[Bug 1969986] [NEW] AMDGPU driver confused by two AMD GPUs

2022-04-22 Thread J-B Vosteen
Public bug reported:

When I start a game (Surviving Mars) via Steam the framerates are
abysmal, somewhere between 10 to 20 fps. On 17.4.22 it still hit 60 fps.

When my screen is attached to the 6600 XT card and the game is running,
the following can be seen:

jan-bart@barts-tuxbox:/sys$ cat
./devices/pci:00/:00:01.1/:10:00.0/:11:00.0/:12:00.0/pp_dpm_sclk
0: 500Mhz
1: 700Mhz *
2: 2900Mhz
jan-bart@barts-tuxbox:/sys$ cat
./devices/pci:00/:00:08.1/:30:00.0/pp_dpm_sclk
0: 200Mhz
1: 700Mhz
2: 2000Mhz *
jan-bart@barts-tuxbox:/sys$ lspci | grep VGA
12:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Navi

30:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Cezanne (rev c8)

For some reason the clock of the unused graphics device is increased.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04

2020-04-28 Thread J. B. Rainsberger
For the benefit of bystanders who might be using the Clipboard Indicator
extension to Gnome, I've switched to CopyQ and been quite happy with the
results. I'll know more in the next 2-3 weeks whether this problem
persists in my environment when I complete my next expense report.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone involved in trying to diagnose and
fix this problem. I share many people's frustrations about not getting a
version of Mutter that seems to work, especially since it seems beyond
me to try to upgrade Mutter independently of the rest of the operating
system in order to evaluate the results. Coupling!

[Bug 1295247] Re: Cheese says There was an error playing video from webcam

2015-06-06 Thread J B
A workaround is to use vlc.

Use Open new streaming device
set Video input: /dev/video0
Click the open button.

You can take photos using Video - Take snapshot. They will land in
~/Pictures/ as vlcsnap*

[Bug 1242921] [NEW] totem window height depends on mp3 comment field

2013-10-21 Thread J-B Vosteen
Public bug reported:

If i play a certain mp3-file the height of the totem window can not be
adjusted below a very high value. My screen has a height of 1050px and
the totem window has at least a height of 1000px.

I consider this a bug, since the minimal height of the totem window
depends on the length of the comment field of a mp3-file.

In the attachment is the tag information for the mp3-file as reported by
exiftool. Sadly i have no idea how to write this information to
another mp3-file. If you are not able to recreate the bug with the
supplied information, i would supply the original mp3-file in private.

[Bug 261595]

2013-09-05 Thread J B
Hi Irving, thanks for the review.
For some reason I did not get/read the notification email from Mozilla.
I, too, noticed that there are other places which would deserve attention and
use of a similar function. However, I would prefer this patch to go through
first, and that we make another bug to (1) identify those code segments/files,
(2) discuss the appropriate solution for each and, then, (3) write a patch,
which I can help with.
So I would ask for this patch to go through as is, since you indicated it is ok.

[Bug 261595]

2013-05-31 Thread J B
Created attachment 756486
Write updated popstate in tempfile first, then move over

As in Bug 246675, using NS_NewSafeLocalFileOutputStream now, which is an
existing implementation that writes to a temp file first.

I verified that this patch works using strace and filling the disk.
Writing to the temp file fails, and rename is not done, preserving the
original file.

I think MsgNewSafeBufferedFileOutputStream should now be used in a
number of other places. Please review.

proposed criterion could be implemented.

I think writing the new content of popstate.dat to a temporary file and
then moving it over would be saner, because then you can never enter a
corrupt state. This bug may be more closely related to Bug 263142 than
Bug 789679 (new dep?), and pehaps can be resolved together.

[Bug 261595]

2013-05-30 Thread J B
Created attachment 756290
Write updated popstate in tempfile first, then move over

Can't reproduce disk full bug using this patch.
Can reproduce disk full bug without this patch.
Move does not fail when the disk is full.

For testing, the disk must be filled up between connecting to the server
and closing the connection, because Thunderbird does not try to fetch
new messages anymore if the disk is full.

I just now saw Bug 246675 is the right approach. Will make an update

[Bug 1184113] [NEW] xorg and onbord intel fails

2013-05-25 Thread j b guldmand
Public bug reported:

after udating to 13.04 i can bot but gui isn't running
i normally used gdm / lightdm nothing seems to work now.

on normal startup i end up at a blue striped background that after a while
fades to a complete black screen. (i think i got it back after an gdm update a
while ago)i can switch to terminal and login as my user.
i have tried a lot of things, tried to switch graphical display manager, tried
to reinstall stuff like ubuntu-desktop and so on.

When i run Recovery Mode, and try boot up in faillsafe graphics i get
the message to choose what settings to use. (something like reset
settings, summary of error ..) In this window i have no mouse, and i
cannot navigate with the keyboard.

[Bug 1126002] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 Nvidia (Geforce G210m) Fail

2013-02-17 Thread j b guldmand
Here is a little update on how i disabled intel card and fixed the bug
(wtith x / nvidia-settings) ...

This should be done from a terminal without a gui running so either do it via
1) recovery mode terminal as root or 2) logout alt+ctrl+f1
..if a sudo command isnt accepted run it as root with gksu (or gksudo)

1)Changed (downgrade) kernel to supported version (i do it using grub since my
linux-headers-3.7.0.7-generic is not supported by nvidia drivers yet)
2)Remove all existing nvidia drivers // using sudo apt-get purge
3)Disable Intel gfx in bios (on my asus ul30vt its done by changing IDE
CONFIGURATION to compatible)
4)Install nvidia driver (i chose nvidia-current-updates, but any driver will do)
5)sudo update-alternatives –config gl_conf
6)sudo ldconfig
7)sudo update-initramfs -u
8)Configure your xorg.conf
9)sudo nvidia-xconfig
10)Reboot

And ubuntu will boot up with nvidia gfx running, showing a NVIDIA
SPLASH SCREEN just after userlogin!

So Dave Lentz, it could be done without bumblebee, although I must say it was a
bit harder than just reinstalling bumblebee.
The check i mentioned, was something like this:
(I'm not really sure what hardware check you're referring to and why it would
check the laptop vendor.)
//I do this by memory so it may not be 100% correct

enable: nvidia-current-updates
...
INFO: enable nvidia-current-updates

Unloading nvidia-current-updates

Imo it should be an option to disable the intel card totally via a
terminal command, to force the accept of the nvidia-xconfig since
everything works perfect the second the intelcard hardware isnt detected
by the system

:)

[Bug 1126002] [NEW] Ubuntu 12.10 Nvidia (Geforce G210m) Fail

2013-02-15 Thread j b guldmand
Public bug reported:

since 12.10 i'we experienced alot of gfx problems
My computer is the ASUS ul30vt (64bit) with 2 gfx cards. one nvidia g210m and
one onboard intel.

- gfx is being run by onboard intel graphic card, cannot turn on/install nvidia
driver for g210m
- when able to update headers i got this error when loged on:

Could not apply the stored configuration for the monitor
none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes:
Trying modes for CRTC 63
CRTC 63: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 0)
CRTC 63: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 1)
Trying modes for CRTC 64
CRTC 64: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 0)
CRTC 64: trying mode 640x480@60Hz with output at 1366x768@60Hz (pass 1)

The onboard display setup is bad, so i try to install nvidia-current,
nvidia-common, nvidia-settings.
When i run the nvidia-settings i get promted with this error:

You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X
configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the
X server.

... Ive got onboard gfx working now via the Recovery Mode!
but i still can't install nvidia gfx driver, so im stuck with gfx bug, slow
loading/bootup, and bad screen destop resolutions.

[Bug 1126002] Re: Ubuntu 12.10 Nvidia (Geforce G210m) Fail

2013-02-15 Thread j b guldmand
Thanks for your reply Dave Lents

Before ubuntu 12.10 i had Bumblebee installed, with glxgear(low fps) /
'optirun glxgear' (highfps) working.
However i wish to only run my nvidia graphic card, and completly disable the
onboard intel gfx, for improved performance and since my laptop battery isn't
an issue.

I also had some problems earlyer, while using bumblebee, where the
nvidia-current got enabled/installed, only to be disabled straight after due to
the fact that the hardware check fails cuz im on a ASUStek computer and the
checker only knows DELL XPS and Lennovo computers with the Nvidia g210m.
+ The Bumblebee-gnome-extentsion-indicator also didnt work either So i
ended up removing Bumblebee

I know, the nvidia-card only driver was working correctly with onboard gfx
disabled some time ago
- This is what i am trying to re-establish instead of using bumblebee

[Bug 1043733] [NEW] New Wacom 22HD tablet not recognised

2012-08-30 Thread j-b-m
Public bug reported:

The new Cintiq 22HD from wacom is not recognised by the current Quantal kernel.
Support has been added into upstream kernel, and could be easily backported to
Ubuntu's kernel using this patch from Ping Cheng:
https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/1180341/

I have a Cintiq 22HD device and can confirm that with this patch (and
using latest xf86-input) the device is supported in Quantal. Let me know
if I can do anything else to help.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

good thing we get the link though.
might even load faster than the changelog if the browser's already open.

though having the changelog there in update manager is still more intuitive.
been missing it for several update days already.

[Bug 997248] Re: Inconsistency in decimal point for es_MX locale

2012-05-13 Thread j-b-m
The same problem affects the Nicaragua's locale file (es_NI.UTF-8).
Nicaragua seems to use a dot as decimal separator, not a comma (*). This
causes problems in my application (Kdenlive) that is based on Qt, which
uses the correct decimal separator (a dot).

I don't understand why this langpack-locales package does not use the
values from the Common Unicode Repository (http://cldr.unicode.org/),
because it is not the first problem I notice (see issue #887395 ) and I
saw several similar issues reported here...

(*) I did a quick search, could not find an official document but
Wikipedia, Microsoft and the Unicode Repository all agree on the fact
that Nicaragua uses a dot as decimal separator

[Bug 966248] Re: USB3.0 Ports Not Working

2012-03-30 Thread J B
on a vostro 3550 with single usb3 port, after plugging in portable usb3
drive it IS recognized. right after loading a CD into drive, usb3
portable drive is no longer detected by ubuntu. like it was
disconnected.

this can be one more thing that you could test with the newer kernel, Solomon,
to see if the port cuts out unexpectedly.

does not happen in msWin.
have not tried the upstream kernel yet.
current updates on the 12.04 beta.

pc still running which is good. hopefully no updates that will make
systems unusable.

actually just had one, but it was because amd/ati radeon binary driver
was installed manually. fixed by promptly reinstalling with --force

[Bug 958959] [NEW] tremulous exits but does not restore desktop resolution ubuntu 12.04 x64

2012-03-18 Thread J B
Public bug reported:

ubuntu 12.04 beta1, current dist-upgrade, updates

great tremulous still works!

but itsy bitsy bug: after exiting, desktop resolution stays the same as
the resolution in tremulous (which does not have the native resolution
of current wide screen), meaning it looks square with black borders on
the left and the right.

good thing ubuntu still works and im typing this now on square but
responsive screen.

Workaround: go to displays and set the resolution back.

Maybe this has something to do with ubuntu's having less screen resolution
changes (which is really good!)
or because ubuntu's still in beta.

im using ati Radeon 6600M
OpenGL version string: 4.2.11554

bug was there when using default drivers, even before installing the
catalyst driver. Using default drivers, tremulous crashed when changing
resolution in-game.

Replicate:
- run tremulous
- connect to a server
- press escape, click options, check that resolution is different from your
native resolution in desktop.
- exit tremulous.
- see if desktop resolution goes back to native.

** Affects: tremulous (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

[Bug 616721] Re: update-manager crashed with DBusException in update()

2011-12-15 Thread J B
I am a 0day convert to the Linux world, and ran into this problem
yesterday. Installing via Wubi download most recent version, 64 bit on
all new/recent hardware. I also ran into many other problems -
installing ATI driver (I know, not supported) would not work, Firefox
acted real funny, Software manager lagging/not functioning properly, and
another random crash I cannot remember (python something?)...

Anyhow, I tried a few different install methods, and found one that
worked for me, to freshly install without this problem (or any of the
other ones) occurring, and now everything is running perfectly.

All I did was disconnect my internet, burn the 11.10 amd64 ISO to a DVD,
and Install Inside Windows (which is crucial to my conversion plan
right now). This seems to end up doing most of the installation after
the reboot (still not connected to internet). After getting to desktop,
I rebooted again to be sure (My MS habits are going to take some time to
change), and then ran update manager, which seemed to download way more
data than the previous install and subsequent terminal update methods
(almost 100 MB more after adding all totals). No crashing, all good and
very fast/responsive.

Anyhow, I don't know if this is helpful, but since everything works
perfect for me now I wanted to give back to the community since that is
how I understand things get done around here. This is how I solved the
problem for me (and many other unexpected ones I could only feel had to
be related somehow but wouldn't know where to look yet).

If this post was not useful, I am open to criticism on where to go/what
to read to get more up to speed. Similarly, I'd be happy to recreate the
original error for further testing/feedback if needed, but still kinda
clueless to this side of things. Trying to learn quickly.

Cheers,
Jason

[Bug 896496] [NEW] No 'Skip All' Button When Copying Files of Large Quantity

2011-11-25 Thread J B
Public bug reported:

'Skip All' button comes in useful when copying over files of large
quantities and no overwrite of existing files in destination is desired.

I know it's a feature request.。。
But it seems less like a 'brainstorm' and more of a launchpad thing.

to implement:
- add a button to the duplicates dialog window 'Skip All'
- link the button to copy command options that skips overwriting existing files
(or look at how nautilus implements it)

thunar already has a SKIP button. why not add a 'skip all'?

[Bug 887395] [NEW] en_ZA locale decimal point inconsistency

2011-11-07 Thread j-b-m
Public bug reported:

In the locales package, the file en_ZA (for South Africa) gives a dot
'.' as decimal point. However, the Qt library gives a comma ',' as
decimal point. This creates problems when a Qt program is trying to
communicate with a non Qt program since the decimal point is not the
same, numbers are not correctly recognized.

After doing some searching, Qt (see
http://developer.qt.nokia.com/wiki/QtLocales) takes its locale information from
cldr.unicode.org:
http://unicode.org/cldr/trac/browser/tags/release-2-0-1/posix/en_ZA.UTF-8.src

This page gives a comma as decimal separator. So does Wikipedia (see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decimal_mark - note that a footnote seems
to indicate that this may be a recent official decision).

Having 2 different definitions for the decimal point on the same system
can only lead to problems.

[Bug 221409] Re: Ubuntu Browse Multiple Files dialog does not recognize capital / uppercase JPG as image

2011-11-01 Thread J B
still present on ubuntu 10.04 lucid.

specs:
nautilus file browser 2.30.1 - not sure if this is used by firefox
flash 11.0.1.152

on both
firefox 7.0.1
chromium 15.0.874.106

i thought linux didnt depend on file extensions.
(i guess it doesnt when running a file, but it does when filtering file
displays in the file manager)

tried to replicate on xubuntu 11.10, the first time i clicked on button, filter
is set to 'ALL FILES' and files can be seen.
(but multiple files can't be selected, when they are expected to be selectable
holding down shift -works on windows)
only single file selectable.
clicked cancel tried again.
this time filter is set to Images and cant be changed.
No more images displayed. same problem.

All images have .JPG extension. which is what a lot of cameras are producing.
guess workaround is rename. but this won't be as straightforward for other
users.

xubuntu file manager: thunar 1.2.3 not sure if firefox uses this

same problem, only .jpg files are visible.

important because photos from different cameras produce .JPG

guess another workaround (but not as feasible :) ), ask everyone to only
use .jpg as extension.

wouldn't it be simpler to just add .JPG to the Images filter in whatever
filter the internet browsers are using?

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-22 Thread j-b-m
Good news! I was able to make my 2 wacom devices (touchscreen and
Intuos2) work correctly in Krita using the attached patch against Qt.
Chase Douglas was right about Qt incorrectly using the recieved events
because not all axis are sent. I simply updated Jussi's patches like
that:

Instead of just checking the upper limit of the axis index:

if (xIndex  maxIndex)

I check both upper and lower limits:

if (xIndex = firstAxis xIndex maxIndex)

If the index of the axis is inside the range, we use the value,
otherwise we put the last recieved value.

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-21 Thread j-b-m
I had a look at the Krita sources, as pointed out by Jussi, and the
problem does not come from the kis_canvas_controller code, but seems to
come from kis_canvas_widget_base.cpp.

There, we have the following code:

void KisCanvasWidgetBase::processTabletEvent(QTabletEvent *e)
{
widget()-setFocus(Qt::OtherFocusReason);
m_d-blockMouseEvent.start(100);

const QPointF pos = e-hiResGlobalPos() - widget()-mapToGlobal(QPoint(0,
0));
m_d-toolProxy-tabletEvent(e,
m_d-coordinatesConverter-widgetToDocument(pos));

// HACK
e-ignore();
m_d-ignorenextMouseEventExceptRightMiddleClick = true;
// HACK
}

My debugging shows that the problem is in the Qt hiResGlobalPos method
from QTabletEvent.

event-pos() seems to give correct results for the QTabletEvent, but
event-hiResGlobalPos() sometimes gives strange results that cause the random
lines.

For exemple, I have the following values from hiResGlobalPos (the x
coordinate):

(...)
453.731
453.682
453.779
12.4536--- weird value
453.633
453.487
(...)

So my guess is that Qt has problem getting the correct values for this
hiResGlobalPos, if anybody with a better inside knowledge of Qt can have
a look...

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-15 Thread j-b-m
Hmm, looks like we are progressing in what the problem is.

As suggested by Jussi, I tried the tablet sample app from qt4-demos, and
I can confirm that pressure works fine.

However in that demo app, when I try to use the tilt value from the
tablet to set line width (in the Tablet menu Line width Tilt), I get
some strange results: a rather constant fine line with sometimes a
random huge rect appearing. Trying to set the color saturation from the
Tilt value doesn't work either. The behavior is the same on my
Touchscreen and on my Intuos 3 usb.

I tested with the unpatched xserver (without the 503 patch), and with
this version, setting line width from the tilt value works fine on my
intuos 3, and the line width stays fine on my touchscreen that maybe
doesn't provide a tilt value, but I never get those random huge rects.

So it looks like the problem introduced (or revealed) by patch 503 may
be with the tilt value, not the pressure...

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-12 Thread j-b-m
I just tested using latest Oneiric xserver-xorg (1.10.4)

If I remove all the latest patches starting from the 503, it works fine
(pressure ok and no jumping lines).
I see no difference if I only apply the struct changes described by Jussi in
comment #32. Pressure and everything still works fine.

But applying the other part of patch 503 (that touches the
dix/getevents.c file) makes the bug described in my original report
appear (random lines)

I tested with 2 different devices:

1 - A Wacom Intuos 3 usb tablet
2- A Lenovo X201T touchscreen

So maybe the pressure issue described by Jussi is another problem
related to his Bamboo?

Pressure works for me on my own recordings. Maybe you need some
calibration or configuration of the Krita brush. I can see a very small
sign of pressure sensitivity on your recording : the beginning of the

[Bug 835634] Re: Touchscreen not working, Lenovo X201t

2011-09-06 Thread j-b-m
Thanks Stephen.

Yes, I confirm that splitting the inputattach udev rule like suggested
in http://bugs.debian.org/632961 (baud rate of 38400 for wacom devices)
AND removing the wacom id from /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-wacom.conf
(see patch below) allows my touchscreen to be correctly recognised.

There is still a small issue with random lines appearing while drawing
with stylus that I have reported as:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202 but I
think it is unrelated (caused by an Ubuntu patch to xserver-xorg-core as
I explained).

Thanks again. Just to make sure, below is my change to the
50-wacom.conf file.

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-06 Thread j-b-m
I attached 3 files, with 2 recordings in case it can help. First one is
with the bug, second one without the bug (patched xserver-xorg-core):

* lenovo X201t props is the result from evemu-describe,
* lenovo X201t record is the result from evemu-record (see #1)
* lenovo X201t patched record is the result from evemu-record (see #2)

#1: This recording is produced with the official xserver-xorg-core and
xf86-input-wacom, using latest Oneiric. In Krita, the stylus gives
either no pressure (When trying to draw on the canvas, the pointer moves
but nothing is drawn), or I get the random lines appearing (when
drawing in Edit brush preview zone) as described in comment #12 by
klerfayt

#2: This recording is produced with same system as #1 but with xserver-
xorg-core recompiled without the 503 and 504 patches (504 conflicts when
503 is not applied) - as described in my previous comment, and the
stylus works correctly.

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-06 Thread j-b-m
I don't know if it is of any interest, but I tried to replay the 2
record files that I just attached to this bug report with evmu-play.

When using the official xserver-xorg-core, nothing is drawn in Krita. I
can see the cursor move but nothing is drawn with both recordings (the
buggy and the correct one).

But when playing them with my patched xserver (without the 503 patch),
both files play fine and I can see the drawings without random lines
with the 2 recordings.

So it seems that the bug will not be seen in these recording, but is in
the way that xorg interprets the recordings...

regards

[Bug 799202] Re: wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-09-05 Thread j-b-m
I investigated a bit and reverting the fix for issue #774938 (1) fixes the
problem and my touch / stylus work correctly.
So the regression is introduced by the following patch

503_fix_masked_transformed_valuators.patch

Using a Lenovo X201T with Wacom touchscreen. Let me know if I can help
in any other way.

[Bug 256767] Re: USB devices work, but constant syslog errors unable to enumerate USB device on port 5

2011-08-25 Thread J B
looks like have to file a new bug?

update on this is that bluetooth actually stopped working on the laptop the
unbind fix was applied on.
so it was not a real fix if i wanted to use bluetooth.

bluetooth works on windows.

other info which might be related:
- for this laptop, bluetooth is also disabled in ubuntu if it was switched off
in windows. this was already discussed in
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8720388postcount=5

anyway,
gave up on it and just mainly use windows on that laptop now after the ubuntu
partition stopped working even after reformat/reinstall. failed most probably
due to overheating issues (separate laptop issue). unable to enumerate error
looks disruptive to the installation as well.

the laptop's days are numbered. unless a hardware fix is applied.
probably later.

2011-06-20 Thread J B
oh yeah workaround in my post on #79 you need to look up your USB
(?port) numbers

ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd
ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd

post on #85 looks cleaner, didn't try it though.

[Bug 762938] Re: Wacom Pressure broken with Qt applications

2011-06-18 Thread j-b-m
I am experiencing the same problem as animitim (stylus input seems to
jump), and I confirm that the issue is related to the latest xserver-
xorg-core.

Reverting to previous version:
apt-get install xserver-xorg-core=2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1

Solves the problem and pressure works fine with the qt version from
utouch ppa (or the one from Scott Kitterman).

So I guess we have to open an issue against xserver-xorg-core...

Ok, I opened a bug report for xserver-xorg-core here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/799202

As you can see in my bug description, the problem only appears with
touch sensitive devices using the utouch-team unstable ppa.

[Bug 799202] [NEW] wacom stylus jumps with latest xserver-xorg-core

2011-06-18 Thread j-b-m
Public bug reported:

Wacom input jumps while drawing with xserver-xorg-core version
2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.1
It is working correctly with version 2:1.10.1-1ubuntu1.

This issue is somehow related to issue #762938 (no pressure sensitivity
with wacom tablet).

A fix for pressure sensitivity was proposed by Chase Douglas in the
utouch-team/unstable ppa.

Using the official ubuntu Qt version, stylus position works fine, but pressure
sensitivity does not work.
When using Chase Douglas's ppa, pressure works fine, but the cursor position
jumps while drawing.

Note that the issue only happens when using the wacom stylus that is
pressure sensitive, not when using the wacom mouse that has no
pressure.

As previously said, the jumping cursor issue disappears if I downgrade
xserver-xorg-core to version 1.10.1-1ubuntu1

The bug can be seen in Krita, when drawing a line, the cursor jumps, a picture
showing the problem can be seen here:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/73690009/Screenshot-unnamed [modified] –
Krita.png

I can reproduce the issue on a tablet pc with touch sensitive screen and
a desktop pc with usb Wacom tablet.

At least 2 other users are having the same issue, see:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pencil/+bug/762938

[Bug 256767] Re: USB devices work, but constant syslog errors unable to enumerate USB device on port 5

2011-05-30 Thread J B
Well looks like nobody's assigned to this bug. Still, it is confirmed.

So a workaround worked:

at first simply unbinding ehci entries worked inconsistently, but also
unbinding ohci entries did the trick.

adding the following to /etc/rc.local worked for me:
#unbind ehci (USB2.0) and ohci (USB1.1)
echo -n :00:02.1 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind
echo -n :00:02.0 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd/unbind
echo -n :00:04.1 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/unbind
echo -n :00:04.0 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd/unbind
# note the 0's and 1's differences in ehci and ohci
# change the numbers according to your entries in ls
/sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd (and again in ohci_hcd)

# bind them back
echo -n :00:02.1 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind
echo -n :00:04.1 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd/bind

# i left these two out, because sometimes rebinding too soon made the error
reoccur:
#echo -n :00:02.0 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd/bind
#echo -n :00:04.0 | tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd/bind
# i just rebind ohci from terminal for the USB mouse.

# at terminal
#echo -n :00:02.0 | sudo tee -a /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ohci_hcd/bind
# sudo needed for binding and unbinding

linux - ubuntu gurus:
is there a way to unbind sooner and then rebind right before the desktop
screen? Kindly provide complete instructions if you can, thanks.

(the error still appears right after SATA scsi Hard drive configuration and
after the usb mouse is detected. Then disappears when the unbinding script
kicks in.
That's why there is a need to unbind sooner, or maybe put off original initial
binding to a later time)
Will probably look into this when i have some more time. put in considerable
hours already into this one.

guess kernel can be modified. But dont know how to do that, yet.

might be a regression.

same issue for me on a HP dv2000.

NEVER ENDING

also on syslog

Ctrl+Alt+F1 tty UNUSABLE and produces the same error message repeatedly
by line.

i remembered i tried the last or one of the last kernel versions (2.6.35.)
for ubuntu 10.10 on an 11.04 upgrade, and these messages didnt appear after
grub boot (removed 'quiet splash' from grub to see)

however there were some errors on starting some default applications.
and a bit of a slow startup.

so now i've updated the bios and did a clean ubuntu reinstall, but to no
avail. faster startup but error message still appears. Trying both the
amd64 standard and alternate installers. I might try the i386 32 bit
one next. but since this is 64 bit capable system with 4gb of mem, the
64 bit one seems the better choice.

aside from error messages things seem to work normally.

this report below might be related: (same error, same nvidia mcp67 controller)
https://lists.linux-foundation.org/pipermail/bugme-new/2010-November/025981.html

also to note that alternate install seems to get some updates from
internet during installation. so am not sure if default install of
ubuntu without internet would produce the error.

also saw this error on a recent Clonezilla on the same computer,
rendering clonezilla unusable. but using an older i386 (or ?686) CD
works without the error.

[Bug 256767] Re: USB devices work, but constant syslog errors unable to enumerate USB device on port 5

2011-05-18 Thread J B
oh also ive tried
1.) the unbind commands mentioned above for ls
/sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd
the devices disappeared from ls /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd, but the error
messages still appear on kern.log.
2.) unplugging the laptop and removing the battery as mentioned in forums, to
no avail.
3.) also tried update-usbids at terminal (error still goes on and on)

others can try these though, in case their error message is caused by
something else

(also upgraded bios to latest from HP site released this year to no
avail)

so next step for me is to install all updates for this amd64
installation, see if fixed.

if not try out the unplugging method again.

then if not try installing the 32 bit ubuntu 11.04 desktop.
