[Bug 1643208] [NEW] Chrome/Chromium glitch in Ubuntu 16.04

2016-11-19 Thread indy
Public bug reported:

I am experiencing glithces in Chrome and Chromium browsers under Ubuntu
16.04 (64 bit), as shown in the picture:

   https://i.stack.imgur.com/zYap0.png

My browser versions are

- Chromium 53.0.2785.143 Built on Ubuntu
- Chrome 54.0.2840.100 (64-bit)
- Firefox 49.02

Firefox does not present this issue.

I have a

VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Broadwell-U Integrated
Graphics (rev 09)

on a Thinkpad X250.

Solutions provided in http://askubuntu.com/questions/766725/annoying-
flickering-in-16-04-lts-chrome (disable GPU acceleration) do not work.

The kind of glithces are *not* like this

   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l21WsKz3fZc=youtu.be=45s

Very rarely, the same effect appears while zooming FITS images using the
saods9 package.

[Bug 1280947] [NEW] Evince freezes Unity on drag to full window

2014-02-16 Thread indy
Public bug reported:

Dragging evince from half-side to full window causes a complete freeze
of Unity.

Try out:
1) Open a PDF file
2) Drag the top bar to the right edge of the screen: the window resizes to
cover the right half of the screen
3) Quickly drag the top bar to the top edge of the screen and release: Unity
will freeze while resizing evince.

Killing Evince after passing to a console with CTR+ALT+F1 does not
resolve the problem.

This bug's status was set to invalid due to the differences of firmware

[Bug 240013] [NEW] Battle for Wesnoth packaging issues

2008-06-14 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

To install the game Battle for Wesnoth, one can install the wesnoth-
all package. But then, he doesn't get: 1) The Map Editor, a fact
which is probably OK. 2) The Wesnoth Server (wesnothd), a fact which
is not that harmful. 3) Any sounds for the game, a fact which is totally
unacceptable (you have to explicitly install the package wesnoth-music
to have any music or sound in the game). And all these issues apply for
the package wesnoth-all, as I said. The package wesnoth is far
worse. Since you install it, you don't get any of these above, plus much
more (like the basic game scenarios!). So, I suggest a better packaging
is made for Battle for Wesnoth. For example the package wesnoth
could be renamed to wesnoth-core and the packages wesnoth-all and
wesnoth-music (and maybe wesnoth-editor and wesnoth-server) could
be merged to a single package, called wesnoth. Thank you for your
time, and I wish you good luck.

[Bug 228116] [NEW] Layout Options need re-setting after each boot.

2008-05-08 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

Hello. I have set two keyboard layouts under System - Preferences -
Keyboard. The default English, and the Greek I added myself. In Layout
Options, under Layout switching, I have checked Alt+Shift change group.
And this has been working OK from Dapper Drake to Gutsy Gibbon. However,
when I upgraded to Hardy Heron, which I use now, there was a problem. I
couldn't change the layout through the specified key combination. I went
to Layout Options, Layout switching, to find out that Alt+Shift was
already checked, as normal. But Alt+Shift couldn't change my keyboard
layout, when pressed. So, I tried to un-check and re-check the Alt+Shift
checkbox. I did so, and found out that this re-checking trick worked.
I could change layout. But when I reboot (or maybe just restart X) the
problem is there again, and the solution is the same: re-checking the
Alt+Shift change group. I hope I was helpful and not confusing. Thank
you a lot, in advance.

[Bug 110375] Re: Bluetooth no longer working after upgrade to Feisty

2008-03-29 Thread Indy
Many people who dual-boot Ubuntu and Windows, say that if you download
and install the drivers from the DELL website, in Windows, bluetooth
starts working in Ubuntu, as well. Obviously, the Windows drivers enable
the bluetooth from BIOS, so, Ubuntu can recognize the onboard bluetooth.
I think the solution is to make the Ubuntu drivers able to enable the
onboard bluetooth in BIOS.

[Bug 207261] [NEW] Kernel hang during boot, around IDE detection time. Possible RAID issue

2008-03-26 Thread Indy S.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.24

After upgrading from Feisty (2.6.20) to Gutsy (2.6.22) and later Hardy
(2.6.25), the kernel from both Gutsy and Hardy hang right after detecting my
IDE devices. The last message printed on the console before hanging is the
Uniform CD Driver loading. In my Feisty kernel, the next lines printed after
the CD driver loads are about my RAID array (md-style, not LVM), so something
in the newer kernels may have broken it.
My feisty kernel continues to boot fine, but I would like to use the newer
updated kernels.

I use the following extra parameters to the kernel: root=/dev/md0 noapic
noacpi (the last 2 are due to a buggy NIC driver in the previous Ubuntu
release)

I saw some other reports about similar issue, but were related to Intel
chipsets, which I don't use. Someone marked my previous bug report a
duplicate of 154591, but IT IS DEFINITELY NOT. Since they marked it a
duplicate, nobody has bothered to look at my report and I've never
gotten any responses.

My hardware is:
Biostar TForce 4u (nForce 4 Ultra based mobo)
Athlon 64 3500+ (still using 32-bit Ubuntu though)
2GB RAM
SAMSUNG SP0411N 40GB HD (IDE Primary Master)

[Bug 207261] Re: Kernel hang during boot, around IDE detection time. Possible RAID issue

2008-03-26 Thread Indy S.
I'm using the latest 2.6.24-12-generic in the hardy repos. Yep, I've
tried with and without noapic/noacpi and with only one or the other.

The Hardy Alpha2 Live CD did boot fine (which leads me back to thinking
it's a raid issue since /dev/md0 is my root).

I'll try to take a picture when I get home, I don't remember anything
odd-looking though on the screen.

Yep, definitely RAID-related.

When I changed my root to /dev/hda1 (which is a member of my RAID), it
booted fine.

I don't see a /dev/md0 devices and cat /proc/mdstat shows now RAID
devices. I don't know what the deal with that is between kernels 2.6.20
and 2.6.22+.

[Bug 173418] Re: [Hardy] NVIDIA cards using vesa driver and low screen resolutions on livecd

2008-03-24 Thread Indy
I have the same problem. Also, after each boot, before my desktop
appears, I get a message saying that GNOME could not start in high
resolution, and the options to Configure, Continue, or Cancel. If I
Configure, I am given a menu of what video card to choose, etc, but none
works. The Plug 'N' Play is th default. I have tried to add Driver nv
to the Device section in xorg.conf and restart X, but with no luck. In
Feisty I was using nvidia-glx-new but now it seems I can't set my system
to use it again. I use nVidia GeForce FX Go5650. Also, note that I
upgraded from Feisty.

Thanks you.

Also, let me add that these characters seem to be debug messages (maybe

see the debug/warning/message console (Ctrl-Alt-F8). I believe that it
would be probably more friendly, if we did not see it. Thanks.

2007-10-23 Thread Indy S.
I know superficially my bug report looks a lot like 144030, however
there are a couple of differences:

I never get kernel panic/oops/etc., just a hang.
I tried the fixes in that bug report (renaming acpi folder, etc.), none work.
It always hangs at exactly the same spot, right after it prints out that the CD

[Bug 154825] Right-click menu does not disappear

2007-10-20 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

When I press right-click on the desktop, or in some application using
gtk (like Gedit or Xchat), and then I press left-click elsewhere within
2 seconds, there is a chance of 80%, that the right-click menu won't
disappear like normally (on any other distro, or Ubuntu version). This
causes confusion sometimes. Note, though, that does not happen in
firefox. Pressing right-click (in gtk-based apps or on desktop) and
waiting 2 seconds, and then pressing left-click elsewhere, causes the
right-click menu to disappear, normally.

[Bug 154831] vga=791 causes consoles to disappear

2007-10-20 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu does not have framebuffer support by default (tty characters do
not display small and nice). To have framebuffer in Ubuntu, I have to
put in /boot/grub/menu.lst as a kernel option, vga=791. This worked in
Feisty. But in Gutsy, this option causes the consoles (the ttys) not to
work (Ctrl-Alt-F[x] display a black screen). When I removed this kernel
option from menu.lst, the consoles appeared in the next boot, but with
no framebuffer (letters looked big and ugly). I would be glad if you
could fix this. Keep up the good work.

[Bug 129026] GNOME Weather Report custom location problem

2007-07-29 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

I decided to start using GNOME Weather Report, so I added it to my
panel. However, I found out that although it included many small
locations, towns, and even villages in Greece, it didn't include
Ioannina, one of the 5 bigger cities in Greece (and as you probably
supposed, my hometown). So, I decided to add my own, custom entry for
it, at /usr/share/gnome-applets/gweather/Locations.xml so I can be aware
of the weather conditions in my location. In the Greece element, I
added (keeping alphabetical order) the location element, with name
Ioannina, English name Ioannina, and Greek name Ιωάννινα. I added
the city code, LGIO and the coordinates. I saved, and then I selected
it through the GNOME Weather Report interface. But, it couldn't find any
information, it couldn't update, so, it didn't display me the current
weather conditions. So, please, either add Ioannina to the GNOME Weather
Report, or see why it couldn't find any information. Thanks a lot, in
advance.

I use Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn, but I also encountered this error in

the General tab, and set a Domain name. Then, try to start an

the Places menu. You will notice the delay until the application
starts. Check /etc/hosts to see what happened there. Good luck in fixing

[Bug 126775] Update Notifier does not work

2007-07-18 Thread Indy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-notifier

Although Update Notifier is enabled to run at login (I can see this
from System-Preferences-Sessions), it does not do an automatic update,
thus, it does not notify me about software updates. I have to manually
do a sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade in order to have the
latest software in my system. I found out that there is already a
similar bug report at launchpad, but the developers was saying that if
this bug occurs in Feisty or Gutsy, the bug should be reopened. I am
