After upgrading to Ubuntu Raring 13.04, when i click on the search icon
in the upper left corner. The entire dialog is multicolored, and

Well I'm still experiencing the problem with the nvidia-glx-180 drivers.
The upstream bug report (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18668)
said something about it maybe being due to the use of animated cursors.
I tried to test this out by installing a cursor theme without animations,
Ubuntu 8.10
2.6.27-9-generic
Xinerama 4-screens
Installed nvidia-glx-180
glx is enabled
With the upgrade of the video card drivers the freezing hasn't happened
yet and the performance problems I was experiencing are mostly gone.
I'll let you know if I experience to freezing again.

Haha, I found this workaround independently too. Sometimes random frustrated
key-commands actually work.
Thanks for posting it with such good instructions, I was going to do some more
testing, but now I don't have to.
I can confirm the above workaround absolutely.

This happens because GDM is started before Hal. They fixed it for KDM by
making it 99th. So, I just did the same with GDM.
This is the how:
sudo update-rc.d -f gdm remove
sudo update-rc.d gdm defaults 99 01

I have both KDM and GDM installed. GDM is the default.
Ctrl-Alt-F1 does not work and gives me a blinking cursor.
If I restart GDM through ssh then it works. It seems like GDM is started
before hal or dbus.

I don't understand why this status is incomplete.
Anyway, performance degrades when using Opera with some javascript too. i.e.
grandcentral.com.
Firefox and Opera both exhibit the behavior, just on different sites. I
really think this is a driver thing.

I can confirm this happens to me with 8.04.1 and Firefox 3.0.3.
I am not running desktop effects, but I am running Xinerama with (4) monitors.
I am using the Envy manager for my nVidia 8800GT card.

From much mucking about, I have decided that to fully reproduce this bug
requires the below.
Ubuntu 8.04.1 2.6.24-21 64-bit
nvidia-glx-new 169.12
With Xinerama enabled in xorg.conf.
All programs run sluggish including:
Firefox Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3)
The solution seems to be:
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2
Then install and use Opera.

I also have this problem with an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
4000+, an ASUS M3A32-MVP DELUXE AM2+ RT, and Hardy Heron.
However I haven't yet tried disabling speedstep in the BIOS.

apt-get build-dep bind9
apt-get libmysqlclient15-dev, needed for mysql headers and libraries for the
dlz-mysql driver.
