose, pressing OK had no effect. Also in all the other attempts, I did not receive the grub-install error, but just a generic crash report. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1657419 Title: 16.04 Installation crashes with separate home partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1657419/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The installation lets me choose the same partitions as "/" and "/home" and it gets past the definition of the user and machine. After a while it crashes without explanation. The bug did not affect me before I upgraded from 14.04 to 16.04, but around the same time I also changed one of the monitors, so I cannot tell which is the cause (reading the previous messages I suspect the cause was the change in monitor rather than the upgrade). [Bug 1630367] [NEW] snack does not work on tcl-tk 8.5 required by wavesurfer
Public bug reported: When running wavesurfer in Ubuntu 16.04 I get: Error in startup script: can't find package snack 2.2 while executing "package require snack 2.2" (file "/usr/share/tcltk/wavesurfer/wsurf/wsurf.tcl" line 9) invoked from within "_source /usr/share/tcltk/wavesurfer/wsurf/wsurf.tcl" ("uplevel" body line 1) invoked from within "uplevel _source $args" (procedure "source" line 5) invoked from within "source /usr/share/tcltk/wavesurfer/wsurf/wsurf.tcl" ("package ifneeded wsurf 1.8" script) invoked from within "package require -exact wsurf $version" (file "/usr/share/tcltk/wavesurfer/app-wavesurfer/wavesurfer.tcl" line 2578) The problem: The package wavesurfer depends on version 8.5 of tcl-tk and on snack. On Ubuntu 16.04 the default version of tcl-tk (and wish) is 8.6. Version 8.5 can be installed manually with sudo apt-get install tcl8.5 Unfortunately, libsnack will only work in tcl-tk (and wish) version 8.6. Example: > wish % puts $tcl_version 8.6 % packa req snack 2.2 > wish8.5 % puts $tcl_version 8.5 % packa req snack can't find package snack Same is also valid for tclsh and tclsh8.5. Easy fix for wavesurfer: Add the following line to the start-up script (/usr/bin/wavesurfer): - #!/bin/sh export TCLLIBPATH=/usr/lib/tcltk/snack2.2 exec /usr/share/tcltk/wavesurfer/app-wavesurfer/wavesurfer.tcl "$@" - Better solution: Modify the snack package so that snack works regardless what version of tcl-tk is used. Another better solution: make the wavesurfer package depend on tcl-tk 8.6 instead of 8.5 (this avoids installing two versions of tcl-tk) Affected packages: - wavesurfer - tcl-snack - tcl8.5 > lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Release:16.04 > apt-cache policy wavesurfer wavesurfer: Installed: 1.8.8p4-3ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.8.8p4-3ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.8.8p4-3ubuntu1 500 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status > apt-cache policy tcl-snack tcl-snack: Installed: 2.2.10.20090623-dfsg-6 Candidate: 2.2.10.20090623-dfsg-6 Version table: *** 2.2.10.20090623-dfsg-6 500 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status > apt-cache policy tcl8.5 tcl8.5: Installed: 8.5.19-1 Candidate: 8.5.19-1 Version table: *** 8.5.19-1 500 500 http://se.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: wavesurfer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1630367 Title: snack does not work on tcl-tk 8.5 required by wavesurfer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wavesurfer/+bug/1630367/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1539239] [NEW] wrong optional dependency from wish
Public bug reported: The dependencies for wish are defined as follows: either tk8.5 or wish (provided by tk) In Ubuntu 14.04, tk provides wish8.6 which is incompatible with this version of wavesurfer. So running "apt-get install wavesurfer" will install a broken program. At the moment the workaround is to explicitly install tk8.5 to make wavesurfer work. The package should depend exclusively on tk8.5, that is, you should remove the optional dependency from wish/tk. Hi, this bug was reported about a year ago, but is not yet fixed in the Ubuntu repositories (at least for 12.04). Is it normal that it should take so long? Any chances to speed up the process? [Bug 1042613] intel graphics rc6 power saving causes flickering
Hi Daniel, I hope you are the right person to contact about this upstream bug. I'll try to follow the form at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel to report it. Please consider that it's the first time I report an upstream bug :) Best, Giampiero [1.] One line summary of the problem: intel graphics rc6 power saving causes flickering [2.] Full description of the problem/report: Since RC6 power saving was enabled by default (Ubuntu 12.04), disconnecting the power cable causes flickering in the screen. The problem is solved by disabling RC6 power saving in the kernel parameters. This is done by adding i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT variable in /etc/default/grub and by running 'sudo update-grub'. The problem seems to be related to the power level that the video card sends to the screen, that seems to become comparable to the thermal noise and makes the screen loose sync. In fact, in a minority of times, I need to move the screen back and forward to trigger the problem, which made me think of a wiring problem in the beginning. However, the problem never occurs when I am connected to the power source even when I move the screen strongly. [Bug 1042613] Re: intel graphics rc6 power saving causes flickering
Hi again, after testing with a few kernels, I realized that 3.6.0-030600rc3-generic (the latest kernel) does not really solve the problem, it just makes it slightly less serious. I'll try to explain: Sometimes the flickering happens as soon as I disconnect the power cable, sometimes only when, running on battery, I move the screen of the laptop, which made me originally think it was a wiring problem. But: 1) running on power I can never get the flickering even if I move the screen around 2) most of kernels I tested start flickering as soon as I disconnect the cable 3) when the flickering starts there is usually no way to stop it but to reconnect the power 4) with 3.6.0 rc3 it seems that I can get the flickering by moving the screen but that the problem stops after some time I stop moving it The behavior in 4) may just be random, but I tested a few times and it seems consistent. I guess I'll change the tags back. I] I press the undock button and lift the laptop - kernel panic, need to disconnect the battery II] I press the undock button and disable the gigabit network card in the station with echo 0 /sys/bus/pci/slots/4/power then it works to lift the laptop, BUT if I hibernate (undocked) and resume the laptop (undocked) I get the kernel panic again 2) I start the laptop undocked I] If I dock it it seems to work (I don't recall if it finds the network card) II] If I hibernate undocked and resume in the docking station - kernel panic I believe you get all the relevant technical info from the crash report program. [Bug 319968] Re: Kernel panic with docking station
Hi, I can take a picture/video tomorrow (the docking station is in my office). From what I recall, I see the Ubuntu splash screen with the progress bar that stops progressing and the num lock and caps lock (?) start blinking. This is the same behaviour that was reported in an earlier bug. After that only disconnecting the battery works. [Bug 319968] Re: Kernel panic with docking station
This is the on of the previous bug reports I was referring to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/163211 The only reason why I started a new one (besides the claim that the bug was solved after a certain version of the kernel, which isn't true for me), is because I was following the instruction of the crash report program that started the next time I successfully booted the machine. [Bug 108643] Re: nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted(with eject) (USB connected)
Hi there, I have the opposite problem, I don't know if my problem is already mentioned in another bug report: if I run 'eject' from the command line, the volume is correctly ejected. If I right click on it and choose Eject, I get a Cannot eject volume window, and a new Nautilus window with the content of the volume pops up. This is not dependent on the kind and number of partitions as far as I can tell. I am running Feisty Fawn, with: hal 0.5.8.1-4ubuntu12 gnome-mount 0.5-2ubuntu8 nautilus 1:2.18.1-9ubuntu1 eject 2.1.4-2.1ubuntu2 Giampiero -- nautilus, media containing multiple partitions cannot be unmounted(with eject) (USB connected) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108643 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 69426] Re: after hibernate wireless doesn't work
Hi, I have the same problem with a Vaio VGN-SZ3HP. The wlan led is dead when I resume from hibernation and I do not see any network in the network manager. It doesn't help to switch off and on the wireless card (with the wireless hardware switch). The wireless network starts working again if I run sudo modprobe -r ipw3945 sudo modprobe ipw3945 Giampiero -- after hibernate wireless doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/69426 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
