This problem has disappeared for me after I had re-installed Hardy Heron
completely.

Not sure what is going on but whenever I time to update my Hardy Heron Alpha 4
i get errors now.
The update-manager ends up giving me an error saying 'Can't install
'ubuntu-desktop' - It was impossible to install a required package. Please
report this as a bug'.

Everything is fixed here for me now!
Sound works great, and i don't know if it's only me but the sound is coming out
clearer and not showing the staticy high pitches it had played before on full
volume.

[hardy] lost sound when upgraded from 2.6.24-3-generic to 2.6.24-4-generic
This workaround worked for me too, expect now most videos have a
slight delay in audio/video sync, using STAC92xx.
