[Bug 794447] [NEW] update-grub2 needs to *not* ignore -ec2 kernels

2011-06-08 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

In bug #671097, it was determined that update-grub2 needs to ignore -ec2
kernels. Now that Xen can boot from a grub2 configuration with pygrub,
this behaviour is actively harmful. As it is, our Ubuntu 10.04 VMs can
not manage their own kernels under Debian 6 Xen. Can #671097 be
reverted, or an override flag added to the blacklisting mechanism in
/etc/grub.d/10_linux?

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 659931] Re: Support for Java applications

2011-03-25 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 618587 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/618587

FWIW, this bug seems to be about *all* Java apps, while #618587, which
this bug is marked as a dup of, is specifically about Eclipse (or SWT
apps).

Does anyone have an idea whether the work going into supporting SWT will
benefit Swing apps (e.g. NetBeans) as well? Should I submit a separate
bug about that?

Hi,

any progress on this one? The bug seems oddly quiet for something so
visible (to me, anyway), is there a duplicate?

[Bug 449685] [NEW] After waking up from sleep, EEE 900 goes immediately back to sleep, once

2009-10-12 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

On Asus EEE 900, up to date Karmic, closing the lid makes Ubuntu sleep,
but when I open the lid and press a key, instead of waking up, Ubuntu
just wakes up for less than a second and then sleeps again. This happens
exactly once, i.e. on the second keypress it wakes completely. I
submitted this separate from bug #306310 since it has been fixed and the
symptom happened on different computers (i.e. not an EEE).

[Bug 442251] [NEW] i810 driver not found after newest Karmic updates

2009-10-04 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 431955 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/431955

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

After the newest Karmic updates (3.10.2009), Xorg.log has the following:

(II) LoadModule: i810
(WW) Warning, couldn't open module i810
(II) UnloadModule: i810
(EE) Failed to load module i810 (module does not exist, 0)
(II) LoadModule: vesa

I am using Ubuntu Netbook Remix, and I have the appropriate metapackages
installed. xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed. The desktop falls back
to vesa, which is naturally terribly slow.

[Bug 437403] [NEW] Left side button animation flickers

2009-09-26 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

On Karmic, EEE 900 (Intel graphics), the left side category button
animation flickers a bit when the mouse leaves or enters the button. It
seems like the animation is reset to its starting state for a fraction
of a second, just before it finishes. It's not terribly obvious unless
comparing with a smooth animation, like the one on the program icons.

I'll see if I can figure out how to record it.

[Bug 437404] [NEW] Can not manually add a shortcut

2009-09-26 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: netbook-launcher

Currently one can not manually add a launcher to an application, such as
a locally installed Eclipse, without a .desktop file. If one considers
the launcher a replacement for panel icons, this is a regression.

[Bug 429665] [NEW] Karmic apps keep crashing on basic_string::assign

2009-09-14 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Updated my EEE 900 to Karmic. Now Gwibber, Ubuntu Software Store and
perhaps others crash immediately when run with:

wolver...@pupupu:~ (master)$ software-store
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::length_error'
  what():  basic_string::assign
Keskeytetty (core dumped)

Apport notices this, but say it can't report it. Now it comes to me that
I should probably check if that's reported on apport yet.

[Bug 429676] [NEW] Karmic apport can't report crashes

2009-09-14 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apport

For all crashes I've experienced in Karmic, Apport just says it doesn't
support reporting the crash. Right now I can't get apport to appear at
all, so I don't remember the exact dialog text.

Not sure if Apport keeps helpful logs or anything, please ask if more
info is needed.

[Bug 383282] [NEW] When waking from sleep, Error retrieving updates window is displayed

2009-06-03 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Using up-to-date Jaunty, when my computer wakes up from a sleep that has
lasted long enough (I don't know how long exactly it needs to last), I
see a window that reads Error retrieving updates., with an OK button
and nothing else. I don't know if the window has a title, since I'm
using a tiling window manager that doesn't show them.

I will update this bug when I see the window next time with what process
it is, if I remember to check it. :)

[Bug 336064] Re: Java applications have no content when maximized

2009-05-02 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
This is most likely because Swing hardcodes a list of non-parenting
window managers. If the WM is such but is not in the Swing list, bugs
will occur. This can be fixed by setting the WM name (with e.g. wmname)
to e.g. LG3D, which is on the list.

I'd like to note that this bug makes Netbeans under Maximus useless.

[Bug 311847] Re: Stjerm doesn't receive focus when opened

2009-04-28 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
This seems to be caused by Compiz's focus stealing prevention. If you
disable that, stjerm gets focus properly. You can also add a rule to
Compiz's focus stealing prevention window matching rule (e.g. my rule is
now (any) !(name=stjerm)) to disable the prevention for stjerm.

Also, the project has an upstream bug about this issue at
http://code.google.com/p/stjerm-terminal/issues/detail?id=2 but I failed
to figure out how to link the upstream project to the Launchpad package.

[Bug 272171] Re: Firefox should not steal focus when told by another application to open a link

2009-03-18 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
This seems more important than wishlist, though I think the proper

will always steal focus.

The fix suggested works, but also changes the behaviour in that the
opened tab is no longer switched to inside Firefox.

[Bug 325108] [NEW] flickers windows when alt-tabbing on intel

2009-02-03 Thread Ilmari Vacklin
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: compiz

This doesn's seem to be exactly like any other currently reported bug on
Compiz, though it is similar to some.

On an up to date 8.10, when alt-tabbing between windows, when I release
the alt key and the window change takes place, the previous window
flashes quickly on top of the target window, even though it was
naturally hidden when I had alt pressed down and the target window was
over the source window. This is extremely annoying, especially on large
windows.

It doesn't matter whether the window is fullscreen or not.
