[Bug 1723800] [NEW] Not configured correctly by default?

2017-10-15 Thread Ian Phillips
Public bug reported:

I installed vim-editorconfig like so:

sudo apt install vim-editorconfig

Then I ran vim and typed ":scriptnames" -- editorconfig was not among
them.

When I look in /usr/share, most vim plugins appear to be in the vim/
directory, but vim-editorconfig has its own directory, and vim doesn't
seem to be looking there.

Shouldn't running "apt install vim-editorconfig" make it Just Work?

2015-03-10 Thread Ian Phillips
@ochosi: Thanks for the link -- it's useful context. I didn't realize
that the switch to light-locker was that recent. Given that it was
recent and very intentional, my saying don't use light-locker as the
default doesn't seem like a very constructive route to take.

[Bug 1325228] Re: light-locker mutes audio on lock, does not un-mute

2015-03-10 Thread Ian Phillips
@ochosi

You're free to use another locker, however, this bugreport is assigned
to the wrong package.

Since light-locker seems to be the default screen locker for Xubuntu (I
might be mistaken here), I'd say this is a usability bug for Xubuntu. If
the solution is indeed to use another locker, then Xubuntu should
probably not use light-locker as the default.

Is there an appropriate place to log a bug against Xubuntu that says
Don't use light-locker as the default?

[Bug 1281813] [NEW] Allow installing ssconvert without gnome dependencies

2014-02-18 Thread Ian Phillips
Public bug reported:

ssconvert is an excellent tool and very useful for webserver
applications that need to convert documents. However, for security
reasons, I do not want to install all of the Gnome-related dependencies
on my webserver:

The following extra packages will be installed:

Yikes! Is is possible to decouple ssconvert from all of these
dependencies and have a lightweight, headless version for command-line
apps? Gnumeric itself does not appear to have this many dependencies:

[Bug 317148] Re: Firefox crashed

2009-07-15 Thread Ian Phillips
This bug is still an issue on Ubuntu 8.10. I can't describe how to
reproduce it because it seems to happen intermittently. Sometimes
firefox will work for days on end and sometimes it will crash every time
I try to visit a website (eg, Gmail), which is what it is doing today.
(I'm writing this using Opera.)

I'm running Firefox 3.0.11 on Ubuntu 8.10, and when I run it in gdb, I
get a similar stack trace to the one posted above. Let me know if you
need more information.

[Bug 99483] Enabling spell check in openoffice causes the active desktop to switch

2007-03-31 Thread Ian Phillips
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

1. Have two virtual desktops enabled, side-by-side.
2. Open OpenOffice on the left desktop.
3. Click the regular spell check button (not the underline one).

At this point, I am pushed over to my right virtual desktop, away from
the left desktop with OpenOffice running on it.

It sometimes takes OpenOffice and moves it to the right desktop as well,
although this appears to be intermittent.

[Bug 99598] [apport] gnome-volume-control crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-03-31 Thread Ian Phillips
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

Not really sure what I was doing. I double-clicked on the little
speaker icon, played with the volume settings (un-muted the capture
setting, to be specific), and then closed the window. A popup said
this program is not responding. I said wait. It went away, and
then the crash notifier appeared. I followed the instructions to submit
a crash report, and here I am!

I was playing with various Alsa/OSS settings
(System-Preferences-Sound) during all of this, trying to get my
microphone to work.
