Stopping avahi-daemon doesn't solve the issue for me. Connecting to a FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7170 (mode 'WPA+WPA2') keeps asking for authentication and does not result in a connection. As far as I could think of I don't have anything extraordinary on this system. All I could think of is that I'm using the proprietary nvidia driver. From non-ubuntu repositories there is only the skype package and a libdvdcss2. Doesn't seem anything special. Actually this Debian bug 337526 describes a crash when registering a new user, the issue described here is a crash when the last user logs out. Although both issues seem related to the compiler used, they are not exactly same. Also I experienced these crashes after last user logs out since I upgraded to dapper.
