[Bug 457129] Re: suspend is not triggered when laptop lid is closed

2015-11-04 Thread Istimsak
I was testing the suspend option when laptop lid is closed. When I
closed my laptop lid, waited a few seconds, and reopened it, the display
of my current open applications appeared. I did not have to press a
button to bring laptop out of suspend mode. Tried several more times,
still no suspend mode. The option "when laptop lid is closed" in the
xfce4 power manager was set to "suspend".

[Bug 1493908] [NEW] ctrl+z key combination does not restore picture to its original setting

2015-09-09 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

The shotwell testcase for ubuntu desktop has a few errors.

First, the "red-eye" edit button did not show a red circle when the
"apply" button is pressed. Instead it shows a green circle when pressed.

Second, after a picture has been cropped, the ctrl+z key combination
does not restore the image back to its current setting. When pressing
the ctrl+z combo, the rotate button begins shifting from right to left
rotate. Sometimes, it will actually rotate the image.

[Bug 1491601] [NEW] Testcase for Gnome-terminal needs editing

2015-09-02 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

I have noticed some inconsistencies with the gnome-terminal testcase and
the gnome-terminal I have installed with ubuntu 15.10.

Test-case name: gnometerminal/ter-002
This test will check that terminal colors and zoom level can be changed

Open the Terminal application
Click on Edit, select Profiles, select Edit and select "Colors"
Using the options contained in the "Colors" tab modify the color palette,
choosing some non-default colors or a different color scheme
The colors in your terminal match your modifications
Click on Edit, select Profiles, select Edit and select "Background"
Set the terminal choosing the option "Background Image"
Terminal background changes to the current wallpaper

For this tier, the only thing I was able to change were the palette
custom color themes. Clicking the colors below the custom palette
dropdown menu did not change anything.

Open the Terminal application
Press "Ctrl+Alt+T"
Is an instance of gnome-terminal with the title 'user@hostname: ~' opened, with
the current directory set to the users home directory?

ctl-alt-t did not open the gnome-terminal. shift-ctr-t opens a new tab
within an open terminal and shift-ctrl-n opens a new terminal. This
needs to be modified.

Open the Terminal application
>From the main menu select 'Terminal > Set Title...'
The Set Title dialog appears
Enter 'Test Title' and click OK
Is the title of the window now 'Test Title'?

There was no "set title" under the terminal menu. There was no option of
changing the menu title.

This testcase needs to be edit to align with the terminal pre-installed
on ubuntu 15.10.

[Bug 1459301] [NEW] NTP failed to install

2015-05-27 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

My system clock on Xubuntu 15.10 was manually setup. It did show the
correct time. I believed ntp was generally in charge of managing the
time clock. After righ-clicking the time clock on the lxpanel, clicking
properties, and clicking time and date settings, I notice my clock was
set on manual.

Once I click the configuration option, I was given to possibilities,
manual or synchronize with ntp. I selected ntp. The clock prompted that
ntp support needed to be install. The package needed was libopts25.
Once selected and the installation executed, the reported that ntp
server could not be found. The system was still installing the package
as viewed in the details window. Installation completed and I was given
the option to use ntp.

After selection ntp and restarting the computer, my system time clock
was not set to the current time. To access the Internet, my home router
requires one to login from its web-portal. I am not sure if this is
causing the issue.

I viewed the dpkg.log file and noticed that the package libopts25 was
only half installed.

Lol, misread, the system does not suspend once an external drive is

diagnosing.

That is a strange bug. The system only suspends if an external drive is
attached.

Thaddaeus, what needs to work for Xubuntu to suspend correctly?

[Bug 1418285] Re: The Help manual browser could not find program documentation

2015-05-17 Thread Istimsak
** Description changed:

The program yelp had to be manually installed after testing the
gnumeric application. After installation, and pressing the f1 button
as instructed by the test manual, a help browser window did open but it
could not find any documentation. The title of the window read,
Document not found, The URI ‘ghelp:gnumeric’ does not point to a
valid page. It looks like this help browser window acts like a search
engine for program howto manuals. Unfortunately, it could not find any.

[Bug 1446943] [NEW] Volume applet does not appear on the lxpanel

2015-04-21 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

The alsamixer is the default volume manager. However, it does not
properly manage the volume. When playing a video from youtube with
gstreamer installed, no soud was heard. Even after increasing the
volume, nothing. The lxpanel would not display the volume controller.

Alsa-base was removed and pulseaudio was installed instead. Still not
volume applet could be shown on the panel. No pulseaudio controller was
found in the Sound and Video app menu. Pulseaudio was executed from
the terminal which gave this output,

[Bug 1445622] Re: Trash directory unable to be found

Though this is a bug, the fact that one can still delete a file is good.
That is what is important. Another thing that came to mind, what rates
this bug high. Is there a security risk associated with this issue?

Re: [Bug 1445622] Re: [Xubuntu vivid daily] Trash directory unable to be found

2015-04-19 Thread Istimsak
I see gvfs-trash file on Xubuntu. I read the gvfs-man page and found this
paragraph,

trash sends files or directories to the Trashcan. This can be a
different folder depending on where the file is located, and not all file
systems support this concept. In the common case that the file lives inside
a users home directory, the trash folder is $XDG_DATA_HOME/Trash.

There was no variable named $XDG_DATA_HOME/Trash.

I am thinking, gvfs was unable to label the file as located in trash. Wish

using thunar.

Now that the issue shows up in lubuntu means the problem is more that the
file manager.

Definitely not Thunar - that's just what is showing the issue up for

[Bug 1441843] Re: X server fails to start on post-final Beta Lubuntu Vivid desktop images due to missing xserver-xorg-video-all package

2015-04-15 Thread Istimsak
After looking up the definition of this package on the debian packages
site, https://packages.debian.org/squeeze/xserver-xorg-video-all, it
says this package depends on the full suite of output drivers for Xorg X
server. It does not provide any drivers itself but can be removed if the
user requires certain drivers.

If it does not provide any drivers itself, why is it needed? It sounds
as if this package acts like a container holding a bunch of output
drivers for the Xserver. If so, a distribution developed with this
package depends on the drivers from this package. Removing this package
will cause the Xserver to fail, just like what I was experiencing.

This package holds all, or the required drivers for Xserver to operate
on any GPU device that is supports, I am inferring.

Fill in the blanks, of course. Just get rid of what was there before. It
 will be archived.

From what we have found on the other bug, it seems that it only affects
Lubuntu (though MATE and Kylin haven't been tested, for example).

Re: [Bug 1344817] Re: Console applications in the menu do not open correctly

2015-04-11 Thread Istimsak
I read in the error log that pcmanfm could not find the file. Could this be
a broken path that pcman was unable to find? If so, how is pcmanfm
configured to finds apps and executed them in its browser window, which is
how I believe the application was being accessed.

I think this doesn't only effect the menu in pcmanfm but if you install

get the same thing in the rare case of the oem-config-repair desktop

Re: [Bug 1409209] Re: After installing Lubuntu from USB stick, GRUB mistakenly lists Lubuntu as Ubuntu

2015-03-19 Thread Istimsak
It would still be ideal to give the name of the ubuntu flavor installed.
The is the same and most applications from one DE will work on others. If
you are installing more one flavor of Ubuntu then this will be a problem.
For testers like us, this would make things easier. For a new user,
hopefully they don't install more than one flavor, should be fine with just
Ubuntu. To the developers, they are all the same.
On Mar 19, 2015 1:30 AM, Walter Lapchynski w...@ubuntu.com wrote:

I don't disagree with you, but I'm saying that Ubuntu is a unique
animal. Fedora, RHEL, and CentOS are all sort of separate bedfellows,
much in the way that Debian, Ubuntu and Mint are. But none of the above
*except* Ubuntu has all these different flavors. Still, Ubuntu is
Ubuntu. Kubuntu is Ubuntu, Lubuntu is Ubuntu, Snappy Core is Ubuntu,
etc. So it makes sense for lsb_release to show Ubuntu and not all these
 others more specific variations.

The reason I mentioned the odd case of changing desktop environments is
because it happens all the time. People who started out with Ubuntu come
crawling over to #lubuntu for help because in their mind, they have
Lubuntu. That's why I brought that up. It's important to consider such
ideas holistically and make changes that work generally, especially when
we're talking about something that ultimately affects every single
flavor. For that matter, what other infrastructure is available to
ensure that this is updated? I have no clue, so I'd be concerned about
 messing with it.

All I'm saying is this is the way it's been for a long time. Maybe
Kubuntu and Xubuntu do it differently, but that's not been my experience
(see xubuntu-default-settings and kubuntu-settings). That is why it's
Won't Fix. Maybe it would be better to call it an Opinion (done).

I will say that it appears lsb_release gets its info from /etc/lsb-
release so potentially this could be maintained separately. With that, I
would talk to the GRUB team and see what they think about the
implications of such a thing. Needless to say, since this is not a
ubiquity bug, I'm refiling it against grub2.

Re: [Bug 1409209] Re: After installing Lubuntu from USB stick, GRUB mistakenly lists Lubuntu as Ubuntu

2015-03-18 Thread Istimsak
Thanks Walter.
On Mar 18, 2015 2:01 PM, Walter Lapchynski w...@ubuntu.com wrote:

As far as I know, this is par for the course and how it has been for a
long time, particularly because many of the GRUB settings are inherited
from Ubuntu. You get the same result out of `lsb_release`. It may not be
ideal, but this is how it is.

As I hope you all know, `update-grub` pulls from /etc/default/grub and
 /etc/grub.d. Currently, the former specifies
 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2 /dev/null || echo Debian` which
will ultimately result in using Ubuntu. It's not clear what package
this comes from (`apt-file find /etc/default/grub` fails to find it), so
that will make it hard to fix in any permanent fashion.

My guess, though, is that if you look upstream in Debian, you'll find it
has the same specification. That being said, I'd say that this is going
to be darn hard to fix.

Additionally, I would repeat the old Lubuntu motto: Lubuntu *IS*
Ubuntu. You can build it off of a regular Ubuntu distro, it uses the
Ubuntu repos, etc. It's Ubuntu. So it makes sense to keep it as is.

Consider this, too: what if you take your Lubuntu and strip out all the
Lubuntu bits and install all the Xubuntu bits. What should GRUB call it
now? More importantly: how would it know which one it is automatically?
So really, the issue is that there's no great way to fix this that's
going to work for all scenarios.

Because of that, I'm going to call this Won't Fix.

If you would like a solution, please change the GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR string
in /etc/default/grub and run `update-grub`. Something like
 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=Lubuntu would be reasonable.

[Bug 1409209] Re: After installing Lubuntu from USB stick, GRUB mistakenly lists Lubuntu as Ubuntu

2015-03-18 Thread Istimsak
Yes, Lubuntu is listed as Ubuntu in the grub boot menu. Not sure why
that is. Perhaps that was intended but it make distinguishing OS in the
menu.

What I did was edit the grub.cfg file under the path /boot/grub/grb.cfg.
There, I changed the names of all OSs to something specific. You could
do the samething if you want to be able to tell the difference between
OSes.

2015-03-18 Thread Istimsak
Phillw, you can disable ibus with the lxpolicykit?
Can someone please confirm that lubuntu-software-center AND ubuntu-
software-center work fine in Xubuntu and Kubuntu? If so, then it's
clearly an LXDE setup issue. For that matter, you could probably just
install xubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop, I imagine.

Also can we confirm the fix? If so, we need to find out which was the last
version that actually worked right. Then we can look at the code and try to
figure out where the problem lies:

[Bug 1432843] Re: Lubuntu failed to boot

2015-03-17 Thread Istimsak
It seems the issue is with Xorg version 1:7.7. This is the version that
the 64bit spin of 20150317 is using. Could not get the version from the
32bit system. During boot, and after pressing ctrl+esc, the boot
procedure stopped at acounts-dameon.services and the screen started
blinking. I pressed ctrl+alt+f4 to get to the shell. After logging in,
typed startx and the system tried to load the Xserver. It only
displayed an internal error message and notification of available wi-
fi networks, nothing else. Moving this bug to confirmed.

HP 2000 laptop. I was installing using a 16GB flash drive that was not
reformated. I used unetbootin to burn the image but I did not make sure the

Not sure if this was the problem or a complete x stack overhual. Right
now the 64bit spin works.

[Bug 1432843] [NEW] Lubuntu failed to boot

2015-03-16 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

The daily build of Lubuntu 20150316 failed to boot into the live
session, and fails to install. During the boot session, the Lubuntu
splash screen appears indicating that Lubuntu was loading. What follows
next was a blank screen.

Unfortunately, I cannot sumit the exact version of syslinux since the
daily build could not boot into an interactive session.

Re: [Bug 1430189] Re: bracket typo in lxsession-default

2015-03-10 Thread Istimsak
Is it possible this bug was fixed with the newer releases of Lubuntu?
On Mar 10, 2015 10:35 AM, Dave Kokandy drkoka...@gmail.com wrote:

Thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. 13.10 reached EOL on July 17,
 2014.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

The missing spaces you mention no longer appear to be present in the
 upstream source: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/lxde/lxsession/master
 /lxsession-default/lxsession-default

Upgrading to a currently supported version of Lubuntu may fix this bug.
If you could, please retest using a currently supported version of
Lubuntu and see if you can recreate this issue.

I've tried testing the second half on the development release, vivid, but
was unable to, given the information you've provided. I'm unclear on the
issue. Please upgrade to Utopic and re-test. If the bug is still
reproducible, increase the verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can
 try again. Provide at least:
 1. What behavior you would expect when running lxsession-default
 file_manager
 2. What behavior you actually encounter (caused by the line being what it
 is)

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1428727] [NEW] dbus gave an error when trying to install language translation components

2015-03-05 Thread Istimsak
Public bug reported:

After installer the new daily image of Lubuntu 15.04, upon reboot, a
window appeared informing me that that language I was using (english-us)
was missing some language translation components. The displayed a button
run this action now to install the missing components. After runing
through all the steps that the wizard walked me through, I got this
error org.freedesktop.PolicyKit.Error.Failed: ('system-bus-name',
{'name': ':1.56'}): org.debian.apt.install-or-remove-packages. Not
sure that to make of this error or what part of the system it is
referring to. I will make an educated guess based on oservation that the
installer did not get the required permission to install the needed
pacakages, yet it never asked for any. Also, I don't know what package
to install manually. Sorry for not giving a screen shot of the window
that appeared.

langauge to select during system install. I am using the latest build of
