[Bug 1030559] [NEW] pulseaudio sound glitches when playing over network

2012-07-29 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
Public bug reported:

What I expected to happen:
Playing a flash video eg. from ted.com using chromium-browser. I forward the
application sound output via the network (using paprefs and pavucontrol). I
expect glitchfree playback via the remote pulse audio server (which is
connected with a local threaded network to the local computer).

What happens:
The sound is very choppy and/or the video stops and then fast forwards for a
couple of seconds. See example here: http://youtu.be/bv0SoMbJr9g

Step to reproduce:
Enable network forwarding (Make discoverable PulseAudio network sound devices
available locally) on the Local machine and Enable network access to local
sound devices on the remote machine.
Start a ted.com video and it will stutter. You can get the sound working again
by switching to local output device and then back to remote. This fixes the
stuttering until another video is started.

Other notes:
The stuttering only happens for flash content ie. rhythmbox works just fine.
Html5 version of youtube works (although I am not sure that it always works).
Flash content does not stutter when using local output.

At the very least it should have a tooltip with an explanation or there
should be a help button for displays.

Using icedtea-7 solves this (please note that this is only possible in
Pangolin)

2012-02-08 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
There is the same problem with
https://ebanking.danskebank.dk/html/index.html?site=DBNBENsecsystem=DI
and ALL other danish netbanking sites since they all use nemid as a provider of
security.

I can confirm the problem on mine and my girlfriends computers. (Running
Firefox 10 and Ubuntu 11.10 both fully updated)

[Bug 905698] [NEW] icedtea-plugin crashes silently because of security exception when trying to run SonicWall Virtual Office

2011-12-17 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
Public bug reported:

When trying to run SonicWall Virtual Office from Ubuntu 11.10 (Confirmed on
three installations, one of which was fresh virtual box install) the applet
fails to initialize and this is output to stderr/stdout:

(by the way; is there a way to get at the stderr output of an
application that is already running? Or do I have to restart firefox
from a terminal to get the stderr?)

The expected behavior is to get the usual confirmation window (and an
additional window asking to allow unsafe behavior). I solved the problem
temporarily by installing Sun Java as detailed in this blog post (that I
wrote):
http://randomtipsandtricks-hans.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-get-sonicwall-virtual-office.html

It seems to me that either icedtea-plugin, openjdk or both have a
problem since they crash instead of prompting for permission or just
denying it with an explanation.

Maybe deja dup should give some indication that Ubuntu One is the one to
blame in this case (maybe even retry the backup).

These problems don ot seem to occur with Ubuntu One for file sync (or
maybe file sync masks them better).

Re: [Bug 619571] Re: Empathy unable to call: e...@test.collabora.co.uk

2010-10-14 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
Hi.

I have had a call go through to echo bot at one point (I also spoke to the
guy in charge of it and apparently it had been out of order for some time).
Right now it is not working, but I am sitting at my university right now so
it could be blocked. Regarding calls to other people: I had trouble calling
one of the developers, but I have since been able to call my girlfriends
computer (running empath on Ubuntu as well) so in conclusion it seem that it
is hard to draw a conclusion. I am very busy for the time being but I can
try to test again when I have more time.

[Bug 549287] Re: rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in rb_ipod_db_get_mount_path()

2010-08-28 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
I have to same problem know with Rhythmbox 0.12.8
and I have seen this guy has the problem as well:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1498607
and this guy has the solution:
http://wolfs-ubuntu.blogspot.com/2010/06/ipod-nano-5g-on-lucid.html
but it is still a bug in Rhythmbox I guess so i'm marking New.

My problem came about after a Rhythmbox crash that corrupted the iPod.
Then I tried removing the FXX where X's are numbers from the Music
directory because the ipod couldn't recognize the music anymore. That
must mean that I am in the uninitalized state again.

Connecting indefinetely (though I can see i picture of badgers now). When

[Bug 619571] [NEW] Empathy unable to call: e...@test.collabora.co.uk with either a gtalk account or a jabber.org acount. Empathy from https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa

2010-08-17 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

I am unable to place a call to the echo test. I have tried both my gtalk
account and my jabber.org account.
I have installed the https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa packages and
I am running Lucid Lynx.
When trying to call i use the ctrl+m option and put e...@test.collabora.co.uk
in the contact id box.
The window comes up and says Forbinder... which is the danish word for
connecting...
The window stays open but noting else happens. In the terminal this is the
output:
(empathy:17344): tp-fs-DEBUG: GetSessionHandlers returned 0 sessions
and when I finally give up and close down the window it says:
(empathy:17344): tp-fs-DEBUG: tf_channel_dispose

I am happy to provide any other information you might need.
Ubuntu Lucid Lynx: 10.4
Installeret: 2.30.2-1~ppa10.04+1 (Installeret is the danish word for installed)

[Bug 561907] Re: Firefox search widget selects itself while typing

2010-07-28 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
I have the same problem. It seems that ALT-TABBING out of Firefox and
back solves the problem temporarily. It will return however, though it
is tough to say how long it takes.

Yes it is reproducible:

run cat /dev/video0 (replace video0 with your camera device)
and while that is running startup cheese.

Yes it is reproducible. I just installed qdvdauthor again and the movies
just say error and when I tried to add them and qdvdauthor crashed when I
tried to play the movie.
Does anyone have a link to a movieclip that is known to work?

I would agree, though it leaves a really bad impression of the overall
update process that 50+ packages SEEM to fail.

[Bug 284051] [NEW] Firefox can't handle 20mb jpeg from wikipedia.org

2008-10-15 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When opening:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8f/Whole_world_-_land_and_oceans_12000.jpg
 from this page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Whole_world_-_land_and_oceans_12000.jpg
Firefox tries to open it but chokes about 20% through and becomes unresponsive;
taking up over a 1GB of ram/swap. That in turns makes the system virtually
useless. I tried downloading the image and displaying it in eog. eog also had
trouble opening the picture but did way better than Firefox. Opening the
picture after it has been downloaded made Firefox able to open the picture and
display it but FF became unresponsive. I waited about 10 minutes before killing
it.

If it is an impossible task to open this picture then FF should warn
before attempting; else it should give an option save the state of
Firefox just before so that all the other tabs aren't lost.

Re: [Bug 284051] Re: Firefox can't handle 20mb jpeg from wikipedia.org

2008-10-15 Thread Hans Harhoff Andersen
I think that it will keep the swap used until Firefox is closed since
there is no reason the discard the data before another programs needs
the swap.
ie. if you press ctrl+shift+t it will open up the tab again. I am
guessing that is why it is still using the memory, but I don't really
know

The author of qdvdauthor recommends downloading the latest cvs and
