[Bug 874181] Re: brltty daemon prevents creation of ttyUSB0 device link

2022-05-25 Thread Gold Star
It seems that brltty is now installed by default for Ubuntu 22.04 and
this bug prevents USB to serial adapters from working correctly out of
the box. Don't give nay-sayers a reason to no upgrade/use Ubuntu 22.04.
Thanks!

[Bug 1862553] Re: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGSEGV in cc_panel_get_title_widget()

2020-04-10 Thread Gold Star
I can reliably reproduce this bug:

1) Boot into Ubuntu 20.04 Beta
   - But will not trigger if you are signed into Ubuntu One already
   - I am booting the ISO using grml-liveboot
2) Open Settings
3) Click About (bottom of left pane)
4) Click Software Updates (bottom of right pane)
5) In the Software & Updates dialog click the Livepatch tab (last tab)
6) Wait for Livepatch to tell you that you need to sign into Ubuntu One
7) Click the Sign in... button
8) Click the Sign in / Register... button

A very similar thing happens if you keep changing the Adjust for TV
slider after each time you click the green "Apply" button so that code
path should be tested as well.

[Bug 1745345] Re: Xorg assert failure: Xorg: /usr/include/xorg/privates.h:122: dixGetPrivateAddr: Assertion `key->initialized' failed.

2020-03-24 Thread Gold Star
I would like to also mention that Ubuntu 20.04 Daily (not MATE) crashes
on Virtualbox and KVM and that, as mentioned previously, running `sudo
apt-get purge gstreamer1.0-vaapi` fixes the crash to login issue.
Another workaround is to use Ubuntu on Wayland but in Virtualbox no
mouse pointer is visible.

Both 19.04 and 19.10 have the same Disco Dingo background so I used the

[Bug 1825246] [NEW] Mysql 5.7 mysql.pid Apparmor Denial

2019-04-17 Thread Gold Star
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS, after apt purge mysql-server* then apt install
mysql-server the intallation fails because the AppArmor profile is
incomplete. Booting with kernel command line parameter apparmor=0 allows
successful install.

Running aa-logprof shows that the pid file is not in the profile based
on the following output:

Profile: /usr/sbin/mysqld
Path: /run/mysqld/mysql.pid
Mode: rw
Severity: unknown

 [1 - /run/mysqld/mysql.pid]
[(A)llow] / (D)eny / (I)gnore / (G)lob / Glob with (E)xtension / (N)ew /
Abo(r)t / (F)inish / (M)ore
Adding /run/mysqld/mysql.pid rw to profile

I just came from
https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/apparmor.html.en which links to
this bug. It appears that the real bug report already has a fix
released. I believe the Ubuntu help documentation needs updating.

Namely the following text: "This section is plagued by a bug (LP

[Bug 1670706] Re: Kernel Call Trace After Disabling an ath10k Wireless Device (Atheros QCA6174 802.11ac (rev 32))

2018-08-19 Thread Gold Star
I have the same issue with Linux Mint 19 (Ubuntu 18.04 based) using
kernel 4.15 but for QCA9377 chipset.

I compiled the 4.18 kernel using `make localmodconfig` and have the same
problem.
I had sources for kernel version 4.9.24 and it exhibits the same behavior
(failed to wake target for write32) after going to suspend and then turning
back on.

Computer is a Dell Inspiron 14 3473.

I've tried numerous debug steps like restarting network-manager,
removing mac80211 cfg80211 ath10k ath10k_core and ath10k_pci modules
then reinserting them and then restarting network-manager with no
improvement.

I have not played with "Wake on Wireless" settings yet
(https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/documentation/wowlan)

While I have the QCA9377 I do believe this post is quite relavant:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/7548331/ so I'm going to check if
that patch works for the QCA9377 and report back.

[Bug 1773515] Re: apparmor fails after removal of snapd

2018-07-26 Thread Gold Star
This has also bugged me for some number of months but the work around is really
easy -- just use
apt purge snapd
instead of
apt remove snapd

What happens is that upon removal of the snapd package, dpkg sees that
/var/lib/snapd/apparmor/snap-confine is empty and removes it which later
breaks apparmor when it tries to open that directory (as referenced by
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.real at line 11 which the log
clearly states).

Since usr.lib.snapd.snap-confine.real is a configuration file it does
not get removed during `apt remove`

[Bug 1266274] [NEW] Switching sessions: Activating current session does nothing

2014-01-05 Thread Gold Star
Public bug reported:

Coming from Windows to Kubuntu, user switching is counter-intuitive when
switching between multiple users. The problem is two fold

1) The "switch user" window does not close after selecting a user to switch to
2) The "switch user" window does not do anything if trying to activate the
current session

To reproduce issue:

1) Log in
2) In Kubuntu 13.10, Open kickoff launcher, select leave, then switch user
3) Start a new session
4) Log in to another user such as guest
5) As in step 2, select switch user menu item
6) switch back to the first session
7) Bug #1: Upon switching back to the previous session you will see the "switch
user" window (should have been closed after switching -- counter intuitive)
8) Bug #2: The user will click their desired user name and click activate but
nothing will happen when trying to activate the current session.

The user doesnt know that the session was actually changed in step 6 because of
bug #1 and despite the screen blanking, both sessions look the same.

The next user fail is in step 8 where again, the user will try to
activate the desired session again but for some reason activating the
session you are already on does nothing (not even closing the window
which would make sense)
