[Bug 1340376] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E540] Suspend Failure

2014-07-22 Thread Jörn Horstmann
That instructions could have been a bit more clear on what the correct
upstream mailing list was.

I first tried on linux-usb (http://marc.info/?l=linux-
usbm=140534633328101w=2) and got pointed to linux-pm
(http://marc.info/?l=linux-usbm=140535047629911w=2) where I was
instructed to file a bug in bugzilla (http://marc.info/?l=linux-
pmm=140542653722449w=2).

The information from the form described at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel was included in the mailing
list posts and is also attached to bugzilla. If there is any information
still missing please let me know.

[Bug 1340376] [NEW] Suspend Failure on Thinkpad E540 20C6CTO1WW

2014-07-10 Thread Jörn Horstmann
Public bug reported:

The laptop failed to suspend, screen went black but the fan stayed on.
Resume was not possible.

This is probably the same issue as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1331077 but since
my hardware seems slightly different this is a new report.

The issue seems somehow related to usb 3 support, with usb 3 disabled in
the bios suspend and resume works.

The suspend problem still occurs with mainline kernel-3.16-rc4, let me
know if you need logs from any other kernel version.

2014-07-05 Thread Jörn Horstmann
This bug also affects me on an E540 with model number 20C6CTO1WW and
Bios 2.07. A workaround for me is disabling usb 3.0 in the bios - after
that suspend and resume work fine. Should I still open a new bug report
with my exact hardware details?

[Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date

2011-08-15 Thread Jörn Horstmann
I noticed this might be related to subpixel smoothing. When switching to
monochrome font rendering the size of the label exactly matches the
calculated size found in the logs. With subpixel smoothing enabled the
label seems to be a bit wider.

[Bug 730476] Re: Part of the time appears cut off when displaying the day of the week and date

2011-08-15 Thread Jörn Horstmann
Ok, in my case it was a different problem. I had configured language
support to display numbers and dates in german, with an otherwise
english installation. My custom date format included the name of the
day. The indicator applet was then using one locale to measure the
maximum size of the string, and another to actually render the string.

In the code, measuring is done using the strftime function while the
rendering uses g_date_time_format. It seems these two functions use
different parts of the locale settings.

I hacked the code to use g_date_time_format in both cases and it is now
displaying correctly for me.

** Patch added: Use g_date_time_format instead of strftime for measuring

[Bug 195848] Re: vpnc with Hybrid-Auth enabled?

2009-07-12 Thread Jörn Horstmann
Thank you for your work on this bug. I just tested the patch on ubuntu
jaunty with our corporate vpn using hybrid authentication and it seems
to work fine. It would be great if this worked out of the box in karmic.

[Bug 380009] Re: [Needs quirk] Huge font in GDM on HP Compaq nc8430

2009-05-24 Thread Jörn Horstmann
The attached patch against xorg-server_1.6.0-0ubuntu14 fixes the problem
for me. This is my first time working with debian patches and quilt, so
please correct me if anything is wrong with this patch.
