After installing 2.02~beta2-9ubuntu1.7 on Trusty, I had to set execute
right on /etc/grub.d/00_header. Now it works normally with my lvm system
partition.
So enable proposed repository, and then:
sudo apt-get install grub-efi-amd64/trusty-proposed -t trusty-proposed
sudo chmod +x
Even without using unattended install on Ubuntu 14.04, the kernels are
marked as manually installed. This prevent apt autoremove from removing
unneeded kernel.
So I needed to do this tricks:
sudo apt-mark auto $(apt-mark showmanual | grep linux-image)
Then I can run normally:
sudo apt-get
In my case, my 15GB root partition is nearly full (btrfs filesystem df /)
whereas it only contain 7.5GB of data (du -shx /).
In fact, I just discovered
@apt-snapshot-release-upgrade-utopic-2014-10-23_23:24:46 volume (sudo btrfs
subvolume list -p /), and I guess it used the other 7.5GB.

I got better result using default lightdm greeter instead of ubuntu's one.

not listed in Settings Keyboard Shortcuts Universal Access.
It's also difficult to find Settings Universal Access Pointing and Clicking

It seams like it's fixed in saucy. I encountered the trouble in precise
and it seams it was related to X/lightdm because of MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE
it contains. It often occurs at the time I shut down the computer (the

I have encountered this bug too when I unplug and plug back the network
cable rapidly. A workaround of this trouble is to wait enough time (10
seconds) that network manager change it state *and* is ready to detect
that ethernet link came up.

Since Ubuntu team is just able to tell us to report that it doesn't work
at each single version of the kernel, waiting for upstream to fix the
trouble, I put here a workaround (tested on raring) to all those people
whose got this 100% reproducible trouble since quantal release.
Add 'nomodeset' in
@arun-ta: with text nomodeset (and without spash), it works with
Ubuntu's kernel and without xorg's PPA. However lightdm seams not be
able to start automatically anymore and I start it manually after text
login.

It's not working for me with non vanila kernel. I can see grub's nomodeset is
working (because of the shape of Ubuntu's logo) but I get a black screen when
lightdm should normally be displayed. Switch to an other VT and back to lightdm
display give me lightdm in about 16 colors, and a wrong
3.8 from raring used on quantal boot but use VESA mode (1152x768) on HP
nc6400.

I encountered the trouble in Ubuntu 12.04.1, and I removed dmraid
package during live session to get ubiquity working. The computer is
configured to use RAID in the BIOS, and switching the setting to AHCI
prevent Windows from booting, so I revert to RAID setting and remove

Since last unity update from 5.14.0-0ubuntu1 to 5.16.0-0ubuntu1, I got a
lot a flickering.
Tests I run that didn't change anything:
- start a guess session (clean unity/compiz configuration)
- upgrade x stack using xorg-edgers
- run linux 3.2 or linux 3.5 with difference
