[Bug 537763] Re: Asus Eee PC 1201n: Function Keys
While function keys such as Fn+F2 still don't work, a workaround is to enable/disable this in the BIOS. ** Tags added: regression-release ** Description changed: Hello at all, I have the current Ubuntu 9.10 (Kernel 2.6.31.20). I have also a new Eee PC 1201N (that new one with dual core i3 == Atom 330m). So this is quite new. Some function keys (those special keys, that can be access with that special fn-Key.) don't work. That does actually mean that I cannot get any event, when using xev for testing. I personally would not expect to have complete functionality assiged, because they are strange somehow, but an event in general would be great. I tried several eee packages from the standard distro, but without any success. After studying other manuals I discovered that EeePC is not EeePC - they are different, especially regarding the available special keys. + WORKAROUND: + Enable/disable devices such as wireless in the BIOS, press F2 when booting. + Well to make it short: This is the list of keys on the 1201N along with a description what they should do (copied from manual) and what actually happens on Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31.20): __Zz Icon (Fn+F1):__ Places the Eee PC in suspend mode (Save-to-RAM). = Result: Works! - __Radio Tower (Fn+F2) (Wireless Models Only):__ Toggles the internal wireless LAN or Bluetooth (on selected models) ON or OFF with an on-screen-display. When enabled, the corresponding wireless indicator will light. = Result: Works not really, because the BlueTooth is not switched off. I would expect that this switch affects both modules, BT and Wireless! The above description speaks with or, but that refers to the possible configurations of the Eee PCs - and it's an inclusive OR. Another area in the manual makes this assumption quite realistic. - __Sun Down Icon (Fn+F5):__ Decreases the display brightness. - + = Result: Works! But the display brightness is not saved across logins. But that's not that important, from my personal perspective. - __Sun Up Icon (Fn+F6):__ Increases the display brightness. = Result: Same as Sun Down. - __Crossed Screen Icon (Fn+F7):__ Turns off the display backlight. = Result: Not. No reaction. - __LCD/Monitor Icons (Fn+F8):__ Toggles between the Eee PC’s LCD display and an external monitor. = Result: Can't check. At the moment I don't have an ext. monitor. - __Touchpad (Fn+F9) + Dedicated key:_ Toggles the touchpad ON/OFF. Hint: The 1201n has in fact a second key for that located at the top left, above the standard keyboard panel, which should have the same functionality - redundantly. = Result: No. Both keys show now reaction. - __Crossed Speaker Icon (Fn+F10):__ Mutes the speaker. = Result: Works! - __Volume Down Icon (Fn+F11):__ Decreases speaker volume. = Result: Works! - __Volume Up Icon (Fn+F12):__ Increases the speaker volume. = Result: Works! - __Super Hybrid Engine (Fn+Space Bar):__ Toggles among various power saving modes. The selected mode is shown on the display. = Result: Not. No reaction. - __CD Play/Pause (Fn+Arrow Down):__ During CD stop, begins CD play. During CD play, pauses CD play. = Result: Works! - __CD Stop (Fn+Arrow Up):__ During CD play: Stops CD play. = Result: Works! - __CD Skip to Previous Track (Rewind) (Fn+Arrow Left):__ During CD play, skips to the previous audio track/moviechapter. = Result: Works! - __CD Skip to Next Track (Fast Forward) (Fn+Arrow Right):__ During CD play, skips to the next audio track/movie chapter. = Result: Works! - __Fn+V:__ Toggles the camera applicaiotn ON. (on selected models) = Result: Not. No reaction. - __Fn+C:__ Toggles the screensaver ON. = Result: Not. No reaction. - So that's all for now. I could help in testing a fix for this. But please be patient, because I don't have much time. It could take some days to give feedback. [Bug 549351] [NEW] [FFe] Sync darkstat 3.0.713-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: darkstat This is mostly a bugfix release, being the first Darkstat release in over a year. The --wait workaround feature was created for bug 249038 that seems to have disappeared in Lucid, but should still be useful in case the issue reappears. I have tested the Debian 3.0.713-1 amd64 package on Ubuntu Lucid and it works just fine. I also tested two release candidates during development, along with other users of other distributions. v3.0.713 (March 2010) - Don't require --verbose for pcap_stats. - Survive interface going down on Linux. - Support DLT_RAW, implemented by Anton S. Ustyuzhanin. - Skip accounting for hosts or ports if their max is set to zero. - Implement --hexdump for troubleshooting. - Web: Implement --no-lastseen - Implement --snaplen manual override. - Fix snaplen problem on recent (1-2 years?) Linux kernels. - Implement --syslog - Implement --wait as a NetworkManager workaround. darkstat (3.0.713-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream release * Remove fetch-upstream-changelog upstream from debian/rules and remove changelog.upstream from debian/, upstream now includes this on the tarball, thanks Emil!. * Set standards-version to 3.8.4 ( no changes needed ) * Use $remote_fs on Requiired-Start at init.d script. * Update copyright info. * Remove THANKS from debian/docs upstream now include this info on AUTHORS * Remove the leading article on Description -- Rene Mayorga rmayo...@debian.org Tue, 23 Mar 2010 18:39:54 -0600 ** Affects: darkstat (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New ** Tags: upgrade ** Changed in: darkstat (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- [FFe] Sync darkstat 3.0.713-1 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549351 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
